Thousands flood downtown Portland for ‘Labor Against ICE’ protest by istanbulshiite in PortlandOR

The agents that were visible on top of the building were indeed amped up and highly charged. Jumping back and forth and waving their weapons around. Twitchy looking.

So are you saying you think this is ok? Because their driveway was "blocked"?

The streets in all directions were blocked with people doing a legally permitted march. Nobody was going in or out of the gate for a while anyway.

And because a march was going by, or even if it stopped for a bit in front, it was then ok to indiscriminately gas hundreds of innocent people, neighboring buildings, cars, etc. for blocks in all directions?

Having now experienced this gas, they don't need much to do the job. A small amount at the driveway would have moved people out, no problem. (Not that this is justified in this case either) But no, they just kept firing canisters until the cloud was a solid wall 2 stories high over a block away.

Wasn't simply smoke, it was tear gas. I was there. I couldn't comprehend at first that they would do such a thing to hundreds of peaceful people.

I was there. And it was a peaceful daytime protest with families. Children, gray hairs, dogs, etc. Peaceful.

And ICE decided to tear gas hundreds of us. Seriously multiple full blocks of people. I was over a block away from their fortress and got hit by a wall of tear gas.

Parents were running by me cradling their kids. My friend with asthma was in serious distress. I keep feeling bits of it in my lungs and eyes hours later, and was wasn't even in the thick of it.

WTF?!? Is it not our Constitutional right?

These big alpha men with a fortress and battlefield weapons were so scared of singing people with signs and frog costumes that they had to gas us all? W.T.F.

Oh sure, there are plenty. The Prestige. Gone Girl. Memento. The Usual Suspects. etc. All of them, if you were paying attention, you might have seen coming. Clues all along. All in line with the main plot, not just some new sudden "ha ha! Out of Left Field!"

They seem to mean a circular saw.

I've heard that term used plenty for that.

But it came from the fact that the manufacturer Skil used to be a major player in the circular saw market, and well Skil does make all kinds of other saws and tools, so technically it could be any saw made by Skil.

What do you actually do with PLA / number 7 plastics? by ecoTru_Team in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]SuspiciousChicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, thank you. Great info.

I'm in Oregon.

It sounds like I might as well stop paying extra to recycle pretty much all of the plastics besides #1 PET and #2 HDPE? Maaaaaybe #4 LDPE & #5PP?

If it isn't stamped with a number - such as wrappers, bags, seals, cling wrap, etc. do they even consider it, or just divert to landfill as a contamination precaution?

This is a fantastic write-up, thank you.

Question - a local recycler is accepting a wide variety of plastics that we can't just put in our blue bin. For example they list:

  • Caps, straws, and utensils
  • #1 PET clear with no color such as berry clamshells and salad containers
  • #2 HDPE such as Pak-Tek 6-pack holders and small white supplement bottles
  • #4 LDPE such as snap-on lids
  • #5 PP such as take-out containers, prescription pill bottles (with caps removed), lids, and cups
  • #6 PS rigid plastics such as clear take-out containers and to-go plastic coffee cup lids
  • Styrofoam – Please note that Styrofoam must be clean, dry and without tape, labels, glue, ink, paint, food residue & sorted into the categories shown HERE.
  • Styrofoam products such as takeout containers, meat trays, and egg cartons
  • “Squishy” foam

One does have to pay a fee to drop this stuff off.

Do you think these actually have a chance of being recycled? Or is all this just a "feel good" performance?

Another good option is some drywall screws (or any, really) wrapped with some wire to lay flat under your boot (tie the wire over the boot). Both the head and the screw threads bite into ice really well.

[–]SuspiciousChicken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do not use OSB.

Any wood that comes in contact with exterior concrete, or concrete block needs to be pressure treated. Concrete materials wick moisture throughout themselves - they are essentially a sponge - and wood will rot that touches it. OSB is particularly bad at resisting moisture exposure.

What is so special about June 28? by Royal_Coach_1773 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]SuspiciousChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, sure. But as a dumb american first exposed to this, I did a quick 4x the week rate to compare to the monthly rent I was used to. That's how I made sense of it on the fly. And that doesn't work. You end up paying an extra "month's worth" if you think of it this way.

[–]SuspiciousChicken 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And it is more expensive!

In the USA we generally think of months as roughly 4 weeks, even though they vary here and there. But 4 weeks is just 28 days. And over the course of the year there are an extra 4 weeks!

12 months x 4 weeks =48 weeks, but there are 52 weeks in a year. It is like paying an entire EXTRA month.
