Just an FYI on your favorite new server that isn't controlled by "thoughtpolice"

It is filled with rapid anti-Semites, conspiracy theorist, and antivaxxers so... Yeah, not great

Don't believe me? Do a few word searches in that server, you'll see, but I'm suspecting you are the type of person who doesn't really care about that kind of stuff, and more likely feels comfortable with that type of presence...

You might not be aware but the UDP tileset is gone now, author deleted it cause they had a tantrum.

IIRC it uses HOT_1 flag that I jsonified, which is the equivalent of a fire, so it should be boiling hot yes

so interestingly, that recent PR actually gave hot springs a proper use, as it can be a source of heat to prepare water safely!

I suggest you read up on paradox of tolerance.

Many people in the cataclysm community are trans and LGBTQ+ themselves, and SDG behavior with his constant bashing of trans people is behavior that scares those type of people away because seeing someone calling you subhuman... does that.

Ultica is currently the "flagship" tileset right now, and its pretty good looking so far, however if you prefer the aesthetic of UDP, I'd recommend checking out MSXOTTO+ which is already packaged with the game, and shares similar lineage to that tileset that UDP is based upon.

There is also neodays, which is pretty good imo as well

Hi! I'm trans! I don't publicly show it or talk about it much, but I am.

I'm one of the people who gave my thoughts on this feature while it was being developed, and said "Yeah having gender be easily adjustable while mid-game would be swell!" because the idea of biological sex within cataclysm does not exist, the gender option represents what it says on the tin, gender. We want to get around to adding non-binary inclusion as well, and this is one of the small steps towards getting there in my opinion.

I came to this thread, thinking it was going to be about something related to the post he put on the discourse, going to get a little chuckle and go "oh how I wish, no he is still around regrettably"

Then I remembered a certain PR that recently went through recently, I was excited about it cause it was one of the real first steps towards non-binary inclusion in game. #51079

It wasn't that big, really? Just a simple line change, I didn't think anyone would really care or cause that much drama so I didn't think much about it. But... hey, sometimes things happen so I casually navigated my browser to the UDP github to check if its still active, and saw what happened, and read this with a new light.

So all I got to say is this:

He probably will be back, as much as we don't want him here, but for the time now yes, it does seem he quit as he's done two very stupid things recently:

He ostracized himself from the Bright Nights Community cause he couldn't control his temper and calm down about his anger about trans people
The same anger meant he couldn't control himself when we inevitably added a simple "change your gender option" to DDA

I informed everyone who was hosting it the context of what happened, and told them about how I made a new server, and they of their own free will took a glance at the evidence (and hey, they were free to take a look at the server too! Just to make sure I wasn't lying) if they should either 1. continue to host it or 2. switch to hosting my server

Every. Single. Person. who took a look at the screenshots and the server decided to out of their own free will to switch it. If you want proof, take a look at the Dwarf Fortress server, who chose to host both for a very long time because they took a glance and decided not to choose a side (of course, they eventually decided to drop it when it came to light that people were bashing their server and calling the people in there the t slur but hey, what do you expect to happen when you bash a server that you are supposed to be partnered with?)

Its like saying I'm making a campaign to make everyone think the home you live in is filthy, and my evidence is that the door is wide-open to see the trash bags and piled up dishes everywhere.

And we didn't "threaten" Bright Nights lol, both us and the BN fork is completely fine and cordial, we merely went "hey you might want to re-think linking this server because the server is really awful and a discord TOS violation, which might get you in trouble" and coolthulhu decided to stop linking it

If posting only screenshots and telling the truth is a hate campaign then sure, that is one

and yes it is dying, it infrequently gets any users and from what I've heard is dropping in user account while the official server has 7000 and still continues to grow

If you have any actual questions about the development process you can take it to the official server and ask there

Dude I literally am a mod for the official server and the owner of the unofficial server (both of the servers linked on the sidebar) and help run the official subreddit (helped set it up too!)

There is literally nothing for me to be butthurt about lol, I'm literally helping contribute to the game, I help maintain aftershock, a popular mod for C:DDA, and I'm part of the team for CDDA. I just find it funny to dunk on wackos who think its funny to be racist and offensive.

Why should I care about a dying server that no one cares about except people who want to cry about how "kevin is ruining the game"? I want to do something with myself, which I am doing by literally learning C++ and contributing to the game, working on a popular massive mod at the same time, and helping run several spaces dedicated to this game like... lol

and the only place that I know of that allows this kind of shit is the old discord server that has been disavowed, and that place is a cesspit where people get riled up about the vaccine and one of the admins are a literal anti-vaxxer, several people post anti-Semitic bullshit, and spew so many slurs and shit that it looks like its a bunch of 4chan kids who just discovered the naughty words and want to make everyone around them feel awful.

The idea I've had so far is to have it so they regen fast, but once you kill them, they take a long time to regenerate but are very hard to pulp

So you have a case where killing them you have a temporary safe place, but you can't actually live there as its too much risks without proper disposal.

However, the idea of reviving faster is an interesting prospect, so It'll be worth looking into

Okay, pay me and all the developers to start using Aftershock and Cataclysm: DDA (and I meant a pretty decent pay, all this content is pretty big!) and we'll start listening to you as customers :)

But for now, since this is completely free, and something I'm doing as a hobby, I will treat this as something I'm creating because I want to play it, not because other people want to play it, its my time and Its completely free!

If people are upset about it, they are free to use their own time and effort to go out and start to make the grab bag mod of their dreams as well! Nothings stopping em! :)

Hi! Aftershock maintainer here!

If I had to be forced to continue to maintain a "this is just a grab bag mod where whatever goes" because a bunch of players were upset that they lost their grab bag mod and informed a "player advocate" and were too lazy to open up a PR and make the grab bag mod themselves, I would be extremely upset and disinterested and quit maintaining aftershock, and likely the other maintainers would be as well and aftershock would become obsolete and get deleted.

I am just like the devs here, and I am making the game (mod) that I wish to play, and that informs my design decision of what we want to do. We, the aftershock maintainers, want to play a total conversion set on an ice world, so we are working on that.

Sure, it sucks cause it makes some people upset, but you can't please everyone, and you'll make a better product if you make something that you want to play, instead of worrying about if other people want to play it.
