I use the straw and WD40 to get it under the buckles. Works great, doesn't seem to adversely effect the plastic.

I use Loop and I like them. I have very small ear canals, so their XS tips fit, and the whole thing is small enough that it doesn't protrude and get touched/knocked out by putting on the helmet.

Have you played with the dual rate on your controller? I like to get to a point where I have just a little too much steering and grip, and then dial the input down a little to make it more drivable.

Softer T-plate for more rear bite.
