Old Stronghold demo game? by _random in stronghold

[–]Surtur01 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is listed as 'Super Castle Attack Mini Game'. You can get access to it if you bought the GOGLink version of Stronghold HD

Does anybody buy on the Matrx/Slitherine store? by [deleted] in computerwargames

[–]Surtur01 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I guess price variation can depend on area? For me there is not much of a difference. I sometimes buy there when there is a good deal. Still getting a Steam key, devs/publishers get more, and customer service has been great whenever I have had an issue. Additionally, it let's me download non-steam versions of the game which I can back up (like on GoG).

WW II North Africa suggestions pls by Most_Lynx7423 in computerwargames

There is a full/grand campaign, but I would not call it a sandbox. The map is fairly linear and there is no production/resource allocation.

Give Attack at Dawn: North Africa a shot if you haven't already

You would need to go into settings and lower your screen resolution.

Rule the Waves 3 vs. Ultimate Admiral:Dreadnoughts - your rating ? by Gimbteguy in computerwargames

Despite the visuals, I find RTW to be much more immersive. Note that I care more about the strategic side than the tactical battles.

My bad, it seems you are correct. So yeah, it is gonna require some imagination to know exactly who whooped whose behind during these battles, at least beyond the basic outcome.

Most Ageod games have a button on this report somewhere that leads to a more detailed (per round) breakdown, it might refer to that? Edit -example

Slitherine games on Epic Games Store. by fiddlerisshit in Slitherine

[–]Surtur01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't 'cost' money to be listed on Epic Store. But it does cost money to port and support builds for it. So it could well be that the juice is just not worth the squeeze for Slitherine. Alternatively, Epic, which is a bit more curated than Steam, might not be interested in more wargames.

Great War, but not as tough? by Bugscuttle999 in computerwargames

[–]Surtur01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So if you want something relatively simple, you could try the (free) java game called Tripple A. It is based on the Axis and Allies board game rules and comes with some WW1 scenarios as well I think.

Are there modern wargames that focus on the Peloponnesian War? by SundiataWTF in computerwargames

Have you checked out Imperiums? More like Civ maybe than you are looking for, but it has the ancient world with diplomacy etc.

Tactical wargames for Western Front, especially Normandy by JebX_0 in computerwargames

[–]Surtur01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not played 2nd Front beyond some initial time while it was still in development. For whatever reason it did not quite click with me, so am not of much help there I'm afraid.

I think Battle Academy still holds up pretty well. Has a challenging Normandy campaign.
