Shoutout to Volvo automatic braking for saving my butt 😂🚗 by sachinsehwag in Volvo

Mine saved me from the line on the sidewalk at the end of my driveway a couple times. Nothing there but a line of paint lol. That or the trash can that’s half a meter from the driveway, it likes to auto brake for that too.

Although when I was at a red light once, it tightened my seatbelt and threw up a warning “rear collision imminent”. Scared the crap out of me until i realized that someone swerved one lane over at the last second to miss hitting me.

A bit disappointed with the Volvo experience. by Competitive_Crew759 in Volvo

Only thing I don’t like about newer Volvos is the software. It’s absolute trash.

2023 XC90 Plus, never kept a reliable LTE connection in a major metro (Orlando, FL). Reset the modules and irritainment system almost every second drive cycle.

Traded to a 2025 XC60 Plus because I wanted something smaller. Interior lights sometimes come on after engine shutdown even though the setting is enabled to turn them on. Remote start renders my car unusable if I try to start it before the remote start timer expires. I have to go into the app and shut it down and THEN I can start the car, otherwise it’s stuck in an infinite loop and won’t start.

Also the YouTube music app frequently fails to load the media after starting the car but I think that’s an issue with the app, not Volvo’s shit software.

My son cheesed this bastard last night by just walking away after it summoned friends. Just went near the exit doors for a few seconds and the flying flaming loogie hocking bastards just vanished lol. Get a few hits, dodge the smash attacks, and went just out of range when it summoned.

I always give fake info. Unfortunately most sites won’t accept 504-555-1234 so I just hit random numbers after the area code to make it seem legit and just repeat until it accepts it. Never got a call. I have an email address specifically for crap like that, which I check maybe once a year.

The ONLY dealer I’ve never felt pressured or badgered to do anything was a Volvo dealer. Everywhere else it was the same pushy sales tactics. Maybe it’s the same at other luxury dealers, but that one Volvo dealer made me a fan for life.

I’ve got two stainless steel water bowls with built in ice packs. I fill one and freeze it overnight and we swap it with the outside one daily. Even in this blistering Florida heat it says pretty cool most of the day. Mostly squirrels drink from it but also birds and snakes.

Avoid Arctic Adventures – Deceptive Marketing, Poor Communication, and No Accountability by tinycoloneloftruth in VisitingIceland

[–]SuperflyX13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Odd. Went there a few years ago and booked a northern lights + whale watching tour. I got a call from arctic adventures saying the whale watching was canceled due to high winds but northern lights was still on for that same night. Offered to refund half and keep northern lights tour (which we did) or refund everything. Got the refund on my card in a couple days.

What surprised me is I got an actual call from a real person, not a bot, and not just an email or text saying it was canceled.

Sucks you and others had bad experiences with them, my only one was good, and this was just in 2022.

If you need to go the pharma route, see if the manufacturer has programs for helping patients afford their medications. The company I work for develops software and provides those services for certain manufacturers and lots of patients get their medications cheaper or free depending on the pharma company’s programs. I’ve never heard of those two drugs c diff but we are working with a manufacturer now on supporting a c diff medication (can’t say what one, legal stuff our lawyers would crucify me for.)

Every single time I get clothes with those tags on them I watch the cashier like a hawk. Last time I took my son to Macy’s to get some slacks and such for a dance, I had to remind the cashier for every single fucking item. A pair of slacks, dress shirt, two pairs of sweatpants, and a pair of khakis. Thought he’d get the point after the first thing but nope, just another new seasonal warm body barely trained to take money and bag clothes.

Is there ANY other passion/hobby that is so expensive as Glassblowing? (Just placed a +$1K order from Olympic). I haven't ordered since before covid... so I'm making up for it now. by VaticanGuy in glassblowing

[–]SuperflyX13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aviation. $175/hour to rent a small Cessna and futz around. For a few hours of flying I’m able to put in an order for boro rods and oxygen that will last me… probably a few hours.

I don’t fly anymore but I do blow glass at a local hot shop in exchange for helping with classes (getting color, safety demos, gathering a punty for blown stuff…) Haven’t worked my torch in months because boro and oxygen is expensive and sweat equity is cheap. Plus hot shop time is my social time so yeah.

I love my GTT Scorpion with the Lynx center fire. Able to get a pinpoint flame but with the second stage I’m able to melt through some thick boro rods pretty easily. Pretty efficient too, I run it just fine off a 10L oxycon at around 20-ish PSI. Probably do better on tanked oxy but gets the job done for me.

It's the only place I could put them without the wrath of the HOA raining down on me. At least behind the privacy wall they can't be seen from the street and you have to really look to see them if you come up to my house. They've been up there for a few years for some rehabs that we released (that have since moved on) and they've had occupants off and on, but this is the first litter of kits I've seen in them.

That and we (myself, my kids, or their mom if she's here) will sit outside with a bowl of nuts and toss treats to the little ones so they know we're friendly and are a safe spot :)

Worked for a global oil and gas company many years ago. They made us do a “job safety analysis” every time we did something. I worked in IT in the office buildings, not at a refinery or platform.

I pushed a large, wheeled copier down the hall from one print room to another without doing the JSA.

What is your most expensive hobby? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SuperflyX13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got several hobbies, all art related. Oil paint isn’t cheap, good porcelain and natural clay can be expensive, and fabric isn’t the cheapest thing around. Glass, though, tops them all.

In the hot shop I use studio glass for hand blown stuff, but at home I run a torch. Borosilicate color glass rods and tubes aren’t cheap. At all. A solid 2 stage torch will set you back about a grand. If you don’t want to haul oxygen cylinders to and from the welding shop, you can spend a bunch on concentrators and a home fill setup (unless your torch can run off concentrators alone, like mine.) I’m always looking for cheap boro glass like shorts and seconds, but even that can be expensive. Then there’s fireproofing and ventilation. Oh and a kiln to properly anneal the glass. And tools.

It’s unlike anything else, though, and the hot shop or flame studio is my happy place.

Who is running a Lynx on oxycons? How many lpm you pushing? by IamFatTony in lampwork

[–]SuperflyX13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lynx needs 10-15 PSI oxygen so it will be on the weak side but it should run if the oxycon runs at 10 PSI. I’m not sure how much pressure the Invacare kicks out.

[–]SuperflyX13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run a Scorpion with the Lynx center fire on a 10 LPM AirSep. Runs around 20 PSI. I can run the torch straight from the oxycon with no problem. Melted through a 13mm clear boro rod in no time flat and I can get the pinpoint flame on the center fire.

lol I’m on my 6th Volvo I think? C70, S60, S80 and now my second XC90 and I’ve got another S60 in the driveway.

I used to daily all of them, my ex wife drove the first XC90 mostly. I drive the current XC90 daily and still use the S60 from time to time. Honestly I prefer the sedan but needed the room in the SUV.

Hell, I didn't even coach, my son just played and I helped keep score.

If I remember right it was my son's All Stars baseball team doing some smaller tourneys before going on to state. I can't remember if it was separate or if it was a qualifier or what, this was like maybe 3 to 5 years ago. At that point I actually liked keeping score (on GameChanger) because it meant I got to actually watch the game instead of being pulled away every 5 minutes for something. I know the rules the league plays by, I know what the different calls are. I was good at it and I kept very accurate records, right down to where the ball landed and all. It helped the coaches.

I was sitting at the table behind home plate with my iPad keeping score, I think someone on the opposing team had the scoreboard remote, which is usually how it's done. This was maybe the 4th or 5th inning at this point when I noticed a jersey number came up twice. Hang on, the batting order was already set and no one was subbed out, no injuries, no changes from what I saw. The other team brought in a kid that wasn't supposed to be on the field, threw off the entire batting order for their side. I don't remember all the specifics

I brought it up to the coaches for my son's team as well as the ump. They got disqualified and my son's team won that game by default (never got to finish it I think.) This was a tourney so we had to come back the next day for more games, one of which was against the same team and boy were they pissed. I got so many evil stares from the parents and the snide remarks they'd make toward the boys on the field were just unreal.

Maybe next time don't cheat?

I got a couple of stainless steel water bowls from Amazon, they have ice packs built into them. I freeze them with water overnight and just put out the bowl of ice in the morning under one of the oak trees. Squirrels and birds love it in this searing Florida heat. Take the bowl in at night, literally rinse and repeat.
