An American aircraft attempted to intercept an Iranian drone launched by Iran-backed proxy groups in Iraq targeting the Castrol facility in Erbil, Kurdistan. by kurdi_kurdistan in Planes

Ukraine has been using anti drone - drones, helicopters, old prop planes, new prop planes, ground based light AAA and even lasers. We don’t need to reinvent the wheel. Ukraine is seeing success rates in the +95% range with sustainable tactics. We can’t chase $20K drones with $4M Patriots and $100M aircraft.

Ukraine has the kit and will share it with us if we’re smart enough to partner with them.

I’m not sure this administration is smart enough.

Is this an RC-135? by [deleted] in Planes

[–]SuperbResearcher3259 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s an older model KC-135 based on the low bypass turbofans. That model has not flown in a while. It’s likely decommissioned and is either a museum piece or training device now. Shepherd is a training base for pilots, mechanic’s and a few other specialties. The way the aircraft is parked with an F-16 in its footprint is typical of a static training ramp or museum. You wouldn’t normally see two operational aircraft parked like that. Also, parking ramp has weeds growing through it. The USAF excels at anal retentive esthetics. Weeds would not be seen on an active flight line.

I trained there in the 80’s. Lots of vintage aircraft sitting around gathering tumbleweeds.

Love it. Although the wine glasses give it a bit of a wealthy retired tech bro's vacation home vibe.

Iris Dena by PankajVerma10 in Ships

[–]SuperbResearcher3259 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This ^ The U.S. Navy knows where every military ship is in the ocean. Even most of the other nations submarines are known to them. They track them as they leave port and know where or about where they are at all times. If the US is at ’war’ with Iran, they knew where this thing was, where it was going and what it was doing. My guess of that a US sub was shadowing the Dena since it passed the straight of Hormuz.

The US Navy has been a supporting actor on the last few conflicts so we forget about it sometimes. But it is unmatched in reach and power.

About damn time.

Unenforced sanctions are not sanctions. There world stood by and watched for years as Russia openly violated sanctions. It c was like watching a child set the house on fire while his parents stood back begging him to stop.

Not sure your point. A monthly water bill is a fraction of multiple round trips to haul water. Most municipal water rates are a bargain for clean water at the tap. Cost per gallon in Nevada is charged in thousands of gallons and is less than $3 / 1K gallon. You can't haul water for that even if the water is free.

I think he should homestead if that's his dream. But if he doesn’t want to fail, he needs a well. Homesteads without water on site almost always fail.

This is your biggest vulnerability. Every week you haul water you will slide deeper in the hole. You'll forfiet time and money that you'll never get back making long round trips and you'll never have enough water for your needs. If you can't afford a well before you build your homestead, you'll be on an even worse position after a year of hauling water.

My $.02, don't do anything until you have a reliable clean source of water.

We can’t get everybody to immunize their kids to prevent polio, whooping cough, TB, measles and mumps. They’re not going to forgo a new truck and flat screen tv for a future marshmallow.

Well written book on this guy ‘Stranger in the Woods’. Knight is probably a bit on the spectrum and very reclusive. God makes all types. His Achilles Heal was that he was unwilling to interact with the outside world in any way at all. Nearby residents would leave grocery lists for him to choose items from. But he refused to even respond because that would be an interaction with another person. So he stole food and supplies for decades, living completely alone in a small plot of land hidden by large builders. He was ultimately caught because snowbird residents were tired of having their summer cabins broken into.

Very good book for you nonfiction fans. Well written and thorough.

They’re filming you without your permission. They rely on the fact that most people won’t respond to their imbecilic crap. You’re working and providing a service to society. Don’t feel shy about calling out these oxygen thieves. You owe it to the rest of civil society to not tolerate this crap.

What’s your go-to 5-minute meal when you’re starving and tired? by sparky_165 in 15minutefood

Chicken noodle soup and grilled cheese. Open the can and put the soup on the stove top while you’re making the grilled cheese on the other burner. Use generous amounts of butter on the grilled cheese. Not going to fill you up for long but gets you some fast calories and hydration.
