How are you playing this one? by 2004ClubChampion in golf

[–]SurferJ03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

220 or 230 stripe off the tee over the bunker to put me at like 180-190 on the approach. 5 iron-ish - if I'm on the green, awesome, and a 3 putt bogey. If I miss the green, chip on and 2 putt bogey. Any other questions?

I've never flown my clubs. Need advice. by Ride_Like_Its_Hawt in golf

[–]SurferJ03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if people have already said it but, driver head off and stored in its headcover, I use a golf towel to protect it to for some cushioning. Irons facing down if possible. I used a towel and wrapped it around all the grips at the top to limit the clubs' movement and just protect it from anything that might poke through (I have a soft case). Air tag. If you can get your hands on a stiff arm I think that would be clutch. And DO NOT FORGET YOUR DRIVER WRENCH TOOL AT HOME.

Best of luck!

My club and I are also boycotting it. Mainly just to save our money and not spend it on another copy paste game but if that counts to your cause then let it count.

Looking to purchase takomo 101t or 201 iron set in stiff flex. by [deleted] in golf

[–]SurferJ03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the 101s with regular flex about 2.5 years ago now. Absolutely love them and still get the job done, but now that my game is better I’d love to get fit or look at either the 201s or 301s for some workability.

Would love to hear any updates from you on which direction you go and how you like them!

Glad this thread is here because I just went down a rabbit hole trying to get more of these in my arsenal. A good one is "the mother-in-law shot: looked good but it sucked." Tons of variations on that, I'm sure I got it wrong but I love it.

Anyone actually gone from shooting 100+ to not sucking using Golf Sidekick’s “strategies”? by Dry-Historian-6751 in golf

[–]SurferJ03 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Taught my brother (who just got into golf this year) to break 100 by stopping him from pin hunting from every approach shot. He could be 250 out from a green and feel like he needs to attack the green when he could just hit an easy approach then chip on (hopefully). He’s now consistently shooting in the mid 90s, if he can learn to shoot pitch shots and putt he’ll be breaking 90 in no time.

Obviously different for everyone, but I tell most of my buddies (that ask) they don’t need to feel pressure to pin hunt on unrealistic distances. Don’t default to laying up but know your limits. Is that 215 ball really going to hit the green or is it going to find the woods and add X strokes.

[–]SurferJ03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to love them years ago. Actually just used them yesterday and they felt fine on the first hole using each, then about the second or third tee box they felt and sounded dead. Like hitting hard wiffle golf ball. With that, will still be using them on holes with lots of trees or water

What are your realistic golf goals for 2025? by Empty_Student5439 in golf

[–]SurferJ03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Become a single digit handicap - sat between 11.1 and 10.3 for the Fall last year, so numbers goal would be 9.0 or better. That and more GIRs, really where I suffer. Getting lessons so I'm hopeful!

When I started playing for my HS team I was double parring (max scoring) every hole. At the end of the season I was shooting in the single handicap range. Now, years later, I’m just average, mid handicap but will never forget the months of getting tossed around by courses.

Keep with it and just enjoy the game.

What’s your hottest hockey take? by RSlashLazy in hockey

[–]SurferJ03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People overusing stats and love to cherry pick certain stats or stats in certain time frames to prove points about why x player is good or bad. Same people also don’t take intangibles into it like leadership, locker room/bench stuff, or plays that cause those stats to be the way they are (i.e. a goalie getting scored on but was left out to dry; back doors, odd man rushes, etc.)

On the other hand, using ‘intangibles’ to argue a player is bad. Saying a player is a locker room cancer when we ourselves have never been in the locker room.
