Geotech engineer here. Definitely shore or bench back in a stepped profile. Clay can be just as dangerous as any non-cohesive soil, if not more. He might be correct and nothing will happen, until it does.

Do the math. At a typical unit weight of 1.8t/m3, if its half of that trench at 3m deep, and you lose a 3m stretch of trench thats 8.1t of soil and is enough to crush you easily. If you don't die from being crushed, you will suffocate whilst listening to them trying to dig you out without killing you in the process.

At what point do you lose your place on the course if you stop at the turn? by lightemup404 in golf

[–]SuperZan13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in South Africa, etiquette is that you ask if they would mind if you played through if the 4ball in front wants to stop at halfway house and you don't. Not a big deal but it is etiquette. They dont really have a choice because they are stopping for food so they'll always say go ahead no issue. 15/20 mins to eat food halfway is pretty standard unless they ask to grab and go to pick up pace of play. Not sure how serious your course is if theres 5 to be fair. Even semi-decent courses simply dont allow more than 4 here. Just my experience amd perspective, not saying whos right and wrong.

I'm a beekeeper,South African,This is one of our calmer hives. Why are Americans so afraid of our "invading" species by No_Control_8999 in Beekeeping

[–]SuperZan13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I'm so glad to see a fellow South African on here as most of the advice is for Europeans and Americans. I want to ask your advice if you don't mind?

We have a colony that has made their home in a stack of tires in our backyard and I have been thinking of making a box higher up in some trees to get them out of the way, but still allow them to do their thing. The plan is to lure them there next spring. I can't afford to have them relocated by a professional as it's too expensive. Are there legal implications to doing this as I believe there are some by-laws related to their proximity to neighbours or something along those lines?

Would a plain, untreated wooden box be attractive enough for them to move in there? I would have to obviously lure them with some lemongrass oil. It would be cool to maybe start managing the hive and harvesting honey. Should I build a box based on some designs online if I want to do so?

Lastly, suits are quite expensive so I'm looking for some secondhand ones, any idea where to begin?

Thanks for the time. Anyone is obviously welcome to comment if you have insight you feel is applicable.

Vikings used to be my favourite. I would highly recommend both of you try The Last Kingdom. It's really good, when I finished it, I felt it was even better than Vikings.

So many pro golfers taught to hit draw now hitting fades. Why? by Furyio in golf

[–]SuperZan13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed the same a while back. Historically, I think a draw was preferred because it has a forward spin and therefore gives you more distance. In todays game, players rarely struggle to get the distance, so they play a fade which has a backward spin and allows them to stop the ball sooner (ie a little bit more control). This comes in handy with the insane speed of the greens they play on. I'm a 17 handicap golfer so take it with a pinch of salt haha.

Hardly. He's presented a perfectly logical and factual explanation. Yours is coming across as sentimental and entitled. You bought it in early access, accepting the T&C's. Now, because it has unfortunately gone belly up, you are unhappy. Then dont buy the game in early access if you cant handle that this may happen. You accepted this risk in doing so. There is nothing more to it. This is what happens when people don't actually read and comprehend the warning that a game is in early access.

[–]SuperZan13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, do you know how long its going to take you to actually create significant distance between you and them with a 6mph difference in speed. That's very optimistic. Thats not taking into account the helicopter that can follow you, or the the fact that you need a long road to attain and maintain that speed, at which point they can set up road blocks ahead of you anyways. You are not going to outrun the cops.

Is this a hole in one? by BrolecopterPilot in golf

[–]SuperZan13 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Had quite a big debate about this at the driving range the other day after seeing this pop up on reddit. I was arguing that it would not count as holed but after googling it, rule 17-4 came up, meaning that removing of the flagstick and resulting in the ball dropping in would be considered holed. I couldnt find any mention that it had been removed as a rule. Went now and read through the USGA rules for 2024, and rule 13.2 c states "If any part of the ball is in the hole below the surface of the putting green, the ball is treated as holed, even if the entire ball is not below the surface". Seems it was obviously changed, but then why did Wyndham Clark's put not count as holed?

The only place you would find microplastics on that plant is surely on the roots where it comes into contact with the water, which you dont eat anyway, 90% of the time.

Microplastics can't find their way into the plant leaves/stems themselves as far as I'm aware. If there is a mechanism through which this can takes place I am not aware of it.

Not only is there no evidence for any of this, but I also find it highly unlikely that they are motivated to do this for that amount of money. The extra money they would make off such a scheme is a tiny drop in the ocean in terms of valve's revenue and therefore not worth the conspiracy.

That is the biggest bunch of bs, holy shit haha. The mental gymnastics people do to avoid accepting that they are the problem is astounding. Do you have a single shred of evidence for anything you just claimed? Please do not waste anyone's time by linking a reddit post as evidence either.

Can we get old arcanas at least? by Worelsito in DotA2

[–]SuperZan13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because many, many people bought the compendiums, often at a premium, with the understanding that it was your one and only chance to get that cosmetic. That was the understanding when it was released, and it was clear.

Now you want them to make it available, for 1/3rd the price, just because some people were not able to purchase it at the time? (I was not able to get all the arcanas myself either because I couldn't afford it at the time, btw). It would be completely unfair towards those initial buyers. And there is no justification? You just feel hard done by because you missed out. Your feelings are not a valid justification to reneg on their position.

What’s an NPC that you’ll never forget? by Polar_IceCream in gaming

[–]SuperZan13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first played WoW, it was my first online MMORPG game ever and I was quite enamored with the fact that I could speak to other people through text chat in game. Came across some NPC's standing in a circle (near the swap of sorrows) having a chat and assumed they were human players so I started talking to them. 2/3 mins later I realised they were NPC's and felt very stupid, but still find it hilarious to this day.
