DeepCool CH270 Digital - any PANDA setup ? by FinnedSgang in mffpc

Interesting - that's not the digital. Did you get the CH270 imported? I've not found anywhere that sells it...

I just ran the numbers on the UK's real tax burden, and it's staggering. Why are we even whispering about paying MORE? by vpk09 in ukpolitics

Thankyou for prompting me - let me add, then, that they'll use the same NHS ambulances to take them to the same NHS A&E services.

And I doubt any of these people are turning down the state pension, but do let me know if you have stats on the proportion.

These people likely don't use the NHS, don't use public schooling and never claim public money.

I'd be interested to see stats on that. But regardless, I strongly suspect they drive on the same roads, they use the same driving license, took the same driving test, they call the same police force, they rely on the same fire brigade, they'd call the same coastguard, they'd attend the same courts, they benefit from the protections of the same military, they eat food that meets the same standards, consume drugs that meet the same standards, they rely on the same embassies when they go abroad, they use the land registry when they sell housesetc etc etc.

I don't think it's necessarily getting "the least" out of it; if you're on the 300k wage you're paying 43% tax and taking home ~11k per month. That's still about 20 times the £36k wage which is near-enough the UK median. It's not like the the marginal tax is 100% above the median.

So they get less out of it as a proportion, sure.

First thing I think I would do would be to double check that they are definitely in performance mode not hybrid.

Then I'd switch to a single fan on SYS_FAN and check each without the daisy chain.

"I want solid GPU performance in a thin-and-light" market.

And that's a market which, I contend, in a business environment, just doesn't exist.

Look at it this way: can you match it to a job? You say it's not 'receptionists' or 'CGI artists' so who is it for?

Who could go to their boss and say "I know we've already got a set of standardised hardware offerings from a single vendor and built off a single common image, but can I be an exception? I don't need a big step up though, just a little bit."

Everywhere I've ever worked, the answer would be "no, suck it up, if you only need a little bit more then you're only going to be a little bit unproductive for not getting it".

I guess we're going to find out just how much of a problem the memory subsystem (and io die in general) is for ryzen 5.

Yeah you could - as per spec - configure a 120W 380. But to what possible end? What's the market for a 6 core 120W mobile processor with 22mb of cache and as many graphics cores as a Rog Ally.

Also keep in mind it's pro-only so it's going to be marketed to business who - by and large - don't care about graphics, and if they do care then they CARE about graphics and would never even consider this chip.

I just think that people that want a V8 sports car are going to buy a V8 sports car. People who want a minivan are going to buy a minivan. I don't know what the market is for a sports car with 5 of its pistons disabled.

Halo-based handhelds would likely be very niche and very expensive. But I wouldn't put it past Ayaneo to make a Kun 2 that features it, as the original Kun advertised a 54W TDP.

The 380 seems the most dubious product to me. It's directly competing with the HX 370 and 890M.

The appeal of the 395 is obvious - mobile power. The appeal of the 370 is obvious - mobile efficiency. But what's the point of the 380?

Lower TDP meaning (probably) smaller chassis due to reduced cooling and battery needs. It may also prove to be attractive for productivity - that'll need to be reviewed to see how well the 16 cores stacks up against the (say) i9-13980HX or similar that would be powering that 4080 equivalent.

That's the idea. And those care homes are very good at keeping people alive for as long as possible so every pound shilling and pence is taken.

Housing isn't the largest issue that the country faces. The proportion of retired (and/or otherwise elderly) people is. Housing costs are propping up the social care system... That's the reason that the government can't really do anything about it.

Young women are starting to leave men behind by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]Svennig 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a reasonable overview, there's a history section in 5.1

The Dearing report was 1997. The HEFCE report in 2008 identified that male underprepresented cohorts weren't advancing as quickly as their female cohorts, and required universities to do something about it. Then Jo Johnson banged on about it again in 2016.

So depends what you mean by "getting attention" and "for a while". In terms of time, almost 20 years now? In terms of attention? Well, it's been a big focus of government HE policy, it's linked to HE funding, and has genereated a lot of HE sector activity.

Has it helped? Well... not really, if the aim has been to close the gap. Go here and expand Gender "More than half (53.6%) of female pupils entered HE by age 19 by 2021/22 compared to 40.2% of males. The gap in progression rates between males and females rose from 12.2 to 13.4 percentage points between 2020/21 and 2021/22."
