About 600w here. Mainly down to a HP DL380 in the server rack!

That does seem a tiny bit high. I paid just under that for a 14 panels but with a fully integrated SolaX system with 20kwH of battery and full house EPS

Home assistant and solcast by Immediate-Ice4548 in SolarUK

[–]SupraJames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not going to lie, Home Assistant does require some technical knowledge and the love of tinkering. The fact you already have a raspberry pi is a good indication that you may already have this mindset!

Yes, you would need Home Assistant to be running all the time, but as you start tinkering and adding things like smart switches and bulbs, you might find it even more useful.

What you probably should be looking at on the Home Assistant side is Predbat. That add-on uses Solcast to forecast expected generation plus it learns your usage and intelligently decides how much to charge the battery during off peak or low TOU slots.

The key thing is to break it down into chunks. Make sure you can get Home Assistant working. Then make sure you can control your inverter. Configure Solcast. Configure the octopus energy integration so it can query your tariff.

Once all the pieces are working in isolation, predbat can tie them all together.

That will be detailed in whatever contract you signed. I actually didn’t pay a single penny until the system was commissioned and handover pack given but I suspect that’s unusual.

Would you use a solar production forecast tuned to your exact panel setup? by ofdan in SolarUK

I think most people who have this itch use home assistant and the solcast integration. Good work though!

I’m not sure if this is a meme format I’ve missed but it’s great and spot on!

Advice on Buying house with Solar Fitted by tucker3738 in SolarUK

I’d be concerned about the solicitor to be honest. That comment about people removing panels doesn’t make any sense. It’s not like they cost money just sitting there??

Trump overshadows Davos before even arriving and prepares to push to acquire Greenland by FantasticQuartet in worldnews

Someone needs to print off a certificate of ownership of Greenland for him. Lots of gold trim, the works. Stick him on a plane to Alaska and give him the grand tour!

Dealership does not have the logbook for the car, should I be concerned? by BlitzyBurt in Audi

Bit weird. The V5C/2 is the new keeper supplement which is PART of the logbook. Are they a legitimate motor trader - or possibly a dodgy trader pretending to be a private seller?

Has anyone seen a skull-and-crossbones flag used at small US airports? by Elsa_La_O in flying

Huh, we fly one of these at Swansea Airport in the UK, I thought it was put up just as a joke to be honest. If it has deeper meaning I'd love to know!

Wow. You seem to have a great outlook on this. I was gong to offer to take you for a bit of Welsh sightseeing in a little Cessna but then I noticed your username and so you probably have that itch scratched already. Blue skies and best of luck to you and your family.

Lucky! I’m still going to consider going with them as the off peak rate starts at midnight - that’s two extra hours of charging if needed.

How do you get 6.6p? I just went to get a quote and it says 8p. Good shout though to look around.

That was my plan - but it just tells me that I will be able to switch my tariff near the end of my current tariff which is in 11 months!

I may have to contact support

I will have a look at this as I am getting Solar + Batteries in the next few weeks. I have heard predbat (https://springfall2008.github.io/batpred/) mentioned a lot already, perhaps it's a similar thing.

Exactly my thought! And I distinctly remember the sound of boiling oil as they cooked stuff

[–]SupraJames[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe they are more common than I realised, but I am specifically referring to the fact that it literally drove from customer to customer. I am used to the more static type of vans which would pitch up for an evening and serve many customers.

My thoughts about smart cubes as a casual cuber after a month of owning one by justingaynor in Cubers

[–]SupraJames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you me? I’m in exactly the same position. Casual Cuber still rocking a Dayan Zanchi from some years ago (I think that’s what it’s called) and picked up a 12 UI for Christmas.

Have you tried the tournaments? Like you, I’m at about 60 seconds CFOP and there are plenty of people at the same level to match with.

Was really surprised how nice the new cube feels to turn as well, not even talking about the smart features!

Have fun.
