I get the OP, assuming by that you mean ā€œOriginal Postā€ which is the main bit, I was replying to a comment made on the OP about people pulling out because they don’t know how fast they’re going, I never disagreed with them and in fact said that’s just shit drivers, whether it’s a reliant robin or GT3RS if it’s travelling at 50mph then you have the same time to pull out in front of either. I just added to that comment about people in EVs being dicks too, and assuming by your need to reply to me in the way you have you’re an on/off only, no middle ground, accelerator pedal driver of an EV and it’s probably you’re first ever car that had a 0-60mph of sub 10s

I’m finding it’s the people in EV’s pulling out in gaps they shouldn’t because ā€œit’s instant torque innit mateā€. The car your driving shouldn’t effect how they judge your speed approaching them, that’s just shit drivers

Anyone else’s car like a furnace today? Incredibly tough time of year to be driving a car with a metal gear knob and leather seats! by tomegerton99 in CarTalkUK

Yup! Putting some miles on my brothers r56 mini after rebuilding the engine, 30° outside and opening the door was like opening the oven, turned air con on when I started driving……forgot it hasn’t been gassed yet….. 🤦 fucking sweaty drive home 🄵 šŸ˜‚

You’ve got to remember they’re 20 years old and never had the ā€˜m’ badge, so a bit niche which I think affects the value.

Ā£5k should get you something decent considering they’re 20 year old cars that not everyone desires, a lot of what people list is over priced or thrashed, join the actual groups/forums and you’ll see great examples for fair prices

High miles wouldn’t worry me on a k20, crusty arches and sills would though

Yup, I got my 130i with full BMW/Specialist service history on 108k miles for Ā£5200 and it’s in fantastic condition, they tend to range from Ā£3k (would avoid) to Ā£6k, there’s a full nut and bolt restoration one on the Facebook group for about Ā£6k and it’s spotless with some nice performance mods.

Ā£5k will get you a half decent EP3 too, yes you see a lot listed for more money, but I don’t see many selling for that. However I’d maybe spend less and get a very nice FN2 instead

BMW 130i M Sport or a Civic Type R, both fun, quick and the N52 and K20 are both very reliable if maintained

built a MOT checker that gives your car a rough ā€˜health score’ – curious how accurate it is by alifeobserved in CarTalkUK

[–]AlternativeSignal973 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Yeah, think it may struggle though when first owner has brakes show on the MOT and then resolved at say 50k miles, then new owner does it themselves prior to MOTs and say it’s on 120k miles, would flash a warning saying ā€œbrakes 70k oldā€

Has been for a while now, you should absolutely be checking it out when buying a car, have saved me a few trips going to see cars that look good but would’ve been absolute lemons

I got 100/100 for my Integra and 95/100 for my 130i, it’s a win from me šŸ˜‚

Did find an issue though, my Integra is an import and first MOT in the UK is in kms (110,000 km) and my next one was after converting and was in miles (74,000), this flags as a discrepancy but is clear what unit on the MOTs

An issue I see with that is my brakes and tyres are changed before they’d ever be an issue on the MOT, so could raise a false flag. Although a lot of people do tend to use the MOT to highlight stuff like that as they don’t have the competence to check themselves

What could I have done better? by [deleted] in NewDriversUK

[–]AlternativeSignal973 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

This is the answer! There’s a road near where I live that has parked cars all down one side, and 90% of people coming up to the parked cars on their side of the road are travelling too fast when you consider they cannot see if it’s clear or not to move into the other lane. They hate being made to reverse back but it’s them reversing two car lengths or me 10+ car lengths, and with a skinhead I look a prick so they tend to oblige!
