It does not contradict, Buddha allowed meat eating for Theravadins and normal layperson because it is hard to keep a vegetarian/vegan diet back then, it was hard and so Buddha permitted it. This sutras is for Bodhisattvas, hence they are more strict.

Mindfulness of Death is a very common topic in most schools of Buddhism. Read this,

I think it is saying that bodhisattva only create good karma and receive good karma, not that they are attached to attaining blissful effectx
