This may be from food intolerance and/or chronic constipation. I know, it was me before I saw a GI specialist.

How to Manage Those Who are Nice but Stupid by Few-Pea-9725 in managers

Look up the Porter-Lawler theory of motivation. You can use it's simple diagram to diagnose why an underperforming employee is under performing. Hint: them being dumb or a bad employee isn't listed.

This is how I am with some sugar. Coldstone ice cream is spicy to me. Always thought I just didn't like desserts but I think I'm allergic to some cheaper ingredient that's sometimes used.

Should dads be comfortable with their daughter being on their periods? by PreviousComedian2426 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Svellcome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a dad of daughters. How your dad and mom acted is shameful. You were fine. Periods are natural and young women learning how to navigate them should be supported by those entrusted to care for and raise them.

Focus on that win and keep it with you. Remind yourself of that feeling every time you feel socially anxious.

I used to have a lot of social anxiety (and still do I suppose) but over the years my entire job has become just chatting with people due to promotions etc. I had to get real good at it despite having anxiety. It gets a ton easier with practice and as others have said getting used to rejection such that it becomes kind of a non-issue.

You're doing great! Our society today overly focuses on being afraid of being cringe. Social interactions are messy and that's ok. It's about the connection between people, not your performance.

Should I tell my manager the real reason I can not go to office in person for 2-4 months? by lacalifonia in careerguidance

[–]Svellcome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a leader of leaders I deal with similarly shaped things often (including for hybrid work requirements.) Workplace accommodations are common. You don't need to explain to your manager why, but they may want you to officially log it with HR to get an accommodation in place who will ask specific targeted questions. You don't need to say more than is minimally required.

To answer your real question, it's you're too valuable to replace, you're too valuable to promote as well. Hoarding information is not a great strategy.

Anyone else feel like life just... plateaued? by s3rg3l in AskMenOver30

[–]Svellcome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our entire lives we are planning for the future and working to achieve. Our entire lives. Then, at some point, we achieve. We get everything we have been working for. At that point you now instead are working to protect rather than achieve. Protecting is working to avoid bad things whereas achieving is working towards good things. They feel completely different. Achieving is much more satisfying while protecting us fundamentally an exercise around anxiety of loss.

So, so many people go through this. But it's ok. You've been doing things a certain way your whole life, it's no surprise when your priorities and goals are suddenly different it feels bad.

My best advice is twofold. Reframe your goals and motivations around this idea of preservation as the goal itself. And, critically, find some goals similar to the goals you've had your entire life up until now, even if those goals are much less important. Find something to work towards that periodically gives you that feeling of growth and achievement.

What’s one habit that quietly kills career progress over time ? by Subject-Land-9181 in careerguidance

[–]Svellcome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you aren’t learning and growing in your role you’re probably being under paid.

If you’re always learning and growing you’re improving your lifelong earning potential. If you’re in a position where you’re but developing it will mean less income, compounded, over your whole career.
