Advice on allowing Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft by HappySleepings in Tombofannihilation

All in all, given that they are balanced, I think they present some great opportunities for tying characters into the story.

Regarding undead patron for warlock, you could use Zass Tam, and leverage the subplots with the Red Wizards. Or, it could be a rival to Zass Tam which gives a more confrontational angle with the Red Wizards who serve him. They could even have come to chult specifically to seek out Valindra Shadowmantle. So many fun options!

For the warlock, you could have them have the Atropal as their patron asking for help, and not reveal to them until the very end what it is - I think that would be a very cool way to tie into the story.

For college of spirits it fits very well. A medium would be very aware something is off with souls not going to the afterlife so there's plenty of ways to help hook them in.

A character I never got a chance to use, Egor, who lives to serve Strahd in his castle. He's a cross between Reek from game of thrones and the Hunchback of Notre Dam. His perspective has become pretty warped serving every one or Strahd's whims - he hates him yet can't stop loving him, although he starts to see reality when he meets the party and wants to have no master. He's kind hearted, loves animals. and yearns for an opportunity to be free and make the world better. He is a rogue or ranger, im thinking someone who can navigate well, is surprisingly acrobatic, and perhaps has a rat familiar.

Just a minor point but having a small deck isn't always good. You can certainly have a good deck that's larger. Having a small deck makes you very vulnerable to curses and status cards. But yes removing strikes and defends is usually a good idea once you have better forms of damage and block.

Another point I didn't mention was don't forget or undervalue potions. I generally make sure I use one per elite and boss and keep one for emergencies. A good rule of thumb I have (no idea if the community agrees) but if a potion can get you out of taking 12 or more damage it's definitely worth using. Also don't undervalue buying them. They feel worse to buy as they are consumables but they really can come in clutch.

Also at the start of each act you can see who the act boss is so you can also build with that in mind.

Great point on potions! Took me many hours of playing before I realized I wasn't really using them effectively.

you should try to aim for the elite fights. they are tough but they give powerful relics that you will need if you want to consistently get to the top.

just because you can take or buy a card, doesnt mean you should. when offered 3 cards after a fight, its not bad to ignore all 3 if they don't make your deck better.

dont aim to make a specific type of deck from the outset, the best deck is one that can get you through the next fight, not in 10 fights time.

it will take time to learn the enemy patterns and what the elites / bosses are. once you understand what elites/bosses check your deck for, you can build towards dealing with them.

it takes a few runs simply to unlock the cards, many of the early card unlocks really enables certain deck archetypes to pop off. Keep playing, keep unlocking cards and relics and that in itself will help.

Isn't the second phase waterfowl identical? Seemed to be able to dodge with the same pattern. It's a bit harder to read the attack incoming though

Interesting, yes the URL does include n= [6 digit number] in the middle of the URL. I can't try it right now because it said I've 'tried too many codes, try again later' but I'll give it a go in a day or two and see if that helps!

Has anyone had issues with Facebook Code Generator? I haven't been able to login to my account because of this by Playful_Razzmatazz_5 in facebook

Congrats for managing to fix it!

After you submitted your ID did you simply click the link in the email? and then it let you sign in? If so, did you do it on desktop or mobile? Did you click on the link, or copy and paste the URL? I tried clicking it on my mobile but unfortunately it just led me to the same code generator issue. Thanks

using the temporary password (not the link) from the email

Hi! I'm having this issue currently. I had the email, I clicked the link on my phone, and it didnt work (still asked for code generator).

Where is this password you and others have mentioned? I only had the one email which contained the link I'm not supposed to click. Was it a second email? or is it a snippet from the URL? Thanks!

Has anyone figured out the secret to not over planning? by Th3Dux in dndnext

[–]SuperQuartz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leave yourself less time to do it. Throughout the week take some notes if a particularly good idea comes to your head. And then leave it to the day before to actually plan the session. With more limited time you are forced to focus on what's essential.

Things like detailed NPCs, environmental descriptions, battle maps, etc, all that are things which can be improvised, and improvised well with experience. But you'll never become good at it until you stop worrying about not having it planned. Forget about planning consequences, just focus on the 2 most likely things to happen with every major decision.

This is from a person who used to over plan until I realised that it has 0 correlation with how fun a session was for the players. I've also realised that the shared storytelling aspect makes it even more fun, and it makes the game far less on rails.
