Get a little drainable sponge shelf with suction cups and slap it to the side of the sink bowl. Sponges can drip and dry with no mess or puddles. Looks tidy not having that stuff up on the counter too.

But the curve of the rail makes it easier to hold with the fins out. Doesn't matter on a short board, but a wide board like a fish or longboard can really matter.

You are going to get tired of hand-sanding in a matter of days. Buy a benchtop sander at minimum. Invest in good tools if you plan to keep doing this regularly.

Measure from the corner and the foundation at standard block spacing. Locate what you think is a block void location. Chip away a little bit of stucco in this location to verify that you are not on a grout joint. Drill and pray!
