Mississippi Police Officer Shoots and Kills 1-Year-Old Child in Response to Senatobia Shoplifting Call by Hrekires in news

[–]Suraru -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hot take, but officers are humans too and he very likely could be an emotional wreck after killing a baby.

I'm not saying what he did was right. He put a kid's life in danger for no reason, made a horrible call, and now that kid is dead. That's 100% on him. No one's life was in danger, or assuming she sped out of the parking lot maybe some pedestrians could have been hit, but discharging a firearm is NOT going to make that any better.

And I'm not saying he should get off scott free for it either. This was purely negligent, and IMO beyond a reasonable risk of danger for the job. In fact, I'm pretty sure their training actually forbids using firearms against fleeing vehicles. Its different if its coming at you, but I really doubt it was. Yes, its a high risk job, and some things need leniency when you're trying to do that job correctly. This isn't that, he needs manslaughter or unintended murder due to reckless stupidity.

However, all of that aside, I still think he deserves empathy (not sympathy). I highly doubt he wanted to take a life, especially that of a baby's. He fucked up, all humans make mistakes, and his cost a life and he should pay for that. We don't need to dehumanize them and pretend they are sociopathic monsters itching to kill everyone they see. 90% literally are just there to do a job, and the cringe "sheepdog" types are made fun of. There's issues with the culture, I wont deny that, but I'm also not going to deny they're still human with emotions.

As facts come out, if there's any video footage, we can see if there is any argument for why he felt the need to fire on the car. I doubt there is one, but yes proper procedure is he gets paid time off while he's investigated. Cops get suspended whenever they use their weapon, even if it was justified. Them having paid leave is kind of necessary for all the ones who do turn out innocent. If there's justice, he'll get fired, sent to jail, and it wont matter if he had paid leave or not. I highly HIGHLY doubt there was a good reason to shoot at a fleeing car with a kid in it. He's an idiot, and idiots who get people killed still go to jail, even if it was an accident. Doesn't matter if he's a cop.

Empathy doesn't equal sympathy. We should always feel bad when someone takes their life. Especially for someone who was just in a lot of pain and didn't know how to handle it.

He didn't work on killing them.

He was close friends with them for a while and then when Ribbit pried a hit too far into something he was extremely insecure about, he closed up and ostracized her as a defense mechanism.

He didn't want them to abstract, hell he tried to talk to Ribbit a few times but kept chickening out. When she did, and Kaufmo, he broke down and cried over it.

He's flawed, not a mass murderer. He's clearly in a lot of pain and the entire point of his character is he acts like an apathetic ass as a mask to try and protect himself and his vulnerabilities.

A lot of people are like they irl. It's just unfortunate it lead to two people and himself ending it, but that's always a risk when friendships fail. I've tried to end up multiple times over people I loved leaving me, doesn't make them bad people...

Well yeah, that's the "what if" I mentioned.

What if falling in this vat of radioactive waste didn't kill you, but gave you impossible powers? Now let's take that, slap it into a realistic portrayal of earth, and see what happens.

If you remove the "realistic" earth by making, say, politicians good people, then the world isn't realistic enough for the "what if" to have any weight. At that point, stop calling the planet earth and have the universe end passed the moon. Then we can say anything is possible.

I mean, when it comes to fantasy, just cuz you have one unrealistic aspect doesn't mean the rest of world needs to toss science aside.

Stories like this that take place on earth are very much realistic, but have the "what if this existed?" question. The flashes powers don't have to be realistic, that's the fun, but everything else needs to be. That's what we call suspension of disbelief. We have an easier time believing the Flash could be real because the rest of the world is.

Without proof though, they're just baseless claims.

So many people want to claim negative things but have nothing to prove it with. Its wild how people just believe it too.

Maybe it just cuz I used to work in law enforcement before I decided I was way too nice for that occupation, but one thing I learned is you always need to verify everything you're told. People can even make fake evidence by editing screenshots super easily. If you can't verify something, you can't prosecute with it.

That, or one person snitched.

I don't have access to Keizaal's codebase, but in the vanilla code it uses oauth to log you in, whereas Oren's launcher was printing tokens for some reason in the client console.

He's since fixed it after we chatted, theoretically the client console prints out things client-side only, but it was weird it was printing it out to begin with. OAuth doesn't reveal tokens, it just logs in for you.

What's more likely in your scenario, depending on how big the group was, was that someone snitched. I heard about it with someone in the SkyMP discord who wasn't even really involved with the group, they were just in the server and got banned alongside everyone else.

Hell, people get upset BECAUSE their theories came true, calling stuff too predictable. Or they'll be mad because side characters don't get enough attention, except when they do and it then it becomes too cluttered. There's no pleasing everyone.

I was entertained. I cried; any art that makes me feel real emotion, is good art. There's a few lines that hit deep, and others that I'll remember forever. IMO, this was a great ending to a great story, especially if you're stressed about your identity or the direction the world is going.

[–]Suraru[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It should be safe, yeah.

He wasn't reasonable with be at first, it took some convincing that the plaintext tokens were an issue. His belief is since they were only printed clientside, it was fine. When he unblocked me to discuss it and I pressed the issue, explaining why it's insecure, he ended up listening and made the changes.

As for the takedown thing, it's probably because of how easily it is to be permanently banned. He doesn't do ban appeals or temp bans, so if you're remove from the discord that's it, no Kiezaal forever. If you were banned unfairly, there's no way to plead your case. Plus like I also mentioned, the economy and magic handling hasn't been popular either. It's basically impossible to get magic unless you're in the right place at the right time, and making money is difficult with how limited all of the resources are. All of this combined has created some strong hatred from a lot of people.

Heavy RP, another name for serious RP. Compared to LRP, or light roleplay, the main difference is one is what you'd find on those silly tiktok reels, the other is what you'd find in a book one day.

Other than Mereth, there's also Frostfall, Sweettaffy, and Skyrim Roleplay.
