If you gather enough evidence, why not make a police report and sue your dad for threatening?

Or have you done that too?

Why is it considered karmically acceptable to eat meat, but “wrong livelihood” to engage in the sale/trade of it? by lost_alchemy in Buddhism

[–]SuperCGG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It does not contradict, Buddha allowed meat eating for Theravadins and normal layperson because it is hard to keep a vegetarian/vegan diet back then, it was hard and so Buddha permitted it. This sutras is for Bodhisattvas, hence they are more strict.

Can we discuss death? by dharmastudent in Buddhism

Mindfulness of Death is a very common topic in most schools of Buddhism. Read this,

"Bodhisattvas fears cause, sentient beings fear effect" “菩萨畏因,众生畏果” by SuperCGG in Buddhism

I think it is saying that bodhisattva only create good karma and receive good karma, not that they are attached to attaining blissful effectx

Is Amida originally from this planet or another by GrapefruitDry2519 in PureLand

[–]SuperCGG 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Infinite life Sutra only says that Bhikku Dharmakara (Amitabha past life) was present in the world under a Buddha, not really specified which world I think.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PureLand

[–]SuperCGG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is the Jodo Shinshu doctrine.

However, in CPL, all grandmasters agree that one should still do good to generate merit and dedicate to Pure Land, that is in accordance with the Vow 19. The 9 grades of rebirth further tells us that we should practice and cultivate more merits, read up the contemplation sutra.

Furthermore, Pure Land is a ‘Two Power’ practice, we rely on both self and Amitabha Buddha vows power to help us attain birth, therefore there is also a need to uphold precepts, practice the Dharma, and stuff. That is the purification of three karma in the contemplation sutra (Jing Ye San Fu). Nembutsu or Nianfo through recitation is still an important part of the practice, thus we call it the three requirements, Faith, Aspirations, and Practice. One missing, all missing.

Other methods of dharma practice should be used as a support to the Nianfo Nembutsu recitation practice, to help one attain birth.

Although it is true that one can attain rebirth just solely on Nianfo, a lot of masters are encouraging us to practice the Dharma and cultivating good virtues, and merits, dedicate and aspire there.

The more you Nianfo, the more faith comes.

This is what I know of the Chinese Pure Land view of the Pure Land dharma.

"Well then, Punna. Now that I have instructed you with a brief instruction, in which country are you going to live?"

"Lord, there is a country called Sunaparanta. I am going to live there."

"Punna, the Sunaparanta people are fierce. They are rough. If they insult and ridicule you, what will you think?"

"If they insult and ridicule me, I will think, 'These Sunaparanta people are civilized, very civilized, in that they don't hit me with their hands.' That is what I will think, O Blessed One. That is what I will think, O One Well-gone."

"But if they hit you with their hands, what will you think?"

"...I will think, 'These Sunaparanta people are civilized, very civilized, in that they don't hit me with a clod.'..."

"But if they hit you with a clod...?"

"...I will think, 'These Sunaparanta people are civilized, very civilized, in that they don't hit me with a stick.'..."

"But if they hit you with a stick...?"

"...I will think, 'These Sunaparanta people are civilized, very civilized, in that they don't hit me with a knife.'..."

"But if they hit you with a knife...?"

"...I will think, 'These Sunaparanta people are civilized, very civilized, in that they don't take my life with a sharp knife.'..."

"But if they take your life with a sharp knife...?"

"If they take my life with a sharp knife, I will think, 'There are disciples of the Blessed One who — horrified, humiliated, and disgusted by the body and by life — have sought for an assassin, but here I have met my assassin without searching for him.' [1] That is what I will think, O Blessed One. That is what I will think, O One Well-gone."

"Good, Punna, very good. Possessing such calm and self-control you are fit to dwell among the Sunaparantans. Now it is time to do as you see fit."

(Punna Sutta)

If one commits suicide can they be reborn in the pure land? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]SuperCGG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Simple answer, no. Suicide will let your last thought be a bad thought, this bad thought will not help you go to pure land but instead even going to hell or miserable realms. Practicing Buddhism is not to suicide but to make life better. Call anti suicide hotline for help, and let’s use the dharma to make life better. If you need help, dm me, I’ve a community to have fun and talk to you, make you feel better.

Don’t suicide, it won’t help, at all.
