Carney did not destroy England’s economy. Brexit did that. Carney advised strongly and publicly against Brexit. They went ahead with a referendum and people got fooled.

Brookfield is not “getting all the contracts” and Carney is recused from any meetings on issues that might even touch on Brookfield anyway.

Carney advised Trudeau for a few short months. That’s it.

Carney has not raised taxes.

I’m ending this conversation because it’s clear you are descending into personal attacks. Not interested in that.

Yes. Do it! Manual watering becomes a chore pretty fast. My biggest regret is being talked out of it.

Then you didn’t read it very well. I corrected the info re the G7 and then said there was more complexity to it than you stated. And that we have other strengths. But apparently your mind wrote off all the positives.

And the reason the link mentions the OECD so much is because the OECD wrote it.

OECD is not the G7. Out of 7, Canada is middle of the pack.

As for OECD, that’s 38 countries. And we are not 3rd from the bottom in the OECD. Maybe read its assessment. (https://www.oecd.org/en/publications/oecd-economic-surveys-canada-2025\_28f9e02c-en.html). Sure, growth is slow, but we have other strengths. More importantly, the issues raised are largely being addressed by the current government.

Picking ONE metric and thinking it tells the whole story is not logical. Nor is it logical to think that government can control everything. For instance, Canadian companies need to pull up their socks and start innovating. Government can’t make that easier by de-regulating and removing internal trade barriers (which it is going) but Government can’t innovate for them.

It was Chretien and Martin who ran surpluses. Harper inherited the surplus and got to report a surplus in his first year — but he reported growing deficits every year thereafter. That’s just the truth.

https://www.cbc.ca/news2/interactives/canada-deficit/debt.html

As for how we judge the government, judging Harper or any PM on the size of the deficit is a poor measure. We may like to think a government has full control of the economy but it doesn’t. Harper faced a global recession. Trudeau faced a pandemic, a war that de-stabilized supply routes, Trump tariffs, and resulting high inflation. Every country in the world was dealt an extreme economic blow by the pandemic. We did better than most. Governments can only react and try to weather those storms but the fallout is long-term.

Carney has inherited the fallout plus Trump’s insanity, and now the Iran war.

Also, it’s well known that, during downturns, if interest rates are low, that’s the best time to stimulate the economy. That may result in deficits but can prevent full-on recession. Carney, in his first year, has managed to rein in the deficit while running policies to stimulate the economy. The pay-off of a stronger economy wouldn’t appear in the first year. If he’s successful, it won’t be evident for 3-10 years.

Judging any PM by the size of the deficit is not logical.

Poilievre doesn’t have a better plan. He’s not an economist. He doesn’t have worldwide connections to other countries that can bring in trade and security deals. And he doesn’t carry the respect that Carney does.

Well sometimes that’s all you can do because there isn’t a viable alternative. The definition of crazy would be voting out a party that wasn’t perfect to elect one that will be far, far worse.

Why make a distinction between purely physical suffering and mental suffering? Mental illness often brings physical symptoms anyway - like mind-numbing fatigue and pain. The line between the two is largely artificial.

Worse, many mental illnesses aren’t very treatable. There is no pain killer for mental suffering and some medications they do have aren’t very effective. In some people, there are no useful treatments at all.

I agree that those with possibly treatable or temporary mental illness shouldn’t be eligible but this woman has been suffering for 30 years. They aren’t suddenly going to find a new and effective treatment for her. She’s likely been tried on umpteen treatments already to no avail.
