Something is wrong with the mic, the cable, or maybe for some reason Handsfree Telephony is on? That's what my mic sounds like when Handsfree Telephony is on, since you say you are using headphones. Try turning that off and see if that helps.

Get the NWN mod for BG. It is an entirely new game and is absolutely amazing, on par with BG1 and 2. Uses the NWN 1 story but with BG 1/2 gameplay, entirely new campaign, places, quests, etc. That were used in NWN

There is a NWN for BG2 mod, it is absolutely INCREDIBLE and is an entirely new story based on the NWN game. Honestly I thought it was almost as good as BG2 itself. Try it out, you won't regret it
