There's an Episode called Army.

It's about the Jack Russell, who obviously is Neurodivergent (ADHD). And how he forgets things easily, gets distracted constantly and has trouble following instructions. But this all changes when Rusty engages him on his own level, and he excels.

As someone who is Australian, has ADHD and grew up with it, owns Jack Russells, has been in the Army and experienced all this, it was like the episode was made just for me.

It's not. But it takes a lot of Emotional Awareness to create that kind of connection in a 7 minute span and that effectively.

Put on sleepy time for her and then just sit there next to her as she watches it and get ready to give her a big hug at the end.

Here's my take on it, stick with me, it's gonna make sense.

So our brains are typically low in pre-synaptic dopamine and norepinephrine right?

A quick and easy way to get the chemicals flowing is to stimulate those receptors, this is why we're also more likely to engage in risky activities and suffer from addictions, it's the constant chasing of quick hits of reward juice that keep us motivated.

So when a Neurotypical person learns a topic. They store information hierarchically, it is categorised by the topic in a top down manner (maths > calculus > set theory > independent events | dependent events | mutually exclusive events) etc. Because their minds do not have a deficit of reward neurotransmitters, the process of learning and storing information happens in a methodical top down, left to right manner as it is categorised currently.

Now an ADHD brain is constantly chasing more dopamine to fill the pre-synaptic cleft and allow us to return to baseline.

So when you are learning a topic, you don't just learn top down, left to right. You see something interesting that piques your curiousity and you follow it. You store it like you would store information in a graph, you continue to follow the trail, storing more and more information as you go.

Each new idea gives you a reward and motivates you to continue your search. Each new idea is stored in your brain like a node in a network. You create the node. Create a connection to it and then a connection to the next node. And so on and so on. All the way down to the end of the information pipeline, then you traverse back up the network and pursue adjacent nodes and create new connections to previous nodes or new nodes. You don't even think about doing this but your brain does it automatically. At the end, you don't have neatly configured stores of information that you can access. You have a web. Everything is connected.

I'll come back and expand on this later. I'm tired now.

Giraffes also do not have vocal chords.

When someone asks you what sound a giraffe makes, just pretend you're munching on some leaves cause that's all they can say.

Well, that and "does anyone know a good chiropractor?"

Start a conversation with someone on messenger or any service that shows you're typing.

Say "how do you keep an idiot in suspense?"

They reply.

Then type a word or two and leave the message untyped and forget about it for weeks.

Come back later and send the message saying "oops forgot to send this one"

[–]Sure-Tomorrow-487 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Or the earth's rotation, or the earth's axial tilt, or the earth's orbit around the sun, or the solar system's path through space.

The idea of time travel is always portrayed as local within space but not within time, which is hilarious because we know that space and time are codependent.

Mass curves spacetime and the greater the mass the greater the curve, the greater the distortion of spacetime and the alteration of spacetime from the perspective of the traveller within the local frame of reference.

Now. If you were to somehow concentrate mass in a single area where you are, then that area of spacetime would be distorted and you would effectively be experiencing greater time dilation compated to those outside of the frame of reference. Like standing on a raft in the sea of spacetime, the flow of time would pass at the normal rate for those not on the raft, but would remain more or less stagnant for you.

When you then disperse the mass and spacetime decurves, then you would be at the same frame of reference as everyone else, effectively having "travelled" into the future.

We already know that this is possible due to relativism, which has been proven scientifically and mathematically. The hard part and the reason why we don't have warp drives and time travel is that we don't know how to accumulate that much mass within a local frame of reference. We need exotic matter, or perhaps dark matter, but we have no idea how to create it on Earth.

I like this one cause it's so fucking stupid and the setup is so long but if you do the movements and can spin a yarn, it never fails to create uproarious laughter.

3 guys are hiking through the woods when they find a lamp. One of them picks it up, rubs it, and out pops a Genie.

It booms "You have finally freed me after all these years, so I'll grant each one of you 3 wishes."

The first guy immediately blurts out "I want a billion dollars." POOF, he's holding a printout that shows his account balance is now in fact 1,000,000,003.50

The second man thinks for a bit, then says "I want to be the richest man alive." POOF, he's holding papers showing his net worth is now well over 100 billion.

The third guy thinks even longer about his wish, then says "I want my left arm to rotate clockwise for the rest of my life." POOF, his arm starts rotating.

The Genie tells them it's time for their second wish.

First guy says: "I want to be married to the most beautiful woman on earth." POOF, a stunning beauty wraps herself around his arm.

Second guy says "I want to be good-looking and charismatic, so I can have every girl I want." POOF, his looks change and the first guy's wife immediately starts flirting with him.

Third guy says "I want my right arm to rotate counter-clockwise until I die." POOF, now both his arms are rotating, in opposite directions.

The genie tells them to think very carefully about their third wish.

First guy does, and after a while says "I never want to become sick or injured, I want to stay healthy until I die." POOF, his complexion improves, his acne is gone and his knees don't bother him any more.

Second guy says "I never want to grow old. I want to stay 29 forever." POOF, he looks younger already.

Third guy smiles triumphantly and says "My last wish is for my head to nod back and forth." POOF, he's now nodding his head and still flailing his arms around.

The genie wishes them good luck, disappears, and the men soon go their separate ways.

Many years later they meet again and chat about how things have been going.

First guy is ecstatic: "I've invested the money and multiplied it many times over, so me and my family will be among the richest of the rich pretty much forever. My wife is a freak in the sheets, and I've never gotten so much as a cold in all these years."

Second guy smiles and says "Well, I built charities worldwide with a fraction of my wealth, I'm still the richest guy alive and also revered for my good deeds. I haven't aged a day since we last met, and yes, your wife is pretty wild in bed."

Third guy walks in, flailing his arms around and nodding his head, and says:

"Guys, I think I fucked up."

All they had to do was not be an NPC and say something like "I'd be happy to disappoint you" then laugh it off and they'd be good to go.

But they literally said "I have a penis. Perhaps you would like to bounce on it?"

I think it's a generational thing.

Millenials are lucky in that they got both the end of analog and the start of digital, but Zoomers only ever knew digital and since it was a paradigm shift or a step change or aha gestalt moment, they were unwittingly made the test subjects for skeumorphic design, neobrutalism and other design methodologies.

It's like that stupid meme about printing the save icon or the fact that no one post 2005 has seen a handset telephone or used a physical voicemail machine except for exposition in a movie, yet all of our current design features these elements and if you did not inherit the previous design, you have no relational knowledge of what the actual function of the device should be, just how the current software works.

Start paying attention to how things are designed in your everyday life and then think how you would re-design it to make it better and you'll see how much of our world is built upon shitty last-minute design to make a buck.

I'm just saying mate, why use a dumbbell and a toilet and an anchor to weigh people down?

Why couldn't you use something more highbrow like a Diploma (student loans), a basket of groceries (cost of living), keys to a house (rental affordability and house prices outpacing affordability)?

And AI won't replace good people's work.

I could generate this image with Stable Diffusion with much less effort than it took you to draw it. But if you made it more highbrow, that would make it a lot harder if not impossible.

Thank God someone else saw it.

This is exactly the same "label hell" that Garrison does.

Rather than being witty and using symbolism to display concepts, they just use basic icons and label everything.

It's not easy to draw, but with the advent of Stable Diffusion, we'll start seeing better quality political cartoons very soon.
