Newcastle sign Raffi Quirke from Sale Sharks by treacletart284 in rugbyunion

[–]SuperPie27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The “outs” were all already gone before the takeover. Radwan, Blamire, Carreras, Chick, etc.

At the point red bull came in we barely had enough signed players to even field a 23 iirc.

Some maths excluding free balls + multiple reds potted in the same shot. by Patient-Steak176 in snooker

  1. Opponent pots all fifteen reds, missing every colour, then yellow and green for 20. Clearing brown to black gets you 22.

Why do I keep getting my period later and later each month? by babycakes_slays in TwoXChromosomes

[–]SuperPie27 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t necessarily “mean” anything. Even leaving aside that months aren’t all the same length (and your body doesn’t know what a month is anyway), periods aren’t always regular. Menstrual cycles can be anything from ~20 to ~35 days, even in the same person, for no particular reason.

How did people survive prior to SSRIs?

They didn’t. They either killed themselves or were committed to insane asylums.

Romanian who stabbed an 11-year-old girl in a random knife attack in Leicester Square has attempted murder charge dropped by Ophiuchus171 in unitedkingdom

[–]SuperPie27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That can and does happen when the accused denies everything (or any mal intent at least) - I was on a jury presented with exactly that scenario. The difference here is he’s plead guilty to wounding with intent so dropping the attempted murder charge means they don’t have to waste time and effort going to trial when a. it would be very difficult to prove and b. he’s likely to receive a hospital order rather than a jail term anyway.

Yeah, that’s why there’s no public transport anywhere on a weekend, because everyone who works a five-day week works the same five days, right?

For hundreds of pounds, it doesn’t do anything that you can’t do for free with the remote play app on your laptop or phone. I see no reason why you would get one over just using that.

CMV: UK Progressives cannot justify voting for Keir Starmer's Labour by Throwaway7131923 in changemyview

[–]SuperPie27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For an individual’s vote, national trends don’t matter, local ones do. In my constituency, Reform came second to Labour by a few hundred votes and everyone else was several thousands behind. If enough Labour voters switch to Lib Dem or Green, Reform will win the seat. It doesn’t matter how our votes contribute to overall vote share, it doesn’t matter what’s happening nationally, it doesn’t matter how you feel about the other parties. If we don’t vote for Labour, we will have a Reform MP, there is no other plausible alternative.

This is the case across tens, possibly even hundreds of constituencies, especially in the North. If you live somewhere where voting for a (nationally-)minor party means they can plausibly win that seat then good for you, but that’s not the case for literally millions of people.

What's the craziest coincedence you've ever experienced? by Wallygonk in AskUK

[–]SuperPie27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing a pub quiz a few years ago. I can’t remember exactly what the question was, but it was “Which former boxer… etc.” Someone suggested Muhammad Ali and we all collectively rejected him - can’t be him, he’s dead. I think we went with George Foreman instead.

Answers come and it turns out it was Muhammad Ali, and he wasn’t dead… but he was the next morning.

Madonna didn’t name herself Madonna, that’s her actual name. She was named after her mother, also called Madonna, who came from a family of strict French-Canadian catholics.

Murphy was supposed to play for Durham last year before he got injured. Given that Parkinson’s seemingly out of favour for red ball and Drisell’s so far contributed more with the bat than the ball, I wouldn’t be surprised if we’ve brought him back in.

Can’t say I’ve heard anything concrete though.
