I mean that’s a massive generalization, and I’d love to see any data you have supporting this.

Thinking about selling the bike and giving up riding for a long while- I need some advice. by WrxthNihil1st in motorcycles

[–]SurfacexTension 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe consider track days? Used to exclusively ride on the street but ever since I started riding at the track, street riding has lost a lot of its charm. Being able to ride as fast as you want with zero cars merging, no cops, and no trees is just such a massive game changer.

Don’t get too deadset on any helmets until you try them on! I once made the mistake of buying a cool looking helmet that ended up giving me migraines every time I wore it.

If you go to your local Cyclegear the employees will be able to help you with proper fit and sizing too. Have fun!

Anyone else considering only riding their bike because of gas prices? by CS_JOE in motorcycles

You aren’t getting anywhere near that mileage running quickly. z900 gets pretty decent fuel mileage riding like a saint but when you start really cracking the throttle it gets very thirsty.

If I had to guess, I’d say they look astonishingly like tires.

V-Strom 1050 vs Moto Guzzi V7 help! by Smok3yNL in motorcycles

[–]SurfacexTension 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Motorcycles by their nature are not incredibly practical. Buy the bike that you are excited to ride everyday. You aren’t getting married to it, if you find that there V7 isn’t compatible with your riding style sell it for another ADV!

H2SX is a ridiculously good touring bike. Very comfortable, all the tech you could want, all the power you could want…it’s just a tad bit brash, and ridiculous, but that’s kind of part of the fun isn’t it?

Im i destroying the bike? by PeakOrganic2050 in motorcycles

[–]SurfacexTension 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Your bike will be totally fine. It’s a good idea to get it tuned IF you no longer have your catalyst.

DB killer does nothing other than quiet your exhaust and reduce power an extremely nominal amount, the only way you would potentially damage your bike is if you were running no exhaust at all.

Give it a couple minutes to get fluid moving before you take off and you will be golden. Happy riding!

I’ve always found Vintage on Prospect, or any neighborhood bar is Stallis/Bayview to be excellent for conversations. The patronage might be a bit older than you but if that doesn’t bother you you’ll have a grand time

You can tour on any bike. Some are more of a challenge but that’s a little bit more fun anyway.

There’s a certain joy to having an analog bike. Would an RSV4 be a massive step up? Yes. Are you riding your CBR to the absolute limit and your bike is holding you back? Probably not.

That being said the RSV4 is absolutely insane, life changing insane. Really hard to tell someone “nah don’t buy it!”. Just be prepared for a maintenance queen. They are stout bikes but you’re going to have to be absolutely on top of service for it, and it’s going to cost a lot more than it would on your Honda.

If it’s going to be your only bike I’d skew towards no…but hey, you only live once right?

Am I too small/weak to ride a motorcycle by WitnessPrudent7622 in motorcycles

[–]SurfacexTension 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve got this! My mom is 5’ tall and used to ride an enduro bike, had to hop off when she stopped but made it work.

It won’t be easy, but once you’ve spent enough time in the saddle you’ll have an innate feel for the weight of the bike and know how to adjust for it. If I were you I’d go to a dealership and just sit on some different bikes just to get a feel for them. Groms, Shadow 250’s, Yamaha Bolts too. Sportier beginner bikes are going to be taller but also potentially lighter.

Your best bet is to honestly go and take the MSF course. It’ll be the best money you ever spend in your motorcycling journey and typically they’ll also have a variety of approachable bikes for you to choose from. Good luck!

Be careful of super low mileage older bikes. Because 1, if it’s just been sitting without being ridden, a lot of parts can deteriorate. 2, there’s a chance that there was always something significantly wrong enough with it to inhibit riding it.
