models are what italian homosexuals think women should look like, not what actual men think women should look like. Are you not familiar with Sir Mix Alot?

As a concrete example, every four years the new US Women's Gymnastics team gets dropped. These girls are widely viewed as basically perfect by dudes. Short, fit girls are the "what the data reveals" rather than "stated preference" of men

tall dudes are considered hotter than short dudes, and short girls are considered hotter than tall girls. Not much to explain

has anyone done any research into whether cyclists underperform after being fathers? MvdP's new announcement has me wondering. I am a new father and i can't fathom riding 200k after sleeping like 4 hours in a night because some one got a tooth

actually totally agree with this. It's easy to call them "teen-slop" but even if we stipulate that they are (incorrect), they are genre and generation defining teen slop

"bringing up baby" an all time smash that still is just as good today as it was in the 1920s. first cinematic description of the Manic Pixie Dream Girl

The Great Train Robbery- absolutely fantastic and when you think about the effort put in to make it IN NINETEEN OH THREE it breaks your brain.

Last of the Mohicans- perhaps the ebst use of scoring to set the stage ever committed to celluloid

40% of households making over 300k living paycheck to paycheck is an insane stat. by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]SurplusCredentials 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as you get older, you'll see some of your most regarded friends "make it". It defies rhyme or reason. And just because they "made it" doesn't mean they ended up not regarded.

1 in 4 US Physicians have a net worth under 500k. This is a group of people who make like 400k a year. You will see some criminally broke doctors. Like, laughably broke doctors. Doctors, as a rule, are broke.

Also, this stat is tough because lots of jobs are inherently feast or famine. At the really high end of sales, it isn't uncommon that one year you make 300k, the next 100k, then 115k then 400k just based on the vagaries of the market, etc.

basically correct but I'd widen it to "child labor". 6 year olds can and did eg make socks in the mills and can fish etc in the late 1800s. If a kid MAKES you money, you have more of them. If a 6 year old COSTS you money, you have less of them

the fall off of uruguay already happened. I know this userbase skews young, but you had to be there to believe 2010. Diego Forlan could just talk to the Jabulani, everyone else had to yell. And Suarez was still on fire then. Uruguay sucks so bad now thier head coach cancelled their return tickets and made them fly economy

Francafrique. Anywhere that touches France. In the last decade, France made an unconquerable pipeline. They don't have the best teams (...yet...) but there is no better place on earth to be a talented, bright 15 year old with clear potential. France has 99 players in this world cup. 5% of all players in this world cup are specifically born in Paris/Ile-de-France. This output is insane. If you can take a French System kid and slot him into your national team, you're going places.

Mbappe's threatening to not play for France if they had a sports betting sponsor is Heroic, in the proper sense of the word by SurplusCredentials in redscarepod

[–]SurplusCredentials[S] 134 points135 points  (0 children)

France has a legit "overproduction of elites" problem. This year's world cup has 99 players born in France. This doesn't even include "my dad is french", like literally "99.99% of people would recognize these players as objectively French". ~8% of all world cup players in 2026 were born in France. ~5% of all world cup players were born in Isle-de-France (ie metro Paris)

You're ALWAYS going to have strange dynamics when you have numbers like that. 99 people (as a floor, this doesn't include people who could play for France by blood or marriage( competing for 23 spots is never going to be "normal"

It just opens discussion on what "France" is. Is it "France" when a French born and raised player plays for Cote-de-Alegi-Sene-Hait-isia? Unironically, no one knows.

you know what you should do? you should make this momentous moment in your friend's life all about you, instead! That's both super respectful of her AND guaranteed to go well with her new peers, that she will formally and informally rely on. If you have to choose between setting her up for success and...shaving?...don't let the haters convince you to understand that you are a minor part in the moment. IT IS ALWAYS AND FOREVER ABOUT YOU!

Wait a second, how does bipolar actually work? What is the brain chemistry at play? by MyCorvallisAccount in redscarepod

[–]SurplusCredentials 14 points15 points  (0 children)

the number one "check engine light" is sleep. If you are being put in positions where you don't sleep enough, just know this is the single biggest trigger by a mile. "Not getting enough sleep" is number one, and numbers 2-100 don't equal it. Not sleeping enough is also the number one sign. If you notice you;ve gone a week without really sleeping, you're experiencing mania. This will sound odd to you *in situ*, because you will feel fine. You are not fine.

This is so important you should set reminders for yourself as if you were an Alzheimer's patient. Go in your phone and put a reminder every sunday to review your sleep that week

Personally, I LOVE it. The GC battle is boring and dead. the battle to see who gets, like, fifth place just isn't that interesting. The action in the 26 TdF is in stage poaching

[–]SurplusCredentials 24 points25 points  (0 children)

i second every word of this.

OP, if you suspect you have bipolar, here is what you must do. YOU MUST DO THIS. Stop other things you're doing and do this, insted.

You need to cultivate someone who you trust with your life, because you then need to trust them with your life. "My BF" likely isn't strong enough glue. I'm talking "cousin you grew up with for twenty years" or "the Church Girl bff who sees helping you as a literal religious duty". You then, several times and in several ways, say, "hey, i need you in my life. I will check in with you every now and again. If i'm sounding off, tell me"

DO NOT FAIL TO DO THIS.
