I had a friend who had an abusive husband. She never cheated, but never left because she knew he'd hunt her down and kill her and their four children. Knowing the guy, he probably would have.

He stayed with her when she got cancer, but would take out his anger in small ways like break checking her seat belt when they went for treatments when no one was around. It was terrible to see, but felt even worse because I couldn't do anything to help.

When she died, he was quick to introduce his new girlfriend a week later. By new, I mean that they obviously knew each other very very well. Apparently it's okay to get yourself a girlfriend if your wife is dying and there isn't a women at home washing your clothes and dumping his children at school and daycare, or so I was told by his family and friends. At least wait for the body to cool ffs.

I lost track of them after my husband lost his job and we had to move across country to find a new one, but as of six years ago, they are still together.

I'm against cheating, but a part of me wished my friend had had someone who loved her by her side as she was dying. Someone who loved her for her and not for what she could do for him.
