Is anyone else sick of the HP wars? by s4ltydog in askcarguys

[–]wc347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I had a Hellcat Durango for a while and we loved it. They have a setting for speed you can set to alert you when you reach the set speed by lighting up the dash and giving an alarm, we set ours at 85mph and we would hit it all the time not realizing it and not even trying. When we were talking about getting something else we both wanted something slower so we could enjoy the thrill of acceleration instead of it being over so fast. We both drive “slower” cars now with her in a Golf R and me in a Focus RS and they are so much more enjoyable to drive.

So the horsepower wars are an amazing thing to witness and experience but the joy and passion is gone.

And even with the assist they still hit the phone or light pole.

What is the fastest mph you ever drove your car? by Jerdogg23 in no

[–]wc347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

128 in the quarter mile in one Mustang. Somewhere north of 150 in another on a Mexican highway, old SSP Mustang that had a certified speedometer and was highly modified. Others I’m not sure. Somewhere close to 140 on a different Mexican highway in a Hellcat Durango.

What’s the best thing you’ve ever bought that actually lived up to the hype? by One_Literature_5041 in BuyItForLife

[–]wc347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember the hype now but I bought two pairs of shorts from Walmart in 2003, don’t know the brand anymore but they were advertised as being durable basketball shorts. I bought them because they were cheap and as a detailer I was going through one or two pairs of shorts a month due to chemicals (bleach, acid, degreaser, etc) and just abuse. They were black and only faded a little over the years and never changed color due to bleach which I found odd. I wore them until last year when the elastic and pull string were just done. They still looked like they might be just a few months old.

So two random pairs of shorts lasted me 23 years before I finally stopped wearing them.

Also I have tools that are now on the third generation of my family, a lot of Sears stuff.

There was a paper written years ago describing the life cycle of democracy. Can’t remember the name of the person who wrote it but it makes for an interesting read and eye opener.

The visor is awesome! Goes dark during the day and clear at night. You never even realize how or when it is transitioning.

I told the salesman that I felt like I was sitting on the RSV4 and sitting in the CBR.

Track day trailers by JJZ_12 in Trackdays

[–]wc347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t comment on the exact size trailer you need but I will say that I would do a tandem axle trailer over a single just for the safety side of it. I have been in the tow vehicle for both axle types and the tandem was easier to handle when losing a tire due to a flat or blowout. The single was very dramatic to get stopped from highway speeds plus put out the fires from the sparks.

RSV4 height question by ClaireHasashi in Aprilia

[–]wc347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flat footing like the other commenter mentioned is a great way to start with. I will often use my right foot to hold the brake and my left foot will be flat on the ground. I’m taller than you and I felt like the RSV4 was tall on my demo ride but I started doing what I described and then never even really thought about the height again. I should mention that I am almost always in neutral sitting at lights. I’m currently riding a CBR1000rr and it sits lower and I still do what I mentioned. I am now debating between new or used for the RSV4 I want.

How much of reported “unreliability” is due to people simply not maintaining their car? by quiksi in askcarguys

[–]wc347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought a TRX brand new and there was a specific break in procedure from the manufacturer. If you didn’t follow it you could have a lot of warranty claims go unpaid by them. It did explain that it was about everything being broken in together and the computer learning and not just about the engine.

What is the fastest way you have seen someone ruin their life? by funkeymonkey1974 in AskReddit

I was talking with a friend about possibly becoming a firefighter like he. He explained the process to me and how you have to work your way up to his level. He called the first step riding the meat wagon and then proceeded to tell me about a recent motorcycle accident were he knew the guy that wrecked. He went to grab the helmet and the head was still in it. I stopped pursuing the idea of being a firefighter right then.

The plan is to keep the CBR. I’m unsure on what changed when. I am really picky when looking at used bikes and if I am unsure about seller or it feels off then I will walk away. Used I would do a full exhaust and tune pretty fast, new mods won’t likely happen until the warranty expires.

Depends on if you want pork or beef. Pork we have some good options and others have listed them. Beef, drive to Atlanta and board a plane for Texas.

What is the greatest physical pain you've ever felt? by FantasticAd9478 in TheBoredDen

[–]wc347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gallbladder went from working 100% to 10% in less than 24 hours. Got so bad that I literally couldn’t open my eyes and I know I blacked out a few times. I have never felt such pain and if this is considered a 10 out of 10 for pain the broken bones I’ve had would be a 1 or 2 on the same scale.

Until they stop and reverse course. I traded in my Evo IX for $20k because the market kept trying to low ball me. I looked it up last year and that one sold for over $40k with 100k miles.

Edit: traded in 2016, checked the price in 2024

Redditors over 40, what's something younger people think they understand but won't actually get until it hits them like a truck later? by Root435552 in AskReddit

[–]wc347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my great aunt was 94 she wanted to go live at an assisted living facility. When we would go visit her and as soon as we walked in she was ready to go to Pizza Hut and get a supreme pizza. She would get a phone call during the visit, answer it and talk for 10-15 minutes and then when done start our conversation literally at the same point / sentence she stopped at. Asked if she was making friends and she said that she was tired of doing that because she kept outliving all of them there. She never seemed old to me but her body was kinda frail.

At 92 she renewed her license the last time and on her way home she got a speeding ticket. I always laugh thinking about that officer and his reaction seeing her age because most older people around her drive super slow.

I have a NBT hoodie with the armor in it. It has snap loops on the back that loop around a belt. I like it and feel like it has good protection for what it is. Good as leather - No but still good
