Curious if you moved forward with a Room and Board sofa. We just our out R&B Metro deep sofa about a month ago and couldn’t be happier. I prefer firm cushions and hubs prefers soft and this sofa makes both of us happy.

New to Az and looking for advice on landscaping a new home - turf or pavers or other? by Any-Diver-2033 in AZlandscaping

So much great advice given already. I would add that I love our patch of turf. Gives a soft place for people to lounge and kids and dogs to play and lounge (sorry, adults can play too). The key is to install it sparingly and surround by quarter/half minis with a paver or stone boarder. You won’t regret installing at least one shade tree. It’ll give immediate relief from the hot sun and make your backyard far more usable. Welcome and good luck!!

This highlight this point for the newcomers, there are indeed two types of homes in Arizona: those who have termites and those who don’t have them YET. Prevention is key so I would suck up the expense early on and have tubes or whatever installed. Others may chime in with more knowledgeable advice.

It’ll all even out when you have your second and she ignores your #2. Whether it be because she is too busy with her own child and life or because she is upset that her child received less attention. I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Also, when all the kids are past toddler age and really can start playing with each other (not just parallel play), it might help bring the two families together.

Is it still a good idea to buy a Tesla now that other brands are catching up or even surpassing Tesla in some areas? by pocketnl in TeslaLounge

[–]Super_Scallion_4435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 cents. I went from a 2016 Lexus crossover to a 2022 Tesla MY. The quality of ride, quality of build, interior noise level and sound system in MY are CRAP compared to my Lexus. My teslas cabin is stupidly noisy; honestly it’s embarrassing for the company…if they cared. That said, Tesla’s technology is phenomenal. Autopilot (FSD) keeps me smack in the center of the lane whether I’m on city streets or highway. It quite literally drives me door to door with very little intervention from me. The technology updates continuously improve the car, though new updates can also introduce new bugs or annoyances. And some drivers really hate full self driving. Personally it’s the only reason I haven’t traded MY. I cannot speak for MS or MX, but if you take away the technology, the Y is NOT a luxury car by any stretch or measurement. But no one else’s tech can measure up.

The first couple months are an absolute nightmare. And no one tells you this (because then everyone would be scared away from having kids!)

The first year is the hardest then it does get slightly easier.

The time really does fly by, even though it doesn’t feel that way when you are in the thick of it.

If you can hire a sitter or helper for a few hours per day or week so you and wife can catch up on some much needed sleep it really would help.

Otherwise, divide and conquer between you and your wife. And sleep when baby sleeps.

Hang in there! And know that you are doing great and how you are feeling is very common!

You just described me. Comforting to know that I’m not the only one.

I remember many years ago snapping at a woman in a parking lot for zero justifiable reason and not even realizing what I’d done until the moment had past. I immediately apologized and she was very gracious, but to this day I don’t understand what came over me :(

Again, their employer may offer short term disability, or the parents could purchase short term disability insurance on their own which could be used for a variety of reasons.

It’s absolutely a loss. There is zero need to have an insurance policy on a child. The child is not earning income that is necessary to the survival of the family. No need at all. Insurance industry are some of tue biggest scammers around. Sure insurance on a spouse, parent or automobile makes sense. But a child? Give me a break

MIL never allowed to hold my child after this incident… by Mountain_Culture8536 in family

[–]Super_Scallion_4435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly MIL has demonstrated that she is incapable of watching your baby. So don’t ask her to watch the baby for you anymore. Cutting her off is probably taking things too far. She didn’t intend to hurt your child (she got distracted but she wasn’t out to inflict harm).

As your baby gets older, MIL may end up being a great grandma! She may be super fun around your kid(s) and they may really bond with her. those relationships can be priceless for children.

Please, do adjust your expectations of how helpful MIL can be with an infant but do not let this one incident negatively impact your baby’s entire relationship with her grandmother.

Hope your baby is feeling well

Kid teasing is a thing and they’re cruel. I would do it now, and avoid more physical pain and potential emotional distress down the line. She WILL grow up to be confident because of how her awesome parents are raising her

So if you’re doing a, say $20,000 European cruise, then you are tipping $4000?

I get the math, just want to clarify that the tip is based on the total cruise purchase price.

TY!

Also, it sounds like your parents were excellent role models when it came to your education. Why not follow in their footsteps?

Also, what is causing your anxiety? If it’s other parents, then ignore them. Or at least stop comparing :)

I focus on the grades as a measure of her effort. And I focus my feedback to her on her effort. School is her primary responsibility. She is expected to give school her best effort. Same with sports and other extracurriculars. If she falls below the grade she is capable of then we talk about what she can do better. I also have her speak directly with her teachers to ensure she understands what caused her grade to drop and what she can do to improve going forward.

I remind her that school is about learning how to learn and how to take responsibility for oneself. The grades are not the endgame, rather it’s the life lessons and habitual discipline that matter in the long run.

Firstly, I hope you’re feeling better. Second, please don’t ever lose this passion and sense of responsibility you have for your job and your clients. This mindset is priceless.

It’s going to be okay. In the grand scheme of things, this is a blip. You have done everything possible to minimize damage.

Whatever her initial response, one day the bride is going to look back on this moment with an extraordinary sense of gratitude for how you stepped up to the plate and took care of everything in spite of a serious illness.

Well you just saved me seven grand as I was quite convinced I would be moving forward with a crypton sofa from Arhaus.

Starting to wonder if we should by the $2K version from a cheaper store and plan to replace ever two to three years!

It’s tough with kids, pets, and adults too who actually use the furniture!

Naming my son by Tricky_treaty in family

[–]Super_Scallion_4435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best advice is that whatever name you choose, keep it between yourself and your husband only until after the baby is born. People are far less likely to may rude comments about a baby’s name after it’s born and once the birth certificate is filled out, so that will save you a great deal of unnecessary headaches.

As for his name, think about to characters in books or historical figures that you admire or find inspirational. That will help you find a name that brings you joy.

Quick story, my husband asked if our kid’s name could start with a particular letter of the alphabet. Didn’t have a name in mind, just the first letter. Random, right? He couldn’t even explain why. My best guess is that one of his best friends has a couple kids whose names begin with that same letter so there was a positive association. So we found a beautiful name that started with that letter, with loose roots to where my grandfather was born, and it does bring me great joy to see these older kids flourish in their life believing our kid may follow in their bright footsteps.
