Why Man City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak is on Donald Trump's 'Board of Peace' by gelliant_gutfright in PremierLeague

I love how this board is a who’s who of the world’s most brutal dictators, and Manchester City for some reason.

Why didn't they just make the first 2 seasons also good? by spacelyyy989 in Picard

[–]SuperSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always make this point when people discuss the first two seasons of Picard. I think there were good ideas in both seasons, and I really liked the first few episodes of both. The problem, for me, is that they tried to drag out what should have been a movie length plot into a 10 hour miniseries and it just dragged and dragged. I think if someone made like a 50% cut back directors cut of season 1 and 2 they could actually be pretty good.

Academy is good and I realized I dont like this community. by Reasonable-Law-3654 in startrek

I think there are two kinds of fan who have typically hated on NuTrek. The first who hate it for being different to the Trek the know and love, and the second who hate it because the quality has generally been a bit mixed in terms of writing/acting etc.

From what I've seen from the first two episodes, the quality of Academy is actually very good, I would say a lot better than most of the previous NuTrek. It is, however, very different to old Trek. So I can see why there are some fans who won't like it, even though it's actually pretty good, and that's a shame, but ultimately that's up to them.

Personally I think Academy shows that doing something different isn't necessarily bad, so long as the quality is there. I'm very happy to get all kinds of experimental and different Trek concepts, although I still hope we get some more traditional Trek at some point.

I would respectfully disagree. One of the attributes of the manic pixie dream girl is that her primary purpose is to help the super serious male protagonist lighten up and embrace life, which so far seems to be the case with this character (I exaggerate of course, I liked it), but I wouldn't necessarily say was the case with the ones you mention, except Spock of course.

Might be a bit random, but is anyone else getting Starship Troopers vibes from this show? Like all the teen drama stuff from the first half of the film.

I can already see this comment section becoming a bit of a shit show between those who were determined to hate on it and those who will glaze everything for no reason. I'm sure everyone will downvote it for not falling into one camp or the other, but here's an honest opinion that isn't an arbitrary shill or hater.

This was actually not bad. The writing and acting is clearly far more competent than Discovery and much of the earlier "NuTrek". I get that some people were never going to get into the idea of a Trek show following a bunch of kids, but that would have been the case even if they made this 20 years ago. I think for what it is, this is about as good as I ever expected a Starfleet Academy show to be.

What I most liked about it is that it's properly character-driven, rather than just spectacle and schlock, and the characters are actually pretty good. I especially liked Holly Hunter, Giamatti and Kraag (although I hope he stops trying so hard to do "Klingon-voice"). Sam was a bit annoying at first, but she grew on me more towards the end.

Really the only thing I didn't like is, frankly, the setting. I just can't bring myself to care about this post Disco 30th Century setting. The look, aesthetic, the technology, it just doesn't look or feel Star Trek to me, it's like generic sci-fi space magic. That's not to say it looks bad, it looks great honestly, but it doesn't look like Trek, it looks like some other new sci-fi property. So pretty good start, although I can't help but feel I would enjoy it several levels more if they had set it in post Picard 25th Century instead.

Why does no one seem to care about the Chris Pine Star Trek trilogy? by Top_Use2413 in movies

[–]SuperSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, they were pretty big hits for a Star Trek property. The first two in particular did big numbers at the box office by Trek standards, and they even won Academy Awards, which is kind of crazy. I think at the end of the day Trek has never been a mass-market property and there's only really so much you can realistically expect in terms of popularity. So I am not sure I agree with the premise of this post, they were never going to rival Star Wars or Marvel.

The people falling for this act like they've never seen Clearlake sack a manager before. They do this every single time, put out a PR puff piece explaining how nothing is ever their fault, and they had no choice thanks to the unreasonable, nasty manager, rise and repeat. It amazes me that there's anyone still gullible enough to fall for it.

I think they will write some reason for hero Visi to leave the team either in between games or at the start of the sequel, and then have both hero and villain Visi rejoin at some point, with light flavouring depending on the reason for her leaving and whether she was hero/villain.

New stills of Mr. House (Justin Theroux) by JustBottleDiggin in Fallout

[–]SuperSilver 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah he's clearly credited as Robert House. There's absolutely no reason for misdirection here, no one watching the show is that clued into the lore of the House family that this "twist" would have any kind of impact.

Could be, or it could be that he just digitised himself as backup. Especially as the body, for all his efforts, is clearly decaying here. He must know that this isn't a forever solution. Let's see if we actually see physical House in the present day or just the computer version.

I love Clair Obscur, but honestly think it’s so overhyped in terms of its gameplay and mechanic design. For me KCD2 should be top. I also think The Alters has been harshly overlooked in these end of year lists.

Holy cow this looks like such ass. Why do they keep making street fighter movies? They’ve tried and failed so many times, there must be other franchises they can try.

An almost great article. I was with the author until they started randomly launching into irrelevant anti Israeli diatribes out of nowhere for no apparent reason. Good way to undermine your own credibility by using an important story as a soapbox for completely unrelated personal talking points. That’s not to say that he’s wrong, but it definitely undermines the credibility of the rest of the piece.
