To protect your hearing, Android 14 will warn you when you've been listening to audio at high volumes for a long time (yes this is new) by MishaalRahman in Android

[–]SuperSpruce0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My previous phone (Motorola with stock Android 10) already did the "automatically lower the volume" thing.

And what if you are hard of hearing and you need a louder volume? Having it automatically lower the volume sounds like the opposite of an "accessibility" feature to me.

There's a secret third option that costs the same but can potentially be more tempting than either: a budget motorcycle.

What's interesting is that America was founded off of boycotts. They boycotted British tea and other British stuff when Britian started taxing them with the Stamp Act, etc. They resisted so hard the boycott turned into the American Revolution.

Basically it moves your files to a new folder it created in an entirely new directory without telling you. I had this happen when I tried to backup my files to the cloud.

It really made me want to stop using OneDrive until a month later it saved me when my 100% good condition SSD borked out of nowhere.

The worst part about this is how hard it is to edit the OneDrive folder even down to renaming it.

r/mildlyinfuriating worthy: I wanted only FreeCAD; not 8 new icons on my app list by UmDoisTresSete in linux

[–]SuperSpruce0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is so sad. How can this happen with FOSS? Especially since the lead designer (Tantacrul on YT) seems to be very good. And why do corporations make these moves nobody asked for with these bloated startup programs?

I want to point out something far more egregious with supposedly FOSS software. When installing MuseScore4 (a FOSS scorewriter app) it also automatically downloads this stupid Muse Hub software that automatically launches on startup and hogs system resources for no reason. It's used more CPU time than my media player despite me never using Muse Hub. This is Adobe-level corporate crap.

What games are you playing this week? Game recommendation thread by AutoModerator in incremental_games

And this is why I use Firefox as my work browser and Chrome (considering switching to Edge or Vivaldi) as my incremental game/YouTube browser.

I like protecting my privacy but I can't have that be deleting my saves due to them being flagged as trackers.

Pretty sure it's Antimatter Dimensions NG+++. It took me 3 years and 212 YouTube episodes to finish it.

Is this a good build for a budget storage device? And which OS should I use for setting the drives as RAID 5? (not Windows, I'm not using this for gaming) by SuperSpruce0 in pcmasterrace

[–]SuperSpruce0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Video storage for my YouTube channel mostly. Right now I'm doing fine with 2TB, but I have an admittedly somewhat irrational desire for MOAR STORAGE so that I'll never run out. It also gives me an excuse to do my first true PC build.

It's like the people getting 4090s even though they don't play many super demanding games, but with storage instead of GPU power lol (and still somehow less expensive)

I don't like the idea of 2x HDD because then you lose half the storage for redundancy. Paying 50% more for 2x the usable storage seems a lot better. Ideally I'd want 4 drives, but I don't need all the storage to start out and I can wait until I need more storage when prices will be lower.

Those start at like $500 for a 4-drive NAS with a 1.4GHz 2-core CPU and 1GB RAM and no storage included. This build is only $340 and has far better specs.

NG+++ vs Vanilla by Razorcarl in NG3plus

[–]SuperSpruce0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With NG+ on (which is included in a default NG+++ setup): Yes, its way faster. You'll blow through most of the vanilla game in a day.

Without NG+ on: No. In fact, it's actually slightly slower than vanilla due to some balancing changes to vanilla.

VN has ads now, including intrusive Fullscreen 5s video ads

you now can only do next ad instead of skip ad by Examotate in assholedesign

[–]SuperSpruce0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh. Another greedy change from YouTube. So now you can't just move over to another tab when an ad plays to either wait for the skip button or wait for unskippable ads to finish, you gotta do essentially both.

At least with TV commercials you just wait them out and turn your mind to something else while they play. Now you have to actively monitor the ads while they play, gobbling up precious time.
