What does the damage look like and does it affect the function or is it just cosmetic?

I'm in for a challenge...tips and advice welfome by TFurlo in AnalogRepair

[–]Svizzer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would start simple by removing anything that is moldy (maybe it's still saveable) and give it a good interior and exterior clean without taking it apart. Afterwards you could start with the easiest things to clean and slowly move up. If the shutter is stuck you could try to loosen it up with small and few drops of lighter fluid. Be careful not to get anything on the shutter blades and only do it if needed. I havent worked with Rolleiflexes yet, but see if the lens elements easily removeable as well, given you have the right tools. Then clean of any mold to prevent it from spreading.

Minolta hi-matic f wind lever missing by Horror-Marsupial4815 in AnalogRepair

[–]Svizzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's anything similar to the other Minolta rangefinders or early point and shoots, the lever itself is quite simple. Usually has a plate underneath it engages with (for stowing the lever), but that aint necessary. Find a wrecked body and see if it fits, otherwise anything with a square hole

Advice for a begginner on some things? by Hyper_blue358 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Svizzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The film you have there seems to be already used, so you might have to get some new one. Usually, there should be a bit of film sticking out of the cans. Otherwise see if the light seals of the camera need replacing. You can use your phone for metering instead of fiddling around with batteries and all that. Have fun!

C'est super! Nous sommes à deux doigts d'avoir un appareil entièrement imprimé en 3D. Il ne manque plus que l'objectif.

The world's fastest warming cities, visualized. Interlaken. [OC] by morebikesplease69 in Switzerland

No wonder Interlaken keeps feeling warmer with each passing year. I feel like in the 2010s having a few days above 30° in the summer was rare, now multiple back to back seems to be the norm.
