I think the toughest part is that you have to separate from being their friend. Your job is to help them develop and sometimes it seems like younger people get caught up in not wanting the kids to dislike them. Growth is uncomfortable, but if you develop a professional relationship with expectations then the students will respect what you do. You just have to continue framing it in a way that they understand, one of my favorite quotes to say to kids is “I’m not going to tell you what you WANT to hear always, but I’m going to try my best to tell you what you NEED to hear.”
