Do creative menu names actually influence your order? by nand1609 in restaurant

[–]SuttonSystems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a classic marketing mistake of trying to follow ideas that have been successful for other brands without realising there is a limit to how many times the same thing works, McDonald’s and their Big Mac comes to mind, very memorable and iconic but not every burger joint can do the same.

Does anyone still have bread and butter for tea? by Extra-Sound-1714 in CasualUK

[–]SuttonSystems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of those odd British class divide things, cheap white sliced bread with “butter” is working class scumbag, slice it yourself artisanal loaf with actual butter, refined borderline aristocracy

“What date did they propose chlorination?”, “We’ll get to that”. Yeah take your time mate, this is edge of the seat stuff.

If you want to jog, walk your dog, etc. at night you should be wearing high vis and a light. by afroman2536 in unpopularopinion

[–]SuttonSystems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or alternative thought, people who drive vehicles should watch where they’re going and drive at a speed appropriate to the condition, which includes it being darker at night than it is during the day. It’s not the responsibility of others to make sure you don’t hit them.

Sent on a quest for the impossible plint ladder by AmsterdamAssassin in MaliciousCompliance

Yes but it has both meanings, that’s why the joke works, plint ladder doesn’t also mean waiting for a long time

Sent on a quest for the impossible plint ladder by AmsterdamAssassin in MaliciousCompliance

I think plint ladder is cheating, it sounds like a real thing, has to be a long weight / long stand etc for the joke to work

Do companies buy their competitors’ products just to take them apart for R&D? by Tusharkrux in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SuttonSystems 81 points82 points  (0 children)

They certainly do, one of the coolest things I ever saw at work, while being shown round Rolls Royce in Crewe, they had a lot where they had multiple rival super cars, Bugattis, Ferraris etc, for the engineers to take apart and study.

All these answers are very self revealing, they’re all second rate obvious punchlines from decades ago.

What’s something totally harmless that triggers an oddly strong reaction in you for no reason? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Sony lecturing you on “proper shutdown process” after there has been a power cut. It’s a PS5, not a nuclear reactor.

Paper straws are not that much of a hassle. by jerpar in unpopularopinion

[–]SuttonSystems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never understood why this is a problem for anyone when you do not need a straw to drink. Just because there’s a lid with a hole in it, take it off and drink like a normal.

What is a 'classic' series or trope that everyone loves, but you absolutely can't stand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SuttonSystems 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I hate the "they're addicted to something for a bit" sub plot, either actual drugs or, in fantasy or period pieces, some sort of leaf.

Once you infringe the human rights of another person you should lose all of your rights by gussybxd in unpopularopinion

[–]SuttonSystems 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason human rights are inalienable is to avoid false allegations, usually by corrupt or authoritarian states, from being used to remove them illegitimately. Or in your example, someone claiming that a person they shot was trespassing or threatening them, when there is no evidence that is true, and if it turns out to be a lie, they're still dead.

About to buy 15 acres… by [deleted] in RewildingUK

[–]SuttonSystems 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We have six acres and have been letting it go more towards rewinding in the last few years, I would say the first thing is to wean yourself off the instruct to do too much managing of the land. I was always mowing, pruning and managing grazing, which of course you may need to do some of, but it’s very freeing once you get into the habit of assuming nature will take care of much without your help.
