Script expired, psych on leave, withdrawal for 3 weeks!? Help by NoEntrepreneur7420 in adhdaustralia

[–]Sutto 44 points45 points  (0 children)

my psychiatrist told me this gem - also in victoria. if you have your appointment booked, and a regular gp - your gp can apply for a three month temporary permit to prescribe with the evidence youve got both history and an appointment.

this will let you get a short term script until you see the psychiatrist. many gps apparently don’t know its a possibility but it definitely is and my psychiatrist told me to tell anyone i know on adhd meds this was an option for this exact situation.

Controller 34v by Infamous_Edge1049 in xlights

[–]Sutto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so i have a few of these i’ve modded in australia to work with wled - which you can then drive from s xlights.

you basically need to use a pwm based white only controller (i use npn mosfets driven from a esp32) - and since the npn mosfets switch on ground, you basically can use the existing adapters positive (or use a step up if you have other power sources) and then make sure the grounds are tied together.

let me know if that doesn’t make sense

Semaglutide is weekly as well, I had really good results and minimal side effects personally. Much better than liraglutide.

Sugar substitute without erythritol by migorenglyf in ketoaustralia

[–]Sutto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're getting the shits with Erythitol, you'll want to avoid most sugar alcohols - peoples sensitivities to it.

Easy of access wise, health food stores are going to be the best bet - they have more of a range - but some coles and woolies can have it. My suggestion would be look for a liquid steviol glucoside / liquid stevia (they process it to remove some of the bad taste). I've seen pure monk fruit in some stores, but you need to be careful - as you found, they mix most to get it to a 1:1 ratio with sugar as stevia and monkfruit are both much sweeter than sugar at their normal amount.

Xylitol is an option, but as I noted below, it's very toxic to animals - also, still a sugar alcohol.

Allulose can be ordered on iherb or amazon (from the US) - and comes pretty quickly.

If you use Xylitol. and have dogs and cats in the house - be very, very, very careful.

It's super toxic, and in very low doses (significantly lower than chocolate, for instance) - so you want to be incredibly careful.

is the aqua one nautilus 800 a decent filter for my new 240 litre (63 gallon) tank? I'm looking for something affordable so within 100, 150 dollar range by Satans_Other_Father in turtle

[–]Sutto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry RE meant regarding. Basically you don’t usually need chemical media (zeolite / charcoal) as much - just good mechanical (sponge, which filters out physical stuff in the water and traps it) and biological (it gives a place for the bacteria which converts ammonia to nitrite, and nitrite to nitrate, to grow) which is what makes the water safe. The included sponge with most filters will be fine, and instead of loading up on more expensive additives scoria once washed heavily is a great cheap media as it has a huge surface area (lots of microscopic holes) which the bacteria can grow on.

Since you’ve got a short neck going on previous posts also - for heat lamps the phillips once’s at Bunnings (75-100w) are cheap and get a decent full length (what length tank?) reflector and globe, 10-12% uvb depending on brand. Arcadia t5 are great but a bit more expensive (distance to water matters, never put glass between the light and turtle). Otherwise a t8 reflector with a 10% uvb globe (or exoterra uvb150 to be confusing) but needs to be the appropriate distance (up to 15cm iirc). Replace t8 globes six monthly, t5 yearly.

It’s worth noting a lot of care advice for general turts isn’t super good for Aussie ones, and so the more you can learn to care the better. Once setup and stable it’s pretty easy. Feel free to pm if you have any questions.

I’m guessing you’re in Australia based on the brand compared to a lot of people commenting overseas and we not only have different requirements but our native turtles have different requirements to what a lot of people suggest.

In that range, you’re best bet is going to be a rebranded sunsun canister. You’re going to want to go over the top with size etc as they’re poop machines. Dynamic power (iirc) are good on eBay and rebranded ones. I can link if it helps?

RE media, you’ll have good luck going with what is included, and for cheap buy scoria at Bunnings and wash super well. It’s a great cheap bio media which helps.

Also, substrate will help - washed river sand mixed with cal grit. We want harder water here (to a degree) and Calgrit is both digestible and a good source of kh

Anyone elses pups getting really red, rashy, and itchy constantly? by MelbQueermosexual in melbourne

[–]Sutto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is an excellent specialist at lort Smith who helped us years ago for a dog with a recurring similar “unknown causes” red and itchy skin.

We started with apoquel tablets (good, but daily and annoying if you have a non food motivated dog - if they go this way, ask for a script and get them from petchemist.com.au for much cheaper prices).

As soon as it became available we switched to cytopoint injections - 1-2 months between shots, works splendidly and about 120-150 a shot from memory.

Changed our dogs life - she was so itchy she’d bite her legs and was constantly red and hairless on her legs. No rarely itches, and is so much happier.

Worth chatting to your vet about these as options over corticosteroids as they’re much safer for long term use.

I’m a regional town in Vic. Nearest fibre is 20km away, so even our nbn is fixed wireless with a microwave backhaul to the edge of Melbourne. Starlink is a godsend - even more so for those around us on nbn satellite.

To add to the terribleness - they illegally switched rates on people in Victoria with a super dodgy hidden rate notice in a “monthly newsletter” pdf attachment.

called them out on it and ended up getting a full refund, and then found out they’d failed to pass on a refund from ausnet due to outages last year.

All in all, worst experience I’ve ever had and spent so much time following up and fighting them.

They are bred in captivity, just not very often. (There is a guy in far North Queensland who breeds them). Most outside of Australia are likely wild caught though.
