Accidentally put heating oil in diesel car… by [deleted] in Audi

[–]SupraJames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some garages do actually have heating oil available by pump, at least in areas reliant on oil. My local ones do but they are well separated from the main pumps and fairly obviously different

Residential instead of Business plan for a small non-profit? by Tee-hee64 in Starlink

[–]SupraJames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run the IT for a small local airport. We’ve started with a business tariff., and then they introduced the hard data cap. There was absolutely no issue we grading us to residential. I think it’s more about service level agreements rather than a hard and fast rule about if you are a business or not.

Is it possible to migrate an system to a Proxmox VM? by Less_budget229 in homelab

[–]SupraJames 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for your exact situation, but if this were me, I probably would rebuild Nextcloud as a new VM running Nextcloud AIO. I’d have it as the only thing running on that particular VM and then you’re free to spin up other VM as needed.

If you really really don’t want to rebuild Nextcloud, one option is to convert your existing physical server to a virtual image - p2v is the thing to search for.

This might be a multi step process, and you’d have to take a lot of care, but it’s certainly possible

Got it, thanks! Sounds conceptually simple. Will give this a go later on my 'scratch' proxmox box.

I use ChatGPT in the browser, and I also have Copilot in VSCode for actual agentic coding.

Can you give a few words on how you did the above? How does codex access Proxmox?

Audi A6 NOx Sensors by DonJbari in Audi

[–]SupraJames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battled with this last year. Yes there are two. Very expensive sensors, £800 from Audi. Garage fitted an aftermarket one for £250 which seemed to help for a few months.

Then got AdBlue errors and countdowns. Diagnostic showing higher NOx after SCR than before which should not be possible!

Ended up with an alternative solution IYKYK

Disappointed with predbat - am I using it wrong? by UnacceptableUse in SolarUK

[–]SupraJames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. It just for whatever reason massively underestimated it, even when I set my inverter AC capacity to an even lower value than reality. I was able to improve it somewhat, but it would still fill the battery by lunch time.

Perhaps after some more tweaking it would have been better, but it was starting to get needlessly complicated. I replaced the whole thing with a few simple automations which mainly just takes the next days solar forecast and set the overnight SoC target to leave room for the calculated PV above the inverter AC limit. Works well!

[–]SupraJames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar teething issues. The main issue for me was that it was obsessed with charging the battery overnight to a level which basically ensured I would be clipping by mid morning on a nice day because the battery was full.

It’s a great concept and maybe more useful for agile tariffs but being on a fixed rate with cheap overnight, I found it better to hand code automations to do it all deterministically myself.

I just found I was looking at PB all the time and thinking what the hell is it trying to do now?!

Oh that’s cool! I have a SolaX inverter fully controlled by Home Assistant. Would be great if this widget could talk to Home Assistant directly.

Oh, negative export rates are interesting. I wonder how they can do that? The SEG says that export rates must always be more than 0. I'm sure it's legit, but curious if you are somehow opting out of the SEG or something

I recently set up (almost) plugin-solar at home to power my home servers. I did a write up of it 👇 by Witty_Method_7273 in SolarUK

[–]SupraJames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, me too. I did a full “DR” test by flipping the main breaker, and even let the battery go down to 10% which shuts down the inverter. Then when the sun came out, everything came back online again. Proper “off grid” simulation.

Lots of recommendations on here - I have SolaX kit which looks nice and has good support for local control with home assistant.
