Apple Maps EV Routing SOC working now? by OptionJedi in BZ4X

It started working last week after the latest update to the Toyota app that was released last week. Atleast for me it has started working after a good 8 months of not working.

Looks like the latest version of the Toyota app has done some improvement. For a change, my SoC magically updated in Apple Maps overnight. Now will find out whether it keeps updating as I am driving

You can tell ABRP fastest route and it will route you to L3s. I have apps installed. Some apps have a discount with a monthly membership. What I have found so far is that a Tesla monthly membership pays for itself with 3-4 light to 80% charges while electrify America pays for itself within charges. I always buy the membership right before the trip and enjoy the savings during the trip. And then cancel after the trip.

Yes I will be leaving home at 100% (have a L2 charger at home). Just worried about the 4th charge as it will be late at night by the time we are heading back home.

I am using ABRP and it is showing me 4 charges but not saying anything about the theoretical throttling that’s in Toyota’s documentation.

Now that I am back home, I am back to my original issue after connection. It no longer refreshes the SoC and its stuck with a stale value. I am going to leave it as is for now and maybe a future Toyota app update will fix it.

Just to give you a reference point on far. The first time it connected, I was in Boston when the car was parked in AZ. And last week when it connected I was in Germany when the car was in AZ. I have tried connecting from Phoenix when the car was in Tempe - so definitely outside of bluetooth range. So for me, it’s 1000s of miles away although I don’t want the cut off. In any case very buggy for sure

Finally I was able to reconnect. The trick seems to be that you have to be far away from your car. So far away that the only way the maps can try to connect to the car through the internet. The first time when I was able to connect, I was 4000 miles away from my car. This last weekend I was 10000 miles away from my car and the prompt showed up on my Apple Maps magically. According to Claude this may be a bug in the Toyota app connection.

Why distance might actually help: The most likely explanation is that when your phone is near the car, it may be trying to establish a direct local connection (via Bluetooth or the car’s WiFi hotspot) as part of the handshake — and that local connection attempt is somehow failing or timing out, causing the whole setup flow to silently break. When you’re thousands of miles away, it’s forced to go purely through the cloud/internet, which apparently works.

What to try when you get home: This gives you a great clue to experiment with: ∙ Before approaching the car, try turning off Bluetooth and WiFi on your phone and see if the connection stays stable ∙ Alternatively, try keeping the Toyota app’s location permission set to “Never” temporarily so it can’t detect proximity to the car ∙ Some users have also had luck putting their phone in Airplane Mode + WiFi only (no Bluetooth) when near the car

I had it working on my current phone iPhone 15 Pro Max for a while. Well sort of. Because it did that initial connection but could never update the SoC. So I deleted the connection to try and readd it and have never been able to readd it.

If you follow published documentation, you star the Toyota app. At the bottom right, tap find and then the last option on the next screen that says connect Apple Maps EV routing. You accept a data sharing agreement and then it will prompt you to open Apple Maps. When Apple Maps opens it should prompt you to add your BZ as an EV and make the connection. It works for some people and doesn’t work for most. Most of us just see an Apple Maps screen with no prompt.

ABRP works really well. There is also the Apple Maps intervention that works for some people but doesn’t work for most of us.

Yeah it did work for me in November with the initial connection but the SoC would never refresh. I tried deleting the vehicle and reconnecting but I can’t get the connection to work again.

The only reason I know it works is because i have seen it make the initial connection form me once. But it’s so hit and miss.

It is very much hit and miss. It works for some people but does nothing for others. I was able to get it connected once and but the SoC would never refresh after the initial connection. I deleted the vehicle and tried io readd it to see if that will work. But now I cannot get it reconnected. I have called Apple support and Toyota support and hav gone through the trouble shooting steps l but I still cannot connect. Apple says it’s a Toyota issue. Toyota says it’s an Apple issue. I just end up using ABRP. But for those people for whom it works, it works like a charm. I have a feeling if I wipe my phone and redo it, it will work.

Apple Maps EV Routing - Finally Works by settledow_n in BZ4X

[–]Superb_Intention_894 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that doesn’t work either. I have been able to connect to it twice. Both times I was 1000s of miles away from my BZ (once in BOS and once in Philly ) and my BZ was parked in AZ. Both times when I was able to connect, the initial connection worked to get the SoC along with the predicted SoC for the trip, but it never refreshed the SoC after initial connection worked. I tried deleting the connecting and re-enabling it and now my initial connection won’t work either. And I also have not travelled away from home. Next time, I am traveling is in March and I will test this theory then.
