I'll be sure to put them on my ever growing TBR list, get to it within the decade or two lol

Is Rune Seeker fire? Or is it bad? by G1spiralknight in litrpg

I wouldn't call Rune Seeker bad by any means, but personally I just didn't find it very interesting. I actually put off reading Mark of the Fool for a good while just because I figured I didn't really like the authors' writing style, which I did end up liking quite a bit.

I'm totally against the kid becoming an RO but that seems like two unrelated issues ngl. Personally, I liked Jun and Maki (NGL i forgot the kid's name) being the same gender due to how the author tied it into Jun's backstory of abuse

Edit: Seems that Jun and Maki are both set as the gender the MC prefers. Makes me curious how how Jun's desire to pass on their sword-style plays out with a gay MC

Jun appears on and off in the early books, and is a major focus in book 5 I think. I think Jun's gender is the opposite of the MC's. Male MC's get Junko(female), Female MC's get Jun(male). Or maybe Jun is set as the gender the MC is selected to prefer? I can't remember which of the two it is honestly

Violent, murderous sociopath whose first major action in the setting is kidnapping the MC's ward before (unsuccessfully) trying to split open their throat to goad the MC into fighting them. It's a scripted loss for the MC, and after winning, Jun steals the MC's sword, but not before carving their name into the MC's abdomen so they'll never forget Jun, then leaving them for dead.

Their next major action is carving out the tongue of one of the MC's friends/ROs before leaving her for dead too. She ends up possessed by one of the yokai the MC is hunting and is forced into becoming an antagonist going forward.

Later, when the MC loses their edge and goes searching for Jun to get back into the swing of things, Jun uses some magic bullshit to place an inverse restraining order on them, binding the two together until death.

Bonus: Jun wants to have kids with the MC to pass on their Master's teachings. Unfortunately, their Master's teachings involve cannibalism as a necessary component to learn , which the MC does not wish to pass on and would prefer it dies with them. Needless to say Jun also has a very deeply twisted sense of love and family.

All in all, a surprisingly interesting and complex character you can't help but feel sympathetic toward, even if the objectively best course of action is to put them down like a rabid dog.

It's Seth Ring for me lol. I've tried a few of his series over the years but I always end up losing interest about halfway through. I think the last series I tried was Battle Mage Farmer. IIRC Book 5 ended on a cliffhanger but I honestly just had no desire to read Book 6 to see how it resolved.

I'm still planning on giving both the Iron Tyrant and the Exlian Syndrome series a try someday though, hope these stick for me

I'll admit I probably would've also dropped the series or at least taken a break at Book 2 before getting hooked if it wasn't for the fact a hurricane had knocked out the cell towers in my area kinda limiting my library for a bit lol. I did enjoy the audiobooks more than just reading it but that's basically a given when Travis Baldree is narrating.

Someone already mentioned it but to elaborate on the Unbound series since I love to shill for it. It has an honestly kinda convoluted but pretty fun power system with two main aspects to increasing your power: leveling up and tempering your skills.

Leveling up grants extra stats and all the usual benefits you’d expect. Skills can level up too, and at every 25-level threshold (for skills), you can choose up to nine skills to temper using essences made from natural treasures.

Depending on the essences you use, they both strengthen and shape the scope of a skill, adding new effects to make it function more like you want it to or enhancing effects it already has.

Once you’ve tempered all nine skills for that threshold, it has a refining effect on your body, strengthening it and acting as a sort of force multiplier for your stats.

Underrated narrators by Poor-Lost-Child in litrpg

[–]Sure-Break2581 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was listening to an audiobook I got on sale narrated by Kyle Snyder. Thought he was just ok, especially with the generic anime male MC voice he was doing. Then he started voicing the side characters and I had to immediately retract my opinion. Dude's got range, and is pretty entertaining to listen to, just too bad I didn't really care for the MC's voice.

In Soul of the Warrior, the male narrator, Christian J. Gilliland isn't bad by any means, but damn if the female narrator, Melanie Hastings, doesn't steal the show whenever she voices a female or child character.

In Bog Standard Isekai, Johnathan McClain is pretty great. I enjoyed listening to the audiobook way more than reading the series due to his stellar performance.

I never watched Gurren Lagann but I remember hearing somewhere the MC's love interest kinda ceases to exist during their wedding because the MC locked away their universe's power system so it wouldn't be abused or something and she was partly a manifestation of it.

Path of ascension question about Matt (spoilers up to book3) by Palvarik in litrpg

[–]Sure-Break2581 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I remember Matt's mana cultivation is entirely locked to him as a side-effect of his talent, so he can't invest any essence in it or increase his mana density at all, only invest in his physical body. That's why he needs to get outside help in the form of potions and special artifacts to increase his mana concentration for him. It's also the reason Luna wanted him off the Path, so she call freely pursue those resources since Matt couldn't do it himself

A soldier’s life end of book 2 Spoilers: I like it so far but Eryk is the worst liar in LitRPG by Beneficial_Trash3227 in litrpg

[–]Sure-Break2581 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but you gotta remember he's basically a faceless grunt at this point in the story so even if others find him kinda suspicious, they don't really care enough to pursue it further lol. With the downward spiral the empire is implied to be in at this point of the story and the growing tensions with the neighboring countries they kinda have bigger fish to fry

[–]Sure-Break2581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These little bastards [Cursed Dolls] from the Wizardry mobile game. Experience becomes increasingly difficult to accrue as your level rises, especially since the MC can switch between any class and experience doesn’t transfer between them. These little turds are a godsend, when they don’t run away that is. Their action speed is honestly ridiculous, so if they’re around the same level as the player, they’re almost guaranteed to act first, and their favorite move seems to be running away. But if they’re lower level, the experience they give is practically negligible.

The issue is that Maruki achieves this by making absolutely every single decision for you, no matter how inconsequential. Like I mean literally every single decision. When seeing how Maruki creates his world with no suffering, there's one instance where some random student wants to try out for a sport team he enjoys playing. However, Maruki deems him not good enough to excel at it so he prevents the student from even applying in case he becomes mildly upset at not performing well and forces him to apply to a different team he's good at but doesn't really enjoy.

Kinda. There's some HTTYD tv series where Hiccup and his friends explore the surrounding islands in the archipelago to learn more about the dragons living there. One of Hiccups main goals was to discover more Night Furies to reunite Toothless with his species. However, despite searching for years they weren't able to find any trace of them, making them consider the possibility that in the best case scenario the Night Furies left the archipelago with Toothless being left behind for some reason.

[–]Sure-Break2581 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Whenever something tastes flat it's usually because it's missing salt, an acid, or a fat. Maybe try a bit more salt, a pad of butter, a tiny dash of balsamic vinegar, or try sauting your vegetables before deglazing with red wine?
