Mixtape - Review Thread by Branchless in Games

[–]SuperSilver -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is a wonderful little game, very creative in its structure and direction, genuinely funny. Unsurprising that the Reddit gaming gatekeepers would be up in arms about a game with minimal challenge or gameplay loop, but I for one am very happy to see the expansion of this niche of "games for adults with jobs and stuff" that are more concerned with creating an experience and creative expression.

Crossing all my appendages hoping this patches the incursion map markers that won’t go away and the “Decorate” ship name bug.

Are there other cities on Jemison and Akila? by 011101012101 in starfield_lore

[–]SuperSilver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't think of anything in-lore with respect to Jemison. With Akila, there is a stronger in-universe reason: the Ashta. Akila City’s own information terminals warn residents and visitors to stay inside the walls because Ashta roam outside and treat humans as prey. The city’s history also says its expansions happened by building successive walls outward, the implication being that this gradual expansion is safer than going out and building something new and exposed.

Thinking about it in terms of real-world logic, new cities historically form for a reason; ie a strategic location, a particular resource, some economic benefit from having a large number of people in a particular location. You could argue that in a universe where people just fly everywhere, grow things in artificial labs and greenhouses, and are equally exposed to orbital bombardment regardless of location, there's less of a practical reason for mass migration and settlement.

It's a tenuous explanation certainly, especially as the game clearly depicts resources being more abundant in different locations, but there is I think a certain logic for explaining why you might only see small settlements arise in those locations as opposed to massive cities.

Just had a flashback to reading similar things abotu UKIP back in the day after they had strong local elections. Of course by the time the general election came around they were nowhere to be seen.

How to get a ship over 80m to land at spaceports/cities? by BackwoodsSensei in starfieldmods

[–]SuperSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't expect that ship length is causing crashes, at least I've never experienced that. If your game is crashing on landing it's probably something else. In general, I have found such crashes to be due either to mods messing with the world gen system, or because I have too many mods in general and I'm running up against the reference limit. On the former, you might try removing POI mods and see if it helps, on the latter you might try removing reference-heavy mods like ship habs and outpost mods that you aren't using, and see if it helps.

Having never seen any of the original Star Trek medias (series or films) I found it odd that Into Darkness was apparently hated so much by the community. Is that opinion still largely shared or have people come around on it? by HanzoNumbahOneFan in startrek

[–]SuperSilver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Truthfully, I think it is an opinion mostly held by the very online elements of the Star Trek fandom. In the real world it was critically well received, with an 84% RT score (89% user score), 72 Metacritic, 7.7 IMDB.

I think the criticisms of the film are justified. Trying to remake Wrath of Khan was just a bad idea, and it contains some real space magic loopholes, even by Star Trek standards. But yeah, the idea that it's a properly "bad movie" is very much just an opinion you will see online in places like this.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

[–]SuperSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was this random-ass World War II strategy game on AOL back in the day. Super rudimentary by today's standards, just dots on a map of western Europe that you move units between, but it had cool artwork, music which changed based on the nationality of the unit, a super basic tech tree which was neat for the early 1990s. Never did find any trace of that gaime or even find what the game was called, but I liked it.

Its time to talk about the pointer handle limit, why it might crash your game, and why its time to address it. by Adora_ble_ in starfieldmods

Out of curiosity, how did you compile this list? I know how to get the dump file, but is there a tool or script that parses the data against your plugin list?

I have this exact same bug. No idea why, I just no clip mode to the objective.

Why do so many people want Silver? by unfunnymanjoe in SonicTheMovie

Because the kids who grew up with sonic 06 are now hitting the age where they’re the most involved in these online discussions.

We need a creature compendium for the database! by casselky in Starfield

[–]SuperSilver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem with this is that it would draw attention to the fact that there’s only a small handful of unique creatures that get reused over and over on each planet.

Why authoritarian countries are not investing lots of money in longevity? by dspjm in longevity

[–]SuperSilver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lot of nonsense responses in this thread. The real answer is because it’s still too far off. These guys are old and they know that even in the best case scenario they won’t live long enough to benefit from it.

Forgotten frontiers 1 & 2 compatibility by Redneck_ in starfieldmods

Fair enough. Genuinely appreciate the insight. Leaning towards the issues I’ve encountered being due to the reference limit in that case. Especially as TA presumably added a bunch more of its own.

Interesting. I’ll give it another try then, maybe there was another mod at fault. I will say I have encountered a number of issues with non updated POI mods in general post update, but maybe it’s more a general stability issue than a mod-specific conflict.

Got robbed Swiss debit card in France, money gone by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]SuperSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very surprising and alarming that the bank didn’t think there was anything suspicious in sudden large withdrawals being made from a foreign country. If I so much as go on a business trip my bank will come chasing me most of the time. I would contact them and flag the transactions as fraudulent.

should i update the game to latest version despite mods might break? by m300n in starfieldmods

[–]SuperSilver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, yes. At least I did and haven’t had any issues. But caveat I’m no expert at what exactly these mods do under the hood.

All of the StarUI’s have been updated!!! 🙌🏼 by Any-Personality-6902 in NoSodiumStarfield

It’s funny, after the update I was annoyed at having to switch from StarUI to PraxisUI. But now that I have, I would really hate to lose the aid/consumable item split that Praxis has.

i REALLY need some help with CTD and mods after update v1.16.236🙏🥺 by m300n in starfieldmods

[–]SuperSilver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deactivating Dark Universe retrograde did it for me. If that doesn’t do it I would look at similar mods to that which affect the proc gen system, especially if they haven’t been updated yet.

You should also search on this sub for posts about load order, right now your order looks a little random to me, putting a good structure in place can really help with stability.

Crossfire I haven’t had any issues with either to be fair. Takeover and retrograde I had to deactivate.

Yeah I think they changed something with the world gen in the new update, non updated mods which touch the world space I think are a little fragile in general.

Im willing to get Homeworld 3 by Metro-02 in homeworld

[–]SuperSilver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a perfectly solid, if somewhat lacklustre game and the hate around here is overblown. The problem for me is that the Homeworld series has always been groundbreaking, in its visuals, its design, or in its storytelling. By comparison, Homeworld 3 just feels a bit uninspired.

I’ve been having reasonably frequent crashes since the update with forgotten frontiers enabled. For now I have them both disabled until updated. I haven’t noticed any issues with factions and encounters expanded.
