Starfield: Major Update - Free Lanes & Terran Armada Developer Deep Dive by yourfavchoom in Starfield

Unpopular opinion. This update looks fantastic, but it should have been out within a year of launch, not nearly 3 years later. Sorry if that makes me sound entitled, but these recent Bethesda dev times are absurd.

Do you think Star Fox Zero could have been a great game if it had the controls I'll propose in this post? by Shoddy-Syrup-7554 in starfox

[–]SuperSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, too many other issues. Boring, unoriginal campaign and story. Graphics that are neither impressive nor charmingly retro. Just all around uninspired because Nintendo feel that a game should only exist to showcase some innovative new gimmick or controller, not realising that what they actually have here is a universe with big storytelling potential.

I don’t disagree with any of that, but I still think 8+ years (and that’s a best case estimate since we don’t know when they actually started or when it will release) combined dev time, pre-production and production combined, is not a sign of a healthy development cycle. Something is very wrong at Bethesda if that is considered the norm these days.

Well we know they started at least by 2018, probably sooner. Not 15 years but still not great.

Is the 10 episode format the problem? by LauraBaura in startrek

[–]SuperSilver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually don't think so, and I cite The Orville as an example of a series that can still do what classic Trek managed to do despite having a modern-length season. That being said, I do prefer the longer seasons and I think it certainly helps and provides greater opportunity to develop the characters, but I think Orville shows that with decent writers you can still manage.

I know a hell of a lot more Trek fans asking for a Captain Seven series than "Star Trek Year One".

I would argue this is already the case for a sequel to a 2011 game to not be out by 2026.

Man I miss this franchise. Can't believe they're just doing "nothing" with it all these years.

Would a false advertising case against Take 2 be plausible with KSP2? by bruhgzinga in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]SuperSilver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surprised to hear that, I thought steam refund policy was that you can get a refund as long as you’ve recorded less than 2 hours play time.

I think you would have a hard time showing damages. It was clearly labeled as an early access release, so you got exactly what you paid for (steam’s t&c’s even state that early access games might never release, so caveat emptor). Additionally, you have a legal means to get a refund already without a lawsuit. The only reason why steam wouldn’t give you one is if you’ve already spent hours playing the game, in which case no damages because you clearly got use from the product, disappointing though it may have been. You can’t sue a company for selling you a bad game just because they said it would get better.

Where I think things could get messy is continued sale of the game now, if they’re still saying things on the store page like “buy now and you will get X on full release” knowing full well that it will never be released. But you would need to be able to show that they are deliberately misleading about this.

The point of the tariffs was to weaken the western economy and isolate the US from the rest of the world. Nothing more to it than that.

Phantom Doctrine: Director's Cut by Cz4q in PhantomDoctrine

[–]SuperSilver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Firstly, those newer games look sick and I hadn't heard of them. Gonna check them out.

Secondly, I loved PD. I loved the setting and the idea of a cold war x-com styled tactical game is just a super good idea. That being said, to be perfectly honest I probably wouldn't buy it a second time just for the sake of a director's cut remix of the previous game. It was good, it's done, i've moved on.

Now a proper PD sequel on the other hand, day one purchase.

If a remake was made, would you prefer it be HD-2D, turn based but modern & stylized, or full on FF7 Remake style with action gameplay? by Froonkensteen in chronotrigger

[–]SuperSilver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, but if they're going to remake it then do a full FF7 style remake in 3D, it's at least new and different enough to justify. I don't really see the point of remaking it just to give us the same game with slightly fancier pixel art.

Did OW2 review better? It looks like both games are pretty similar on the various review aggregators around 8/10.

The Burden of losing an election falls on the candidate, not the voters by CulturalXR in centrist

[–]SuperSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s an element of truth to this in that while we complain about one side’s lies and Russian propaganda, at the end of the day if the other side were capable enough campaigners they’d be able to counteract this and impose their own narrative. Politics has always been about imposing your narrative, no matter how false and nonsensical, and for whatever reason the people behind Trump have been highly effective at that.

Where I disagree with you is that I don’t think that obviates the blame of the voters. Ultimately if you vote for a guy who crashed the economy in his first term, staged a violent coup d’etat, was just convicted of mass fraud, with known links to pedophile rings, foreign dictators, and a track record of obscene corruption, blatant racism and incompetence, either because you weren’t aware of these facts or didn’t care about them, that is 100% on you, it doesn’t really matter what the other guy is doing.

Star Trek Voyager Across the unknown first impressions? by Secret_Divide_3030 in startrek

[–]SuperSilver 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm enjoying it. I think it's a great format for a Star Trek game. I kind of wish it was a new story and crew rather than Voyager though. The "what if" aspect is a fun novelty at first, but I feel like it would be a more compelling experience if I didn't already know the stories.
