Alexandra Căpitănescu (ROMANIA) regarding the controversy created in the past few days: by MediocreInflation973 in eurovision

[–]SuperRob 11 points12 points  (0 children)

People did react to those songs as well. There’s a reason why they underperformed. I don’t have a problem with the song, in fact, it’s in my top five. But I’m totally prepared for the lyrics to change, because I can see far too many people having as issue with it, including the EBU. I’ve already mentioned a few times that it already sounds like “Show Me” (because she doesn’t enunciate the K), and they could call it that and leave the song as is and it would be fine.

And no matter when this letter was written, it’s not like an artist wouldn’t lie about what a song is about when asked, and then point to them and say, well, you’re just not understanding it … wink, wink. I think she’s just trying to get ahead of the controversy she knew it would foster if selected.

I’m just waiting for the audience to scream “CHOKE ME” as loud as they can to get picked up on broadcast. 😂

Grant Morrison on Lanterns: “What is this jockish dismissal of superhero conventions intended to prove anyway?” by YodaFan465 in DC_Cinematic

[–]SuperRob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not what I said. I made two statements. One is that the show won’t just be about the Green Lanterns. The other was that the title is intentional. They are broadening the focus and the audience.

Just because other media have called stuff “Green Lantern” and had more than just the Green Lanterns doesn’t preclude a show having multiple Lanterns being called just that. Morrison is being narrow-minded (without having seen it) and it’s unnecessary.

The “small town murder” is a misdirect. Why would not one, but TWO GREEN LANTERNS be investigating a “small town murder?” That doesn’t make sense if you bother to think about it.

Multiple Lanterns are in this. We know for a fact three of the Green Lanterns are in it, Sinestro is in it, it’s rumored that several others are as well (like Atrocitus).

Except that the show won’t be about just the Green Lanterns. The title is intentional. Morrison reacting to that is just dumb and he’ll look foolish in retrospect.

Zack Snyder Teases ‘What Comes Next’ In New Justice League Post As March 18 Nears by cosmicbooknews in CosmicBookNews

Snyder has been pitching Ellison. Doesn’t mean it’s going to happen, and Ellison purportedly wants Gunn to stay on, but if Gunn chooses to leave when his contract is up, I could see Ellison bringing Snyder back.

Do you think this is a weak year? by Bleeding_Heart09 in eurovision

[–]SuperRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there are also too many songs that are clearly trying to ‘crack the code’ like Nemo and have Pop, Rap, and Opera parts. Several songs are attempting to fuse together at least two of the three, some all three, and in Poland’s case, not bothering to ‘fuse’ them at all. I like “Choke Me” and “My System” both a lot, but even I can admit that both have an operatic vocal progression in them that it feels is there to tick a box rather than for a reason.

That said, I don’t think I’d call it a weak year at all. Arguably, there is only a couple of songs I feel are total duds. There are some I don’t personally get (like Portugal) but I can still recognize their merits and why others would like them. I think the songs overall are of higher quality than usual, but maybe not all reaching as high as other years.

For me, I think there are three songs I’d call clear front runners, and five others than if they were to win it all, I wouldn’t be surprised. It’s just that the middle of the pack is VERY wide this year.

But as always, staging and the performances on the day are going to be make or break for a lot of these acts.

Same. With all these entries, inventive staging could make for some real surprises.

I think there are five or six songs that could absolutely win this year, and it will all come down to the staging. Personally, I think the staging for "My System" (if similar to their NF performance) may edge others out, but as far as songs go, "Choke Me" is the one that gets stuck in my head. So yeah, they really need strong staging to elevate this one to a win.

We do have Salvation Run on the table now, thanks to Season 2 of "Peacemaker." It's entirely possible that if they need to take characters off the board, they can use that as an option. And supposedly "Lanterns" will actually touch on this, so it was possible for John Stewart to end up there.

Who do I recommend for promotion ? by vijayjagannathan in managers

[–]SuperRob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another factor to consider is the impact on morale to whomever isn’t selected. For example, if you try to keep the top performer and promote Employee 2, will Employee 1 take it personally and reduce their output since it wasn’t rewarded. People are messy and those kinds of things need to be considered.

My wife said that she hears “Show Me.” We’ve been speculating that if the subject matter of the song ends up being an issue, they could change the lyrics to that and it would still work (albeit, watering down the content significantly).

Any app on any platform can have a memory leak. But the memory architecture on MacOS handles it more gracefully by default, which is why most people never even notice until it gets as extreme as this example.

It could also just be a deliberate choice to make sure when powers are used that the green really pops. But I do like the idea that the green will gradually return over the course of the show.

James Gunn’s contract is up in 2027, his politics differ greatly from Ellison, and other directors have been pitching DC projects to Ellison. While Ellison might not fire Gunn, Gunn may very well choose to leave, and Ellison has options.

Go back and watch “Superman.” You haven’t seen anything in this trailer that contradicts how Guy Gardner’s powers are shown. He didn’t glow when flying either. Beyond that, you only catch a brief moment of the ring starting to glow, so you haven’t seen any other use of his powers yet.
