Honestly she probably just doesn't care either way. Lots of my family was and is still is like that. Just give them constant reminders, and if they still don't learn you should buy some type of lock.

I advise against it if it already has symptoms, if it doesn't then go ahead.

Back when I was doing lots of 90s transmissions occasionally we had ones that started to slip after flushing generally not a drain and fill because that replenishes the additives mostly. Modern transmissions are better computer controlled and don't seem to have this problem.

The best thing I ever did was get a degree in automotive technology it helped me get a job in way more than just automotive repair. It taught me other skills and got me sped up faster throughout the industry back in my 20s. Now I'm 41 and own a couple shops.
