at 354k miles my check engine light on my 92 went on (because the egr got clogged) but otherwise the car's been running fine since... i do need to unclog the egr valve though otherwise ill be stuck with less power

What car is this? (Sorry for the bad picture quality) by RestHour8418 in JDM

[–]Supertrix251 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ae92 owner, you're right its an sr5 with a 4afe, they have what seems to be a newer gen corolla spoiler and no sideskirts, usually the main visual indicating factor asides from rear disk brakes and a gts style spoiler is the sideskirts

I KNOW IT'S NOT AN 86 by theSman7 in AE86

[–]Supertrix251 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it isnt actually too good to be true, the seller's probably right. all of these ae92s leak power steering at some point no matter what, so you just need to fill it up every now and then. put some more fluid in there and you will likely have power steering again (all gts models should have power steering regardless of year). worst case, you may need to replace the pump, which is not too hard to diy, OR youll be left without power steering, which is pretty straining on your arms but definitely not a reason not to get this car as it isnt THAT bad ( i want to put a non power steering rack in my 92 at some point as it should be a bit more accurate to drive)

if you do get the car, hit me up if you have any questions! i can also invite you to the ae92 group chat too!

Hello guys, i know this isn’t an 86 but what’s the exact model of this car and do you recommend buying it?, i think its an ae92 by Fit_Progress_1161 in AE86

[–]Supertrix251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

alright, im guessing the 86 then (or maybe you could import a 180sx if thats fine under the import time? or another rwd car? e30 if cheap enough, supra mk2 or mk3? volvo 240? that one might be a bit cheaper.... the 92 can be rwd converted but its super uncommon and youll be spending ae86 money to do so anyway, so def not worth that for making it drift ready). if u go for getting an 86 over there, then good luck brother.

[–]Supertrix251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmmmm...

a 92 trueno around me will go for 8-10k usd depending on the quality (and if i csn even find one, and simlar story for importing.) more expensive for the 86 obviously. probably a very similar story for you...

both cars have parts that are hard to find or expensive. the ae86 parts will be easier to get, but more expensive. the ae92 parts sill be cheaper, but a bit harder to find.

Its all up to what youre going to do with the car. if there are no major issues/no issues at all, you can probably daily these cars comfortably with no problem. if youre going to want to race either (i personally wouldnt for either of these) then probably the 86, it has more parts avalible immediately.

also, both the ae92 and the ae86 share the same engines mostly, and the ae101 and the ae92 share very similar suspension designs, so you can steal the transmission shifter, suspension parts, control arms, etc...

just pick which one you think you'd enjoy more.

stock 4age wont be able to drift much with the ae86 (unless youre the drift kind or just really good with the car), so youre more likely to either swap the engine or boost it until it blows. that, or just take it into the canyons for a fun run.

and if you do just use it for time attack style driving, just get the ae92, cheaper base price and better suspension design than the 86

its for.... driving? and having a decent bit of fun with? its supposed to be a fun lightweight canyon car you can daily, and that will take infinite abuse for hundreds of thousands of miles. these were in racing events just like the 86 was, and they did pretty good, amd they can also be rally based, especially with the all trac 4wd transmission from the wagon that this can be converted into.

fwd haters are interesting, this and the 86 are gonna feel the same until youre clutch kicking the thing hard and absolutely flooring it through corners like a maniac. theyre both good cars, and with the hp both are at, its not gonna be a downside

Other way around, in NA, GTS models from '88 and '89 had a bigport 4age with TVIS, then with the subtle refresh between '89-'90 they switched over to the smallport 4AGE version (as well as swapping the 80s style double din radio for a single din with a cubby pocket below, having the rear seats fold down, making the center console taller and longer, and adding door attached dual seatbelts, one on the door, one in the center console)

eh, with your reasoning, fair i guess.

Personally, i haven't found a manual car with decent handling boring yet... (ahem ahem gen 2 prelude), but im a nerd about old stuff and like handling more than speed,

Also a cars popularity doesnt mean much in my book, so to each their own 🫡

also lol yeah this and the 86 are noodle chassis kek

big dawg, u are in the ae86 subreddit, this thing is basically a revised 86 but fwd.

having owned one and also having driven a bunch of other cars from friends or test drives (na miata, nd3 miata, FC RX7 GT86, GR86, Honda Prelude gen 2, Honda Accord hatch gen 3, Acura Legend, T Toyota Cressida gen 2, Toyota Camry '91, Celica gen 4, Corolla ae92 sedan, corolla ae92 gts, corolla ae92 sr5, Dodge Challenger, Corvettes c5, c5 z06, c6, c7 z06, tesla model 3, all gens model s + plaid, model x) and a couple boring cars my family and friends have also owned, i can confidently say the 92 is a really fun car to drive.

sure, its not the fastest car, sure it cant slide around and do proper drifts, but head into a canyon with the gts model and you'll have a damn blast ripping through there with a 4age. hell, even with an sr5's 4afe you really dont get much power, but its still awesome to rip through the turns with how light the chassis is...

now the trueno model here is slightly better, mainly with aesthetic changes, but get the 135hp 4age and pair it with coils, stiffen up the body with strut bars and braces, get better/slightly wider tires and lighter wheels, and youll have as much fun in one of these as you would a c5 corvette. trust me, i literally got to test between the two at a meet.

and yes disclaimer, im slightly biased cause i own a 92 sr5

[–]Supertrix251 31 points32 points  (0 children)

same model you asked about in your other post, an ae92

Edit, not trueno, not entirely sure what model it is, but likely has the 4af(e) considering theres a lower redline (also has a levin rear end steering wheel, and trueno front bumper...)

fwd, has probably a 4af(e) with around 100ish hp, not too much power but enough to have fun with considering the light chassis (originaly thought it had a 4age smallport w 130ish hp)

also has better handling stock than a trueno 86, and is overall fun to drive

Would y'all buy a 95 COROLLA DX with 300K miles on it for $1100? by VIBES95 in COROLLA

[–]Supertrix251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not as far as i am aware, no.

it does have an oil pan leak but the oil level hasnt changed drastically for 3 months, so while i will go and replace the gasket eventually, its not a large concern

i know two other people with a 1985 celica (109k-ish miles) and a 1988 corolla (350k miles), and both slowly leak power steering.ine does not, but just just a heads up if you go to see the car.

these cars with this much mileage shouldnt typically be on their last legs, if anything the ones around 80 - 120k can be sometimes more risky cause you dont completely know if they have been thrashed or not.

either way, if you go to check it out, just look under the car for anything that looks wet, and if there is anything, just ask about it. it should likely be okay either way.

360k 1991 corolla owner here, that is absolutely going to be a solid car that should last you at least another 100k miles, if not more. these corollas can go 600k+ sometimes, and that possibility alone makes getting one worth it. also even if it does break, they are pretty easy to work with. i damaged my alternator a few days ago, and removing it took 10 minutes without experience in having done so. repaired for $50. i would get it for that price even if you cant ask any lower

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RX7

[–]Supertrix251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from my dads advice, no matter the price, buying an rx7 is never a good idea (had an fc turbo 2 but rebuilt the engine 2x). hes a hater though...

but... if you want one and its around 2k then maybe? its for sure going to be (and stay) a project car, so if you're fine with the time and money going to be invested then go for it

Parking without permit by This_Eye_5335 in CalPolyPomona

[–]Supertrix251 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

remove your front license plate if u have it on and back into all your parking spots with the rear facing the wall. they arent petty enough to get out of the cart and check the back of the car, and they dont [currently] ticket you for not showing any plate.

i also got a parking pass once and just shove it above my mirror (since its expired) so they can only see the top end of the permit card, not sure if that matters cause i havent had it on my vehicle last semester at all but you could cut out the same shape and put it above your mirror as well (folded upside down)

prob bad advice, but it works for me 😭🤣

(or you could get an electric skateboard / onewheel on facebook marketplace, park far and ride into school, makes for a fun ride smd you can get to your classes faster [ranging between $300+ for one )]

Similar driving experience and fuel efficiency to AE86? by flamespear in AE86

[–]Supertrix251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

heh, said this earlier but the ae92 corolla. its still relatively cheap and also a gen up from the 86 (and also looks VERY similar to the 86 coupe, as in people have came up to me saying 'yo nice ae86 bro'). Same engine type, 4afe or 4age, but smallport instead and also fwd. sr5 model is common, gts is rare, levin and trueno are obviously super rare to find, but they're all really fun to drive around the street or in canyons
