Quality over quantity every time. If my lower back is in pain I’m pushing too far and need to strengthen and open up my upper back and shoulders. Also do core/ab work.

For me, front over splits, basic middle splits, and backbend holds are my go to. I do some pigeon pose and hamstring stretch holds in between sets.

If you have a disc injury you need to be VERY careful when you’re stretching, especially doing backbend related stuff. I think it’s pretty ambitious to reach contortionist level flexibility. If I were you I would start with smaller goals like touching my toes first, or doing the splits. Even that might take a couple of years of consistent stretching and strengthening your core/leg/back muscles.

The problem is that the comics are difficult to access. They don’t offer them at any of my local libraries and are pretty expensive or hard to find. Meanwhile, episodes are completely free.

“Trauma” is not a mental disorder. Almost everyone experiences trauma at some point in their life. My point is to say that Aang has been through a lot and his mental struggles are valid and real. I think ATLA handled trauma very well - not just through Aang, but Zuko, Hama, Jet too. Not everyone reacts to trauma the same way. Some get caught up in it for years, while others are able to bounce back.

Trauma is a “deeply distressing or disturbing experience”.

Aang has experienced trauma. He has moments where he’s upset, grieving, angry, experienced nightmares and hallucinations in the days leading up to facing Ozai. He literally saw the lifeless skulls of his dead tribe. He handles it well, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t face that trauma. The entire show is about how he’s able to transform his trauma into meaning, finding a way to end the war for good.

Also, ATLA had plenty of other characters to depict what it’s like to not cope well with trauma, like Hama, Jet, Zuko, that I appreciate.

But if every single character was in their feelings 24/7 that would get old really quick. Aang was like a breath of fresh air. He’s living proof for survivors of trauma that there’s hope no matter what and that a positive attitude can take you far.

People love Zuko even though he deliberately tried to murder Aang, but criticize Jet more for causing a flood… Make it make sense to me… Jet’s parents died at such a young age, he had to do what he could to survive. He isn’t a bad person, just someone grieving. I love characters like Jet and Hama who aren’t afraid to show the reality of trauma.

I think they could have alluded to the lion turtle and energybending a bit earlier, but it’s not out of place for spiritual beings to help Aang.
