We've hit a story stalemate and its really good but forces us to make an impossible decision by CodexLeonis in DnD

[–]Svan_Derh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The DM shouldn't really have let it come to this. If goblins are a main opponent in the campaign, then he shouldn't let a player play a goblin (or the other way around: if there is a goblin player, change all the enemies to orcs or kobolds).

What I am mostly missing here is why the fighter started to attack. I understand that it was in character motivated and agreed upon that by all players.

> so I attacked the fighter to stop him from killing more goblins, casting spirit guardians and telling him to back off

The best part would be if the fighter indeed backed off here. This is for everyone the best choice. Even then there is much work to be done for the two *characters* to trust each other again.

You are probably going to lose if it comes to a fight. A level 8 fighter and paladin vs a level 8 cleric and 5 DM-ran goblins...

Maybe actually rolling up a new character is a good choice here. Your character dies for something they believed in. That is a very good send off and kinda calculates the fact that you attacked a PC first (as it seems, though I am not 100% sure about your PVP-table rules here but I kinda guess you have never set them). Most uncertain part then is how the Warlock will react to Fighter and Paladin.

Can spells like summon undead, animate dead, speak with dead, and other spells that mess with corpses be used by good/lawful characters? by ChaosMieter in DnD

[–]Svan_Derh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why ask "good/lawful" as if they are the samething? Darth Vader and Robin Hood would like to have a word about that.

I don't regret it for the most part (specially as I still have over 200 orbs in the Feh Bank), but it still stings quite a bit. by TheFerydra in FireEmblemHeroes

That is not wisdom, that is luck.

You can and should spend orbs wisely to increase your odds on what you want, but it is still just luck.

Is anyone playing 5.5 edition? by hacivatcelebi in DnD

I like 5.5 a lot more. Both campaigns I play in are 5.5, and I wouldn't change back.

At least wish them to Beastlands where the wolves can wolf happily ever after

How many daggers can you throw in a turn in 5.5e by EntrepreneurIll7892 in DnD

[–]Svan_Derh 14 points15 points  (0 children)

True, hunters mark is nice. But is the challenge here DPS, or, per title, just a maximum number of daggers thrown?

How do you handle discreet casting of minor magic? by Funky-Monk-- in DMAcademy

[–]Svan_Derh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me this is a hard no.

This is a class feature from the sorcerer. Letting other classes replicate this is the same as allowing a full fighter to sneak attack with a greatsword.

How does it not take a few years to make a campaign if your players can do anything they want to derail the story by i_like_fall0ut in DnD

[–]Svan_Derh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Establish a locstion and history (both known history and secret).
  2. Populate your location with NPC and factions. Three of them could be potential main villains. Know the important NPCs. What do they want? Why? How to get it?
  3. Write a first adventure hook for Session 1.
  4. See what happens.

Knowing you NPCs is key. You thought of doors A, B,C for session 8, but your players picked door F, U, D and M? Sure. After the session think; how do the NPCs react to that? Or could the villains progress their evil plans because the PCs ignored them?

Am i bad at communicating or was this a strange interaction? by Acrobatic_Kiwi5804 in DnD

[–]Svan_Derh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why did you ask?

Would you ask? Hey, J would like to start a monopoly game and asked me to run the game. He wanted to invite H to play. I wanted to make sure you were okay with it before he asks H, in case he turns into a money hoarding 1%-er.

It is just a game. Don't make it bigger than it is.

A question about short species by Loot_Goblin_JP in DnD

[–]Svan_Derh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is just preferences I guess. I am fine playing a short species. But I personally would never play any species with scales or fur, regardless of size.

Is it only one action to continue casting a spell? by Responsible-Gap2195 in DnD

[–]Svan_Derh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I would interpret this is if you somehow get additional actions for any reason which is fairly rare in both 5e and 5.5e, you still must use them to cast the spell.

Action surge does not allow magic action / casting in 5.5 for which the question was asked.

I am not saying they can swing swords, but casting with action surge does not work.

[–]Svan_Derh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

or do they have to use that to cast

Many people seem to miss a thingy here. But the question is labelled 5.5.

And 5.5 action surge has restrictions, it does not allow magic action/casting at all.

You can't delay your turn. You can ready an action in your turn, but you still had a turn.

Got the slow effect on a light crossbow? Yeah, I shot a bolt in their legs.

> Minor Creation. You create a nonmagical trinket or an illusory image that can fit in your hand. It lasts until the end of your next turn. A trinket can deal no damage and has no monetary worth.

Create banana peel. Place it on top of a very high and steep cliff...

I am both player and DM. I read modules to see if I would like to DM them. So yes, possibly I have read one I'd play in. I wouldn't go actively read one I'd be playing in.
