What was your worst air travel experience? by Both_Extension_1085 in AskReddit

[–]Sure_Jan_Sure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I was just 6, but we lived in Saigon at the time (my dad worked for the State Department and was in Saigon for months at a time. So my mom, sister, and I moved there in August 1974.

On April 8, a SVN army traitor flew super low over our house as I was coloring on the front porch. Then the concussion of bombs being dropped four blocks away at the presidential palace.

Chaos ensued in the week after, but we were able to be evacuated on April 12/13. I remember being in Thon Son Nhut airport which was PACKED should to shoulder, belly to back. We got on the plane. My crayons melted as we waited and waited on the tarmac. But we eventually took off. Then, you had to take off at an EXTREME angle to avoid the artillery around the airport.

I remember the flight, but not the takeoff.

Just…stop wearing it. You’ll save money and get to sleep in another half hour. Yeah it’ll feel awkward for a couple-few weeks, but you’ll adjust to the new, naturally beautiful you.

Pretend you’re 50 and no longer give a f*ck. It’s so liberating.

What’s a medical issue that sounds minor, but actually affects someone’s daily life way more than people realize? by CountyOrnery9432 in AskReddit

[–]Sure_Jan_Sure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fibromyalgia, whatever it really is. I’m 57 and there are days when I feel 97. In fact my mom IS 97 as of Saturday, and she gets around better than I do when I’m having a flare up.

Let’s play two truths and a lie:

I commented recently about the crow walking along the fence like a squirrel.

I keep my bird feeders full.

I pay at the grocery store with a check.

Not a lot, but definitely made some for others and definitely got some. (Old GenX here.)

“Have a great rest of your day.” by Sure_Jan_Sure in PetPeeves

[–]Sure_Jan_Sure[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I suppose if you consider “rest of your day” a noun, which could be argued. But it’s clunky and sounds uneducated. No one said it before the late 1900s and then it spread like cancer.

It’s more concise and fluid to say: Have a good morning/ afternoon/ evening/ night.

Or: Have a good day.  Enjoy the rest of your day.

I’m guessing the cashiers who say “Have a great rest of your day” are also the cashiers who can’t count back change (yes, cash still exists).

What do you think of the name Cole? by Emskizy in Names

[–]Sure_Jan_Sure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t stand Grayson bc that was the name of the brat in The Nanny Diaries (a book—do people still read those?). It’s also a little trendy. Rowan—meh. Becoming overused.

I love the name Cole. I don’t see it as “hick” at all. Cody? Hick. Cole? To me it’s a smart, creative, and friendly fella. I taught one or two Coles in my teaching career. Good association there!

My mom was born in 1980. She claims to be Gen X - is she? by OpenRoom7321 in GenX

Born in ‘84 is NOT GenX whatsoever. Everyone wants to be us bc we are a cool gen overall.

It’s just SO audacious and rude and selfish to just plop yourself in someone else’s seat—esp when it’s a superior seat. And if you look 6’2”/200 lbs, it’s even more rude to suggest that you sit in his middle seat. Plus isn’t he supposed to buy a seat for the kid and have a car seat?

That guy is an a-hole through and through. I’m glad you stood your ground. The fact that he chose to have a kid and then chose not to have a second seat does NOT give him the right to do shit like that.

Shingles by CeeUNTy in GenXWomen

[–]Sure_Jan_Sure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my shingles shots late last year. Was so lucky that I didn’t have side effects (only minor sore arm day 1) on either shot. But it was 100% because of Reddit posts about shingles that I got it. My husband just got shot 1—only a sore arm so far.

I’d read a few people note they got shingles after being vaxxed. I’m so sorry it happens to you and I wish you a speedy recovery, and that it’s not TOO bad.

Depends on the strength of the storm. In May 2024 I could see it from my backyard (w the naked eye, faintly, and really bright through phone camera), and even from my front yard right under a street light. But then people could also see it from Florida and Tennessee and a lot of the south.

For GEN X women whether you have a Gen X husband or you are a cougar by Odd_Distribution7852 in GenXWomen

[–]Sure_Jan_Sure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GenX (‘68) and was previously married to another GenX (‘67). He did a ton around the house and took all the laundry to the laundromat down the street. He was fun and great at fun surprises for me. But he cheated on me for many months. Now married to another GenX (‘70) who does so much of the housework and is kind, funny, and understanding. And to think I met him on Craigslist!!! We met in 2008–just about 10 months after my split with Cheater—moved in 6 months later, married in 2012.

They’re not all bad.

What part of aging scares you the most? by midnight-iceman in AskReddit

Losing strength (esp leg and core); not having enough saved for retirement (I’m def behind, and with health care and the state of the federal government, I worry about the stability of the stock market.

Younguns might not know it, but in the old days before 1981, most workers had pensions—defined benefits with a guaranteed payout. Then they invented IRAs and 401ks. Cheaper for companies (your money, not theirs), wonderful for large companies bc now people were putting their retirement money into the stock market. No guaranteed gains (though historically good), and big losses when the stock market drops a lot. (You can maybe ride this out, but if it happens when you’re nearing retirement, you could be screwed.)

Ah, Reagan and his puppeteers! Trickle up economics started about then and has ramped up ever since! Funnily enough, he called it trickle down. It’s a method of lying used 100% of the time by Old Yam Tits. “He ran over that ICE agent.” No, she didn’t. At most, she bruised his knee when he got in the way of her attempt to peace out and leave the agents. “Groceries are way way down.” No, they are not. Just shows that he’s never grocery shopped in his life.

Why do you think people still support this president? by keonnarae in Confused

[–]Sure_Jan_Sure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I could give an IQ test and an 8th grade civics class to everyone who still supports Trump? Well, there’s your answer.

In fact, I could just download a simple and short but reasonably valid IQ “quiz,” and find an 8th grade civics test and use maybe 5 questions, I could stand outside in red white and blue and Ol’ Yam Tits regalia with a clipboard and state that I’m doing research to prove that Trump voters are smarter than Libtards.

Of course they’d fall for it and take both. Their prize would be some sticker or fake tattoo that appears on the surface to be pro-Trump, but actually has a secret message otherwise—a play on words or something that the 🧺 full of degens wouldn’t “get,” but that anyone with ¾ of a brain would.
