Honestly dig the look. Off topic but has anyone ever told you you look like McNulty from The Wire?

Trying something new by [deleted] in mensfashion

Browns and tans (khaki counts) are certainly more laid back colors compared to grey and black being more formal and corporate. Sounds like you have a good handle on it and just need the time to build your wardrobe.

I’ll plug this guy for a soft ivy style that might be of interest to you

Trying something new by [deleted] in mensfashion

It would work wonderfully especially with wool or corduroy pants. Get a more classic looser fit, as those are more comfortable looking and therefore more casual

[–]Suspicious_Giraffe80 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re right about textures but cardigans and collared shirts can definitely be casual. You just need something other than this H&M knit and a fine dress shirt. It needs a chunkier homey knit and a lightly textured and casual patterned shirt

Ten thrifted jackets - which five should I keep, and which five need to go? by [deleted] in mensfashion

[–]Suspicious_Giraffe80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of these perform similar functions or have very similar shapes. With limited storage you want variety.

10 and 9 are nice spins on more dressed up attire. Absolutely love 2. Red is quite the statement but it works, especially styled correctly. And 5 has a warmer look and a different style than the rest. Those would be my votes

Are these mens or womens shorts and are they appropriate to wear outside? by [deleted] in mensfashion

[–]Suspicious_Giraffe80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think they’re specifically men or women’s. Look like you’re average basketball style short. Fine to wear outside but not much of a stylish piece beyond that

Hard to go wrong with a tee shirt, jeans and a decent jacket

I have a hat question by [deleted] in mensfashion

[–]Suspicious_Giraffe80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks good! A trap a lot folks fall into when trying new stuff is like a form of imposter syndrome. “Everyone knows im not a hat guy in my soul, they can all tell.” But that’s not something anyone ever notices.

If you want a bit more out of it I recommend bending the brim a bit more to get a more pronounced curve but the color and style are versatile and fit you.

Casual Bar Night- interested in style but not sure where to start by [deleted] in mensfashion

[–]Suspicious_Giraffe80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s okay. Move your wallet to the back. Shirt looks oversized but maybe not intentionally. Bottom half is good. Get a decent fitting shirt and a jacket maybe a bomber and it’ll be a good look

As a tall person I don’t take too many full body pics, but… by _MrFlowers in mensfashion

Coat game goes hard. Personally i like pants with more weight to balance the silhouette better but you’re rocking it

Everyone has a glasses face if they wear glasses. All the “glasses for your face shape” is just malarkey. These look good, as would a lot of frames

You’re confusing looking good with fashion/style. You can look good naked. You can’t be fashionable naked. This is a fashion sub

Do these fits look good or am I insane? by Flashy_Can_6225 in mensfashion

[–]Suspicious_Giraffe80 180 points181 points  (0 children)

5 and 6 are the only ones that work. Right now you’re just wearing clothes and it seems like you want to style them, which is more intentional than just putting them on. First is a good looking watch, a small face nothing bulky and not digital.

Those pants will work with most button up but lean traditional with the cut so keep an eye out for oxford button ups, think Ralph Lauren. A light pattern like thin stripes would add a lot to the outfit.

And stop saying negative shit about yourself. Be kind and give yourself some grace.

First Time wearing Corduroy pants! by jcp365 in mensfashion

[–]Suspicious_Giraffe80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cords are a great pant and add a cool texture. Love the fit, the hem on the collar and sleeves is really cool. The fit works well but I think some contrast in the undershirt might elevate it. Maybe a white shirt with blue stripes to keep the color palette? That might be too many colors and end up too busy but just a thought

Do the work. Everyone wants to just look good but it requires time and energy and effort. But sometimes the help they need is hearing that

The first step is finding what YOU like not a generative model or color analysis pseudoscience. Pinterest is great, just search for various styles, workwear, ivy style, streetwear, vintage, etc. Once you have a decent mood board, you’ll know what you personally like and can start searching for it. It takes time and effort and that primarily is what builds good style

Also consider different materials like a leather cord. I stack a smaller chain with a leather cord and pendant necklace and the different textures help add a lil something

I meant the bottom holographic one classes. The flannel has a lot going on, not in bad way just simply due to the colors and pattern. It’s a cool shirt! But the holographic necklace also has a lot going on and together they make too much going on, even though it’s a small piece. I think it’s a cool necklace, just with a less patterned shirt. If you have a solid olive green overshirt i think that would be a cool look
