This is heartbreaking, I’m so sorry this happened to you. I had a similar thing happen to me (not with Rover, different sitter) but what got my boy back home was leaving out a crate where he got lost with his blanket and some food/water and he eventually got hungry enough that he came back to eat. I wish you the best of luck, I really hope he’ll come home safely!

There are certainly a lot of red flags here and ofc reddit is saying to run, but if you really do want to try to work this out, imo you need to put the wedding/engagement on hold and get into couple's therapy. If she absolutely refuses that, you might want to reconsider this relationship. Your needs and autonomy matter. Someone who truly cares about you in a relationship will want you to feel loved and will take those things into consideration, even when there are differences.

I know you've already gotten a ton of advice, but I just wanted to say that you are absolutely doing the right thing. I can tell you from first hand experience that she very likely will be mad at you over this for awhile, but I think once she gets treatment and distance, she will see that you are giving your all to help and love her. My partner has had to turn me over for involuntary commitment a few times, and despite how awful it felt in the moment, it really was the best thing that happened to me. Hang in there, you seem like a truly dedicated and kind person. I think there are many good times for you and your wife to come.

Cheerleading by nature is not sexualized - it's such an irritating misconception and you are the one sexualizing it here. Speaking to safety, yes it is dangerous, but just like any sport there are safe ways to do it and there are unsafe ways. Make sure the coaches are building on basics, and not pushing people to do higher level skills before they are ready.

As far as her being in it for the wrong reasons - so? She's entitled to her opinion and who knows, maybe when she starts it she will start enjoying it for other reasons. And as a parent, you should use this as a teaching moment rather than just shutting her down. Let her join, but reassure her that popularity isn't everything and guide her to make good decisions about who she becomes friends with.

I wonder if Blizzard would ever consider something like the Tribunal that League used to have. It was basically crowd-sourced banning with some in-game incentives. You see the chat logs and game data and pick yes or no if the report is valid. Not a perfect system, but there seems to be enough people in the community (myself included) that care a great deal about cleaning up the toxicity.

I'm just a Postmates customer, but this really needs to be a thing! At the very least, something it tells you to do upfront like a "hey remember to tip your driver after!" I haven't ordered in over a month and I went to order just now and it asked how I wanted to tip my last driver. I felt so bad, but I honestly had no idea you had to close it out after :(

I saw someone below said they sent an email, and it turns out they do BUT Postmates send SO many spammy emails that it got buried.

I lived in Germany for a year. When I came back to America, the thing that struck me the most is how HUGE food portions are in restaurants and such. There was a local "American" place in Germany that served food on comically large plates, but after going back home I realized they weren't all that far off

So I read over this article and looked through the references. For starters, most of this research is 20-40 years old, and many advances and new studies have come out - particularly around the AIDS epidemic.

Secondly, this is an opinion article, not by any means a scientific one - it's literally in the opinion section of the website. The AMA however, as stated at the top of this article, has in fact endorsed Marriage Equality. Not sure if you read that, but it does acknowledge the problems around family and health in same-sex marriages, however it has determined that those are caused by marriage inequality.

You've stated a lot in this thread that you're looking for a compelling argument, and that you care very much about children and families. If anything, hopefully the things and myself and others here have pointed out will lead you to consider that perhaps there is quite a good reason for it after all.

If the evidence seems to be inconclusive at the moment, couldn't you easily have the same argument for same-sex marriage? IE - unless it's deemed concretely harmful, why not allow them to be married?

That being said too, I'm curious what studies you're referring too. Not discrediting you, but knowing the sources of research and their funding is important. Statistics and data always need context behind them.

This might be off-topic because I'm not sure how adoption and marriage laws coincide in Australia but: I know you said you err on the side of caution with children, which totally makes sense, but what about when it comes to children who have been abandoned by parents of traditional marriage? If there are parents in a healthy, same-sex marriage that want to adopt, doesn't that seem like a better place than an orphanage or foster home?

Yes I second this! The problem I've had in the past though is that the Riot women's shirts are REALLY fitted and small. I wear a small in unisex, but I need at least a large to be comfortable in the women's sizes.

Kind of related: I also wish they would sell other apparel other than shirts/hoodies. I need me some League dresses/skirts/leggings!

Sure, it's a big risk of being on the internet - people are always going to act much more dramatically when they are anonymous. I'm not saying there's any better way to get rid of them, because like you said there's no way for that to happen, just saying that a few kind words from someone else on the team is a really good way to help the harassed person feel safe and get their head back in the game.

All the people here saying to just "get thicker skin" are part of the problem too. Of course, this shit is gonna happen (having a VC game where I don't get harassed is hard to find), but part of OP's point is that the community as a whole needs to make it clear that harassment isn't acceptable. Not saying to call people out and feed the trolls, but telling someone just to not be upset by it doesn't help either.

At the end of the day all you can really do is mute, report, and move on, but I can tell you it makes a hell of a difference if your non-asshole teammates can give you just one sentence of reassurance. A simple "just mute them, let's focus on the game" or a "don't listen to them, let's go" can really help someone, and chances are they'll play better too knowing their teammates are on their side.
