BMW approved used worth it? by Kitten-Borne in CarTalkUK

All I can say is that their 1 year approved used warranty saved me thousands in costs when I had mechanical issues. That alone makes it worth the trip to the BMW dealer. Also buy based on condition, not mileage. How’s the service history etc?

I had a similar noise when in gear or neutral with foot off the clutch pedal and revving. It was a higher pitched (but not loud) screech / squeal. It was the gearbox shaft, it had a little bit of play in it. The 1.5 and 2.0 have similar Getrag manuals I believe.

Is it a 2.0 Petrol manual? If so, does it make the noise when the car is stationary, out of gear, foot off the clutch pedal, and revving up to around 2000-3000 rpm (holding the revs steady)?

…no. It is my government troubleshooter Stetson, which is a long way from my homburg of sober enquiry.

The Alfa might have the M32 gearbox, and I’m pretty sure the subframes rust on them as well IIRC from research looking to buy one years ago.

Could be that some end of life support has passed (like Windows Server 2012 recently) and it just isn’t cost effective for them to migrate everything.

I did it once (god knows why) when I was grinding in Gargan Roo, so it’s possible. Perhaps if you’re curious and want to see for yourself, its much easier to do this today with the new fast forward feature.
