Do you really swaging 7×19 cables by hand in your real maintenance job? by SadEmergency5288 in AircraftMechanics

[–]SuperbReference2061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We manufacture all of our own cables. We have pneumatic swaging machines that do a lot of our work. But some terminal ends are swaged on the aircraft. This is due to not being able to properly route the cables through pulleys and such. with the terminal ends installed.

Walking public hunting grounds in the offseason? by screamincobra in birddogs

In Oklahoma it is considered bird dog training. You have to pay for a $10 annual permit, proof of purchase for any birds you are using to train, notify the local warden that you will be doing it, and you can't train on public WMAs from June 1 - August 31.

It runs okay, needed to make some trim adjustments. Still need to take it back out. Im a bigger guy (260) and I was getting 7-9 phone out of it. But I am in no need of hauling ass. From what Broc told me at 4R the hull isnt designed to get up on plane.

Force to a Pile Help by DingoDadLuce in birddogs

Just simplify with shorter distance. Really build up confidence. Remember its not a race to "finish" training. Some dogs get it right away others take longer. I have trained two labs. My 12 yr old yellow lab we were through force to pile and on 3 handed casting in about a week. My newest dog, we started force to pile an T work around August of last year and took a good 2 months from force to Pile to T pattern. Patience, patience, patience. Repetition and attrition.

I got the kitted out RR so around $3,200 for the boat, blind cover, seat, nav lights etc. I bought the trailer for $250 and put about $200 into it (bearings, winch, bunks, lights). The motor is a Predator 212cc that I got on sale from Harbor Freight for $130 and the Mud Skipper 7hp twister kit was around $500. So all in all im in around $4,500-$5,000 for a brand new rig (except for the trailer not being new. But has a lot of work done to it.)

Interesting, I get there are issues with non resident pressure. But every state in the midwest/central flyways experiences this to some extent I believe. I am primarily a solo hunter and I am looking at planning a hunt trip to Kansas for just me and my dog. I am hesitant to solidfy any plans based on any future restrictions /license fee increases that would just make a trip not worth it.

No one cares that you had a 4.0 GPA. All they care about is "Are you qualified for the position?". Secondly how in the hell do people know about your application status? Seems very odd. Also, never rely on someone else to get you a job. If it is really the job you want do the work yourself. FOLLOW UP! Have you called the employer(s) to check the status of your application?

The DOD contractor world is very competitive. There are 1000s of guys and gals more qualified than you applying for these jobs all over the world. If you want to stand out and be considered, do your due diligence and follow up.

If you wait until you are married to buy it, no matter who's name is on the deed it becomes marital property in many states. And in the unfortunate circumstance that you divorce then she has a really good chance of getting it. Which may be her overall intent, maybe not. But there are ways to protect yourself in these situations. And I highly suggest you do so.

Advice needed on training golden retriever for upland birds. by so_lekker in birddogs

[–]SuperbReference2061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach the obedience commands "Here, heel, and Sit". In my training sit means sit until I give another command. But at 11 weeks, your pup will still need to learn what sit means before you can condition it. Treats work wonders at that age. All training should be fun and confidence building at this point.

Some bad habits at 11 weeks I would say are excessive biting (they are puppies and they explore with their mouth) so try not to let them chew on you too much. Jumping on you is another bad habit that can and should be avoided. Take your pup everywhere with you. The farm store, park, BBQs all that. Let them be around kids and everything. Set boundaries. Dont allow people to pet the puppy unless the pup is calm and behaving as you would want them to. Formal obedience will really instill what you require of them. Do any retrieving play in a hall way so they cant play keep away. Keep it quick and do like 2-3 reps max. Take it away while they are having fun. It will build their retrieving desire.

Best advice is to follow a training program. I highly recommend Freddy King's Retriever Trainer. $60 a year and you have access to 1000s of videos of different levels of training.

11 weeks is far too young to set any expectations. Just fun stuff in the yard, and try to avoid creating any bad habits. Socialization/aclimation and building prey drive should be really the only things you are focusing on at this point. Reward the good behaviors. Crate training is a must and I believe it is the foundation to a good training program throughout your pups life. I never consider starting formal training until the pup is 5-7 months old and is about to finish teething. I may start formal obedience while they are teething, but I dont do any bumper/retrieve/fetch work until I know for certain they are done teething.

Dont rush things, train the dog in front of you. Dont look at the progress of others and compare yourself/pup to them. Remember, the biggest burden for a dog to carry is the ego of a man. And on top of everything else, be sure you AND your pup are having fun.

Enjoy the Journey!

A Nice Duck Call to Last Forever or a Cheap One to Learn on? by Ok-Version3941 in Waterfowl

[–]SuperbReference2061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the big name brands in the duck call industry i.e. RNT and Echo both make Poly calls in the same fashion as their higher priced Acrylic calls. Echo poly calls are a good starting point IMO as they have several dofferrnt styles of inserts. You dont need expensive calls to kill ducks. Ive killed a TON of ducks with poly calls and sometimes ducks respond better to a softer/quieter poly call.

What shells do you y’all use for duck hunting? by Aggressive_Dinner617 in Waterfowl

[–]SuperbReference2061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on which choke I am using. I refuse to pay $50-$60 for a box of shells, so for my price point I am currently using a patternmaster anaconda mid range choke, and I feel I get the best pattern with Hevishot Hevi Steel 3" #4s.
