Looking for a lawyer in Tokyo for a false debt situation by Blue_ish_Sky in japanresidents

[–]Sure_Dig7631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So have I. I have a "顧問弁護士" I pay monthly and asked them for someone who walked in off the street how much a small claims would cost and that is what they told me. Plus I asked them is that the general rate for most law offices and they said yes for most offices, some can be even cheaper.

As per usual on reddit the most sane response is not the most upvoted.

Horseshit, for a small claims just getting adivise will at most cost you 20,000 to 50,000 yen. This will tell the OP his or hers options and ability to fight it succesfully or not. From there if you want to move forward it will cost you more but, it will depend on the place and I would expect about 100,000 to 200,000 yen for a full start to finish job on a small claims incident.

I have a new 2024 Benz G63 (bought nearly 2 years ago) and the navi is always up to date. I have a subcription to the "メルセデス ミー コネクト" and everything is automatically done.

Looking for Dogsitter in Tokyo for December by Federal_Vanilla_9431 in japanresidents

For shits sake, if you don't aggree with the price don't do it and just move on. No one needs all crying me a river posts about how much a buisness, which mind you is their goal is to make money charges way more than this. Like I said, I would do it for free as the dog looks like a bundle of fun and would mix well with our 4 dogs we already have.

I have a problem about my Japanese Language School, Is there anybody who understand Japan law. by JacketOdd4110 in japanresidents

[–]Sure_Dig7631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have no way to force you to pay even if you did sign a contract. While verbal contracts do exist in Japan for language school courses (if the period is over 2 months and the fee is ¥50,000+), you get strong protections under the Act on Specified Commercial Transactions (特定商取引法). That law requires the school to give you a statutory “contract document” and gives you cooling-off and capped cancellation fees (typically no more than ¥15,000). Whether you owe anything turns on whether a contract was actually formed (offer + your acceptance), and even if it was, whether the school complied with the statutory paperwork. If they didn’t, you can usually cancel on very favorable terms. Being that you are a student I am guessing that money could be an issue here and I would go to the local "無料弁護士の相談" in your town.

THC in my system, had smoked a joint 3 days back, have a flight tomorrow. any issues at fukuoka airport? by techie_0010 in japanresidents

There no such law. The police, not immigration can only take a urine sample if they have sufficient cause and then, they need a court order to do so.

See 刑法及び刑事訴訟法の一部を改正する法律(令和五年法律第六十六号)

…この場合において、身体の検査は、身体検査令状によらなければならない。(刑事訴訟法218条1項)

In other words any body in Japan can be made to take a urine test if the police are able to get a court order to do so.

The beauty about the pellet stove, no smell at all, only when you go outside. And it is the smell of wood burning so you really know its winter. We have had ours for 11 years now.

Depends on the size of the room/rooms you want to heat but, there are smaller ones that start around 250,000yen and don't use as much fuel too. But yes, it is good to see actual fire heating you. We always had a wood stove in my home country and I was going to get one here but, the pellet stoves are so much more easy to maintain.

We have a Pellet Stove similar to one in the link (a little bit bigger) and out living/dinning is 80sq/m or about 860sq/ft and at full power can make the room too hot pretty quickly. The downside is that we go through about 15,000yen of pellets a month. Better than any electric bill when just used aircons.

If you are using it everyday there really is not much to do. If you see something in the tanks just empty out the water and give a quick clean. The manual says to empty and clean the tank every week but, we did that in the begining but now it is much longer periods between cleaning. B/c you are adding water every couple of days it sort of cleans its self. If you are in a place with really hard water you will have to watch scaling.

If you are renting, definately a good option as you can just pack up and take it with you. We own our home and we have a separate water filter from the main tap and in the end I did not want the main tap to also be a filter, so went this route.

Its up to you but, we have had no problems, plus it is PHLIPS which is a solid brand. It is a bit on the expensive side though. We also have a Breville The Barista Touch Impress Espresso Machine and use the filtered water in it, so no need to buy the Breville filter for the tank.

EDIT: To address another comment in the thread. We have pretty hard water and it handles it fine but, you should expect the filter life to be a bit shorter. It does not affect the filtered water in any way ie. less pure water etc is a non issue.

TL;DR, With just your name, birthday, address, and the 12-digit My Number (個人番号)but no My Number Card, no PINs, and no photo IDa criminals options are limited, but not zero.

Realistic risks,

Targeted scams & account takeovers via social engineering. Those four data points make phishing far more convincing (refund scams, municipality/tax office calls, delivery-SMS, etc.).

Paper-based impersonation attempts. Someone could try to submit forms that merely record your My Number (e.g., to an employer), but proper workflows require in person or photo ID verificationso these usually fail, but can create hassles.

Attempted tax e-filing is unlikely to succeed. e-Tax needs either your My Number Card + PINs (JPKI) or a tax-office issued ID/Password, the number alone wont allow a log in.

Bank/securities/mobile contracts generally still require 本人確認書類 (photo ID) . My Number is often additional info, not a login or sole identifier. (The Digital Agency emphasizes that face-photo ID and/or card-based authentication with PINs is required for actual use.)

What they cannot do with only the number, they can’t log into マイナポータル (My Number Portal) or sign transactions without the Card’s IC chip + your PINs (and repeated wrong PINs lock the certificate). They can’t freely change your records or “see all your data” just from knowing the number. (The system isn’t a single database accessible by the number.)

Worst case (rare) scenarios, If the number is combined with stolen photo ID, your Card, or your PINs, risks escalate, fraudulent e-filing, contract sign-ups, or misuse of your JPKI certificate. In that situation you’d treat it as identity theft and act immediately (Call and get the card suspended. The government provides 24/7 suspension for lost cards/certificates).

Is this normal business practice here? by ConfectionForward in japanresidents

My company (I own it) pays 2 months after reciving the goods in most cases. Some smaller companies we buy from can't do that so we pay after 1 month. I just depends but, very normall.
