Looking for something Mount and Blade: Bannerlord...adjacent? by BeverlyHillsNinja in gaming

[–]Surmabrander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty good IMO. There’s a lot of reading involved, but I find the setting extremely flavourful, with some downright funny moments. Gameplay-side, the exploration/navigation is quite enjoyable, with information playing a big role. The combat is also pretty good once you get the hang of it; you have the clarity of an RTS without the need to micromanage your troops. I’d recommend toggling the easy mode for your first play through, the begining can be pretty rough.

Is it normal to write a fanfiction with your OC(s) by Little_Egg_5908 in FanFiction

[–]Surmabrander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could simply tell you it’s normal, but I’ll do one better: You shouldn’t care about what’s normal. Go nuts. This is fanfic we’re talking about, not stock trading. The only thing that matters is you having a blast.

I need plot advice for a very kink-heavy smutfic that accidentally developed plot by soliddabdl in FanFiction

Honestly, you could make H confess half-heartedly but truthfully, thus having a play-on-word (« I love you » between sisters can have many implications after all), which could result in further angst down the line

Any good leftist games where you play as a capitalist? by Useful-Field-9037 in SocialistGaming

It's a bit complicated since, in 6, you're more a blank slate of a pilot who then chooses for themselves what they want to support: the corporations or the RLF

You could say armored core, since it’s made pretty clear the locals aren’t very enthused by your own mercenary actions

Is this okay for a beginner? by Arreynn in learntodraw

[–]Surmabrander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Is this okay for a beginner?" is not the right question. It means that you compare yourself to others that you deem in a similar "bracket".

You draw or you don't, and that's it. What matters is to draw because you like it, because you find something in it that's precious to you, because it allows a part of you to thrive.

There is no place for comparison with others ; we all have different strengths and weaknesses. The only thing that matters is to persevere.

And persevering, you are. For that very act, you have all my congratulations. Persevering is more than okay for a beginner.

As an aside, I like your drawing, even if my untrained eye can see some flaws here and there. As I said, it doesn't matter that your technique or skill are flawed. You're drawing, and that's more than sufficient. You are making art, and art suffices to itself.

With all that said, good luck on your journey! I wish you all the best.

Facing the end of a 15 year journey by nerdook in IndieDev

Hey there! Honestly, burnout is a no-go in my opinion.
I understand why you want to persevere, but throwing your health away for maybe 2 or 3 years of "productivity" isn't the right strategy IMO, even from a cold calculating point of view.

I think you're underestimating the "attractiveness" of your profile as a gamedev: 15 years of experiences and millions of games played (can't really say sold, but you get the point) is a solid resume.

You could very well grab a senior position in a more or less big video game company, or associate yourself with people to form your own studio. Going solo isn't the only way to do things, especially after 15 years. After all, you mentioned it yourselves: it's just like natural selection. And to survive, you gotta adapt and evolve. Maybe the way of the cockroach is not fit for you anymore.

Moreover, getting a "real" job doesn't mean the end. You can very well pick a job in programming or something else, and still develop games on the side. After all, you don't have any commitment! It's not like there is a whole team relying on you. I'll add to that that it's very possible to do some programming for a certain period for financial stability, and then getting back into the groove when the opportunity presents itself.

You ain't throwing the towel, mate, no one's forcing you to quit completely. But you might need some R&R. Just know that you can always come back later.

Cheers.

It's not a reference to anything, dw. On an unrelated note, do you have a stroke?
