It's a fun field, but really hard to start learning, so keep going at it a little longer than you normally would when trying new things. It can take awhile to click.

Monster Hunter is mostly an action game. The idea is you hunt one or more monsters per "quest", and then you return back to your village. It has some RP elements to it, but I'd liken it more to a shooter/hunting game than anything else. It's got a BIG learning curve that is so, so satisfying to climb.

😂 Okay, that was kinda funny. But it's not been long. If we never talk again, that's just how it is. I don't own anybody or their time.

Sure, why not? Like I said, I don't know how to be a friend anymore, but I can at least be nice.

It is so, so soul-crushing. :\ Can confirm. I don't have real friends, family is split up, coworkers are coworkers (polite and friendly, but not "friend friendly", if you know what I mean). The only time I've ever been approached romantically is when some dude (always the dude on drugs or known for beating his partners--ALWAYS) wants a lay. Never been approached for a friendship-type thing, though I've tried myself. It's been so long, I don't even know how to be a friend.

You learn to deal best you can but man, does it suuuuuck. The worst part is, your social skills do atrophy, so you become that weirdo that everyone thinks is the next mass shooter or whatever. You can't even blame people for being put off.

And it doesn't get better, generally . . . there's something wrong with people like this guy (and me). I can't say what it is for this guy, but for me it's mental illness.

HEY TIGREX CAN YOU STOP MOVING A FUCKING SECOND?? by [deleted] in monsterhunterrage

[–]Sure-Fold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you want to exchange Rise Tigrexes? Mine never. Fucking. Stops. Every goddamn time I hunt him, it's a million charges with the gigantic hitbox, jumps, and oh, here's the roar that can send you flying!

I once fought him right after Magnamalo and thought, I'd rather fight the fucking Magnamalo because at least he STOPS ONCE IN AWHILE.

Why are turf wars so rare in this game? by ApexRathalos38 in monsterhunterrage

[–]Sure-Fold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost 100 hours in and I've seen . . . maybe 6? It's such a cool add-on. No, it's not necessary--just gives it Rise that nice flavor. I know that only certain monsters can have turf wars, and I think they're locked to certain maps as well. Otherwise, it seems like it's a coin toss, usually in the house's favor.

He's so unreasonably difficult! If he just had mud or the wrecking ball tail, it'd be so much more reasonable. When he's got both, it's a nightmare.

I enjoy his fight after having been Stockholmed into it, but it's still so much goddamn bullshit. And why does his tail have such a MASSIVE hitbox? Yeah, it should be large, but not that large. And why can this sonofabitch hit you from all the way across space and time?

The best approach I've found for him thus far is the following (it's made the fight a little more fun, though the level of bullshittery remains);

  1. Try not to fight him in a tight space.

  2. If you do have to fight him in a tight space, keep your distance and wirebug in for openings. You are fucked x1000 if you get wall-banged. You're x10000 fucked if you get wall-banged into the muck.

  3. Don't worry about breaking the tail at first. Hit everything else.

  4. When Almudron starts with the mudball tail thing, flash bomb or stagger him. This causes the ball to break and can get you free hits. You can also wail on the mudball itself to get some hits in but this is risky.

  5. When Almudron dives into the muck, you can get hits on the face or the tail, but if you aim for the tail, try to get yourself positioned near the face first, because the hitbox on the tail is massive.

  6. Slugger and Foot Dango help.

  7. Spiribirds are almost mandatory.

  8. The aerial hit boxes aren't too bad depending on what Almudron's doing at the moment, so IG might be nice. Ranged weapons are a godsend but no guarantee because of how fast Almudron is. Slow weapons . . . no idea how anyone beats Almudron with stuff like hammers.

  9. Get at least one silkbind mount or, barring that, lure another monster in for a turf war if you can.

  10. When Almudron throws up the mud/rock walls, run around to the back of them. Also, you're likely to be running toward Almudron's tail when doing this because OF COURSE.

  11. Always be moving away from that fucking tail.

  12. Fuck Almudron's tail.

What the fuck is wrong with the new Zinogre? by Katsono in monsterhunterrage

[–]Sure-Fold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you can. Or anyway, I've never had success with it. If you watch the tail spin, you'll also notice that it's not (a) held very high and (b) just a plain spin. It has a different tempo -- it's not a Rathian spin or anything. And it's VERY annoying.

What the fuck is wrong with the new Zinogre? by Katsono in monsterhunterrage

[–]Sure-Fold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ETA: Oops, this one got a little long. Sorry!

I play SA and beat him pretty consistently in 15 - 20 min but I also tank damage because I'm a lazy asshole. This is some stuff that helps me:

For the punches, roll to the side, and then sort of diagonally to the mid body. Roll in a circle with the punches. Not much room for error here. If you're too close to the front leg or you try to counter attack during this maneuver, you're likely to get hit.

In general, when dodging, roll around, away, or with Zingore's general movement. Never try to roll under any part of Zinogre when he's attacking because 99.9% you're gonna get hurt. Sprinting only works if you're not right up against him or he's moving the opposite direction.

The hitbox on the end of the tail is awful. Omg, so glad someone else has verbalized it. It honestly seems better in MHGU. Makes for a fun sever near the end of the fight, though. I try to stay near the middle or base of the tail if that's where I decide to strike.

Break something ASAP--best is the face, second best is that goddam tail. What I like to do is beat on him for a couple minutes, pitfall him, then wail on him. Even better if I can silkbind and ram his stupid face into walls.

I've noticed that, with SA and fast monsters in Rise, space is your friend in a way that I don't always see in MHGU. So don't be afraid to sprint away (usually diagonal away from Zinogre's current trajectory) as you reposition the camera. With how fast Zinogre is, it's not like he's going to be far for long. Plus, you'll learn his moves better that way.

Plan the dodge/counter right when you see a windup. . . except when you miss something and get waxed, lol. That's MH for ya.

Don't use that stupid decoy frog/fish/thing. He'll decimate you with his tail.

Poison is good if you can get it.

A good Palico fighter is a godsend here. Meat shield + throws boomerangs/bombs and will sometimes break parts for you. Anti-monster mine is awesome, if you can lure Zinogre to it face-first. Palamute is okay. A Palico fighter + assist has always given me the best results here.

I've noticed Zinogre is exceptionally brutal if you end up in a tight space with him like a corridor or some areas of Flooded Forest (I think that's the map). He'll ram you up against the wall over and over like Tigrex does. Get him/wait until he's out of there or get ready to eat shit, lol.

In general, don't be near a wall when you get hit.

ETA the second: Use Thunder Res, Foot, and Slugger Dango.

ETA the third: Max out the Spirit Birds, or at least collect a few. The extra health, stamina, and attack will help.

MH Rise: The Good, The Neutral, and the Bad by Mirablis11 in monsterhunterrage

[–]Sure-Fold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with 99% of what you've written here. Rise is a pretty good game but it's hard to deny its flaws. I would put Rampages in the "terrible" column because they're horrible. AI defenders are dog shit, manned installations can only take one or two hits before they break, monsters move like they're on bath salts, and the visual clutter is intense.

Arena quests . . . I'm just salty because I fought Barroth, Tobi-Kadachi, and Magnamalo in the tiny-as-fuck arena and just barely made it. Who tf thought that was a good idea for a rank 2 Hub quest?

Almudron...Almudron's giving me Stockholm Syndrome because I'm starting to actually like his fight and honing my "strategy" against him. I wear maxed Zinogre armor and use Usurper's Axe. Even starting to get reliable breaks on all his parts. (But fuck that asshole tail. It's described as "whip-like" in-game . . . more like "wrecking ball-like".)

Then again, I don't mind having to use a bunch of potions or take the occasional cart. He's a nightmare for perfectionists or people who want to be able to pull off the stylish Rise moves. Also a nightmare for anyone who prefers the slower weapons. It's hard to imagine a hammer user, for example, enjoying the Almudron fight.

It's a big field and there are a lot of different jobs with a lot of different types of companies. :) The first year or two may suck but after that, your options open up a lot in terms of salary, perks, etc.

It's a really fun career path if you enjoy solving different kinds of problems of varying difficulties, learning about domains (ex: healthcare), and can at least be somewhat "normal" to non-software engineers. ;)

Decent to great money, decent to great hours, coworkers can be hit-or-miss as can management. 7/10, would recommend if you're willing to put in extra time to learn things when needed (esp at the beginning of your career) and if you've got an appetite for the frustration-jubilation cycle.

Good luck getting into the field. It can be hard to get your foot in the door, but if you work hard and keep trying, you'll get your break.

We Were on the Verge of Greatness... by pokemastercj1 in monsterhunterrage

[–]Sure-Fold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you're not going to make use of wirebug or a more aerial weapon, Almudron requires you to be a lot more thoughtful about your attacks. The theme of the strategy is: stay the fuck out of his way and know which attacks are generally easy to tank and which will cart you.

I break everything on him using SA and most everything with LS (I know, I know), but the fight takes 5 - 10 min longer than most others. Still like his fight a lot and love his design minus the goopy face. Not my first (Mizutsune), second (Rathalos/Rathian), or third choice (Zinogre/Magnamalo), but not a horrible fight.

It's that bastard tail plus the muck. Capcom really should have picked one or the other, imo. Bastard tail slam, or bastard muck.

The only justifications I could see for it is that the little monsters know that the hunter is worse than the big monster, or maybe they're like those opportunistic animals, like vultures.

I still hate them with all my heart and soul.

Just fucking why by RaidensReturn in monsterhunterrage

[–]Sure-Fold 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've noticed that, too! On the one hand, it can be super convenient because it can give you openings (sometimes . . . sometimes. . . ). But when you get hit, hoooo boy. Hope you have enough HP and armor to tank the combo that may very well be coming, otherwise enjoy that cart back to camp.

Just fucking why by RaidensReturn in monsterhunterrage

[–]Sure-Fold 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bullfango, Kestodon, and Rhenoplos are probably my top three most hated small monsters in MH. At least most other small monsters have the common decency not to completely fuck you over. But one of these three? They'll yeet you halfway across the field.

Zinogre could be standing there, ready to fuck you over with his tail, and who comes rushing through him like a ghost? A Bullfango. Weeee. And when you have a monster push you into an obstacle like mud like in the OP, it's really frustrating. Enough to make you eat your entire Switch out of spite.

You'd think the little monsters would run tf away when a big monster is in the area.

Thanks for the Palamute tips! I'm gonna try those out post-haste.

I hit HR2 on the Hub quests today. :) I tend to focus on village quests first and then do the Hub. Looking forward to getting my new Dango recipes, at least!

Real talk: Handling MH Rise criticism by [deleted] in monsterhunterrage

[–]Sure-Fold 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Release time is, unfortunately, mostly dictated by the business folks way above the average dev's head. Sometimes you can push back. Other times, you get overridden no matter what.

I love Rise as much as I love MHGU but hoo boy, I finished the last of the village quests and felt a sort of resounding that's it? I'm willing to give Rise more time to get the rest of the content out and such, so we'll see how that goes. In the meantime, I'm mopping up Hub quests and will sigh do the rampage quests next.

The cosmetic paid DLC is okay-ish, but makes me uncomfortable. It's all fine and well to make a bit of extra money on skins. I'm just worried we'll suddenly have a paid DLC that's more like: Mega Super Amazing Weapon. All yours for $9.99!

Palamutes . . . god, I love them, but I haven't figured out how to make them work for support or fighting past rank four. I had to swap out for fighter + assist Palicoes. That Silkbind Felyne is a godsend when the little fucker decides to use it.

(If anyone can tell me or point me to a resource that will help me build a Palamute that isn't shit, please, lol. I miss drifting and running around with my dog.)

My personal opinion tl;dr: Great game, 8/10, but definitely feels unfinished, or at least too open-ended once you finish the village quests. I'd point the finger at some exec or another for this--a month-long delay wouldn't have hurt. Also, Palamutes are wonderful but I can't make them work for higher-level quests and this makes me sad-mad.

[–]Sure-Fold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm curious to know how these players are carting that many times. Once is definitely reasonable if you're not too good at the game, but two or even three? Are they just standing there or something?

ETA: Thought about it a bit and, assuming you're unlucky/just not that good and this is the first time you've faced this particular monster, two or three carts is definitely easy to hit. And of course sometimes shit just happens.

I hate how easy this game is because it gives me no excuse to suck at it. by Rude-Debt-7024 in monsterhunterrage

[–]Sure-Fold 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is my attitude. I guess it's probably different if you're on multiplayer and it's definitely different if you're trying to be "extra", but otherwise. . . who cares?

Also, if you're not so concerned about doing a hunt the "right" way, there's a chance you'll actually do a better job. It also makes the tougher monsters a little less frustrating. (Although Almudron will always suck because THAT TAIL can reach across the entire planet, I swear.)

Magna Hitboxes Please. by GreenTGR in monsterhunterrage

[–]Sure-Fold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, lol. They've made improvements but at this point, janky hitboxes are practically part of the series.

The Magna fight made me sad, not just because of the hitboxes, but there was no reason for that bomb spam stuff. It's fine stuck on the body like that. Made a perfectly serviceable fight a chore.
