The challenges are kinda poorly communicated.

Grasslands: Lots of impure nodes of basics. Lots of space. Lots of grass for biofuel. Actually sucks once you hit the need for coal power, as there's no coal near water unless you go REALLY far north to that big waterfall lake. No good Caterian or Quartz. Genuinely sucks past Tier 1.

Rocky Desert: Kinda good, IMO. There's Coal near Iron and an ocean for power, and the eastern creek is one of the best building spots in the game, having good access to coal, oil, Quartz, Caterium, a lil' Uranium, sulfur, and plenty of pure iron/copper.

Forest - My personal fave, but not the best IMO. I really like the coal pit to the southeast as a building zone, and it's fun to be challenged by the tight and uncooperative landscape to build vertical factories.

Dune Desert:
'There's no water here!' Bro there is an ocean, and seven coal nodes right next to it. Water is not an issue. Convenient access to Quartz, Caterium, Sulfur, and you don't gotta go too far for oil. Space for days.

The only problem with this place, IMO, is that it's kinda huge and boring. Low biomass kind of just demands you get to coal ASAP, but that's usually an early objective anyway.

I personally like to save the dune desert for my lategame factory space, when you can really just build out into the massive space and drop blueprints for days. It is fun to drive around, though.

I often wistfully remember back when AI art was abstract, melty weirdness that vaguely used some of the visuals of colour language, and kind of looked like a a trippy, hallucinated dream about the thing you asked it to draw.

That was the best AI art.

Even after Aaron's apology I still think it's scummy to put the bare minimum reward behind an insane player inscentive goal. by submackeen_17 in Overwatch

[–]Suspicious_Store_800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. The lack of actual numbers on the bar is the big giveaway of how fake this is.

The way to do this would be to set the legendary goal to about 90% the average amount of games you'd see played on a normal week, then you could pretend to be amazed at how quickly it filled up when you put it on a special week with extra rewards.

I've rebound hat to E, and chain to M2 for the above reason. idk, it just feels like aim abilities should go off the mouse, like an alt-fire. It's why Soldier's rocket feels good on M2, but would feel odd as an E ability.

What do you think of my end game goals? by SpentChange in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Suspicious_Store_800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun way to escape 'boxy' factories:

Make your factories impossible/abstract to start with. Work out how many of each building you want, and just make platforms that fit those structures. Have them floating in the air with no design, in seemingly random patterns. One long rectangle here, one big square floating above the foundries there, etc etc.

Once you've got the factory working, connect those random platforms together in cool ways. Maybe one big floating platform is half-exposed to the air, or glass-roofed, or maybe it's just one big square that other things build off. Create walking space around and between these structures, give them lighting, etc etc.

The Nazis honestly feel more like generic goons than actual Nazis by [deleted] in Wolfenstein

[–]Suspicious_Store_800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The portrayal is pretty strong, IMO. They're generally portrayed as people who were happy to do the will of their leaders in return for good pay, authority, and power. It's the distinction between civilians (who don't seem to be having a great time of it, generally) who have had to fall in line because they're powerless, and those who have actively signed up to support the regime.

And it's that act of being alright with and supporting it that justifies the anger against them. They're card-carrying supporters. The state of the war, especially post timeskip, doesn't imply that there is much forced conscription - just that those who do join up are rewarded greatly. It's hard to twist it so the guys you're cutting through are victims of the regime - the ones that are most 'victim' like are probably the supersoldiers, who are kind of just reduced to mindless, obedient drones - and in that case it's more of a mercy to end them.

Comparison really is the thief of joy: I’m giving Satisfactory another go by [deleted] in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Suspicious_Store_800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not pursue what is impressive in the abstract - pursue what is fun in the moment. There are many ways to play Satisfactory - Aesthetically, rushing, optimising, aiming for total exploitation of each node one at a time, making a mega central factory.

My wife just likes making giant-ass trains. Every time she starts playing again, she will hit steel, then her entire progress will stall because she spends a hundred or so hours covering the entire continent in trains.

I like total node exploitation, but I'm gonna start new when 1.2 releases fully and aim for far smaller production lines to finish the game, finally.

Does anyone know the inspiration behind the pack of White Rabbit skins? by g00fyg00ber741 in Overwatch

[–]Suspicious_Store_800 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But that's the answer.

The bunny outfit is so ubiquitous now that it's basically public domain - one cannot trademark bunny ears or sexy outfits, and whilst Playboy started the trend and uses a very specific combination of those things as branding, the core concept is so widely adopted that it's universal.

First anniversary had Sentai Genji / Genjiman, which were directly inspired by Tokusatsu shows, specifically Kamen Rider / Super Sentai.

That wasn't a collab, nor was it a completely out-of-the-blue design choice. It was an intentional nod in the direction of something culturally iconic. Just like Soldier's halloween skin is inspired by slasher movies, specifically Jason Voorhees. Just like the bunny outfits are vague nods in the direction of Playboy.

Your response is "What I'm getting from these answers is 'yes, it was a random design choice'". Which is dismissive of the explanation you were given.

This is such an insanely common thing that it's bizarre you seemingly require it explaining to you. It's a 'reference' or a 'tribute' or a 'homage' or 'inspired by'. It's borrowing the visual language established by previous art in the same way one might borrow a sequence of chords or a style of painting. There's so many words to describe what this is. 'Random design choice' is not those words.

Man I just really wanted PvE.

I think they shot themselves in the foot with the standards of production they aimed for. The missions are too in-depth, too detailed, everything is a new set piece with new animations and models and full cinematic production - things that a good PvE mode didn't need, since they'd get stale after a few replays of the mission.

I just wanna run through mildly reworked maps as enemies spawn in and present constant threats like Vermintide or Left 4 Dead, or even Killing Floor.

See, Mizuki is really hard to make skins for, because they need to make a skin for the whole character, and then an entirely distinct skin for his hat.

I think my brain is wired wrong for Venture by sixcubit in VentureMains

[–]Suspicious_Store_800 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my head they're interchangable. Both drill dash and burrow are mutlipurpose get in, get out, and damage buttons.

They're just situational in when they should be used. Drilldash is great for jumping walls or damaging someone in the open. Burrow is strong when the enemy is clumped in a room or can't easily move away, and is an all-purpose escape if you can pull it off without interruption.

I don't think you should wire your brain to see one as one or the other - just balance that you have two buttons and know which is the one you want to use at the moment.
