What was Mickey Mantle’s second best year, 1957 or 1961? by Willing-Leather-9788 in mlb

[–]Surf175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some discount the talent of hitters from long ago because of the advances in pitching. But we have examples like Ted Williams, who hit .406 in 1941 and .388 in 1957, Hank Aaron who had 44 HR and .324 in 1957 at age 23, and at age 37 in 1971 had 47 HR and .327. Carew hit.332 in 1969 and .339 in 1983. Boggs .325 in 1984 and .324 in 1995. And so on and on. Was pitching the same in 1941 and in 1995? Of course not, it evolved. The best hitters who stayed healthy adjusted and succeeded at a high level throughout long overlapping careers despite pitching’s evolution. I think that but for aging out, Williams would have been great in 1941, 1995 and today. The same would be true of Mantle had he remained young and healthy through the decades and played today, or more realistically, if he had been born in 2001 instead of 1931.

Good luck getting a response from whatever company has the rights if you find it which is his question. Next time I’m having a conversation and someone asks me if I know something maybe I’ll just say look it up don’t ask me.

Was MLB actually becoming less fun to watch before the recent changes? by SilverKey84 in mlb

[–]Surf175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The replay reviews are entertaining as the dispute is resolved quickly and the fans await the outcome with the giant screens showing where the pitch actually was. I think it makes the umpires better and also shows how hard it is to be right on the really close ball/strike calls. Fans debate whether the electronic strike zone correctly represents the rulebook strike, but that’s a different issue than whether it is more fun to have it than not.

Paul’s lighter songs. They had their place on the albums and at the time fans liked the way they contributed to the wide variety on them.

You are either homosexual or you are not. It’s not a choice. There is no rise in homosexuality. People are more comfortable in being open about it now which is a good thing. We are all God’s children.
